WOW you really zero-in on a word and I’m not sure what I said to make you so upset and to use the word “slave”. My advice was “take a variety of art classes” “What you would enjoy” “Your first class should be fun…” I enjoyed my art classes and the classes helped my photography that is the reason I suggested them. I posted what I learned from my past experience and felt it could be helpful. My posting is only a suggestion and no person should take it as a definite standard for advice.
Each of your paragraphs was critical and negativistic. I believe most people would prefer reading positive forum responses. Negative posting have a tendency to accumulate and will give this forum a bad reputation.

In addition to Photography 101 I believe you should take a variety of art classes. Art is more than famous painting found in the museum, Art is all around you it is the building you live in, the chairs you sit in, the car you drive, and the shape of your new K30. Do a little soul searching and decide what you would enjoy. Your first class should be a fun class that will keep your attention; sculpture, Jewelry, ceramics, or pottery. Enroll in classes are classified as “Foundation” classes "Beginning Drawing", "Elements and Principles of Design", "2D Design", and "Color Theory". Keep in mind what you want to develop will take more than a couple art classes. This will help you develop the ‘photographers eye’ and understand photography as an art. You will not find your talent in “Photoshop”, learn to draw then take that class.

While shooting B&W I sometimes make my outing a challenge or learning experience. I setup a tripod and shoot the same scene/subject with different lenses, f-stop, filters, and shutter speeds, take a notepad and write detailed notes. Note: time of day, clouds, film, subject etc. After I process the film I compare my notes to the final prints or on computer screen. You will learn a sense of what your equipment & film will do, which lens & filter combination will work best for the subject.
Add a touch of color to your b&w prints its called ‘Hand-coloring’. Click Wikipedia - B&W&C - Freestyle . Mat your prints and hang on the wall. Don’t stop after processing the film.

This is my travel monocord, made from an old point `n shoot camera strap about 2 foot long.
Attach to belt loop - attach to camera - pull up - the tension on the camera will steady the camera.
I'm not saying its a replacement for a tripod, beanbag or monopod, but it is light weight and doesn't take up space.
This little device helped my shaky videos. Using the string monopod, I don't get nauseous watching my videos.

If this is a vacation vs. producing stock pictures to sell I wouldn't get carried away with lots of equipment. I've
been on vacation only to spend my time looking through the view finder and never relaxing and enjoying the view.

Didn't think about Made in Japan I'll take that in consideration when I sort them out. I'm not sure how I accumulated so many extra 50's, they just appeared on the self.
I was hoping that I had something that was worth more than the average 2.0 50mm.
I have a couple of other brands, Chinon 1:1.9 and Rikenon1:2.0.
With the extra lenses maybe a 'shoot out' is in the future.
If I sell the excess I could purchase a blue-ribbon lens the f1.2 50mm

I do have a couple each 1.4 and 1.7. Great lenses and yes I have duplicate lenses collecting dust and need to make room for other lenses.

I have several ‘A’ 2.0 50mm and a few ‘M’ 2.0 50mm all are ‘clean’ and want to scale down my accumulation. I am wondering if there is some that achieved ‘cult’ status?

First ask the instructor for equipment recommendations and suggestions, the teacher is the person you need to please. If you purchase a film camera there is the possibility it will need a CLA (clean,lubrication,adjustment) and that will take 2 weeks - 2 months. Search for old established camera stores, they are the ones with good used equipment and rich with knowledge.

What you have done looks very nice and you had an excellent idea with turning the background b&w. You might try blurring the background and see what that looks like. The background is a little busy, it takes my eye off the subject.

Soligor Zoom+Macro 80-200mm 1:4.5 C/D Pentax bayonet mount. Just purchased the lens from a local camera store that’s been in business for over 40 years. Took it home and gave it a good cleaning and now it looks like new. In good light the lens produces nice photographs. I’ve read the C/D on a Soligor indicates it was computer designed and was a competitor to the Vivitar Series 1. Does anyone know that information is fact or photography lore?

Hello Marc,
While reading the quoted sentence the first thing that came to mind, the EV value may have been adjusted.
Open your manual to page 115 “Adjusting the Exposure”. Follow the instructions and reset your EV compensation value to 0.0

I'm excited about my recent purchase, Auto-Takumar 1:3.5/35. Using my small digital scale the lens weights 135.8 g. (without caps) and is smaller than my other screw mount Takumar lenses.
My question, is the lens cap and brown case original to this lens?

You have several film suggestions and I can’t add much to that conversation. I will suggest purchase a #8 yellow filter the 'standard correction filter'. I tend to use #9 or 11 and special occasion a #16 Yellow-Orange. An excellent place to purchase your filters is at established privately owned camera stores. There is a good chance they have a bunch of used or new-old stock they would sell cheap. While you are there buy some film give them your business help keep the doors open. Using filters makes a big difference, do a little research on the net. This site list more filters than most of us will ever use Kodak Technical Data .

This Gemini 35-70mm, Manual focus, K-mount, 'M' lens came in a box of camera equipment I purchased on an auction. I did a quick comparison with a Sigma. Gemini is all metal construction has that quality feel. Made in Japan but it would be nice to know the manufacturer. I will add the Gemini in my ‘M lens’ camera bag and anxious to try on film.

Yes, I believe your story will help others decide which lens to purchase for vacation. You notice many people ask; I'm going to ______ what camera and lens should I buy? My philosophy has always been keep it light weight. You could possibly eliminate your 90mm macro with a Raynox. Did you have problems with dust on the sensor and is the first picture of the Masada?
