Seem Pentax is into odd numbers, K7, K5, K3 and the K1 is taken by the new full frame. So where do they go with the K3 replacement? I suspect the KP is the replacement for the K3 as they K3ll seems to be discontinued. Likely will be shown at the CP+ in February. Anyone know the specific date of that show? ---------- Post added 01-13-2017 at 11:54 AM ----------
OK,got it. February 23rd.

Why not Lightroom CC. You get both Lightroom and Photoshop for US$10.00 a month and ongoing updates as they become available.

Look at the features added to the K3II and ask yourself how important are they to the style and subjects in your photography. If you do a lot of street/event photography you may find the 1 stop improvement in SR of value. Astro photography, the GPS will help, I am ambivalent toward the pixel shift as I shoot a lot of landscapes, but think leaves, water etc., will have some movement creating problems; still life would be a different matter.

My advice is stay away from variable ND filters. I spent a lot of money on a top of the line variable ND and find that that the higher end you get a lot of banding. I will be replacing mine with 3 separate fixed ND filters.

Moving to 4/3 or mirrowless cameras means moving to a different breed. The K3 et al need to be compared to competitors DSLR's not different breeds ...that's like comparing a pickup truck to an econobox in a vehicle.

Someone pointed out in another thread, or was it another forum, anyway the point was that Canon and Nikon and even Sony are aimed at consumers, Pentax are for enthusiasts. Many camera stores, especially large department or electronic stores cater to consumers. I look at the stores like Henry's and Vistek, in Eastern Canada and the Camera Store in the west, along with many others that are real camera stores, and they all stock Pentax. So the cognoscenti are aware, but not he plebian masses.

Just picked up a new Gitzo Mountaineer GT3542L tripod and wanted to try it out. This is the time of year we call "breakup" so not much subject matter. This Chickadee shot in my back yard perched in the bush adjacent to the bird feeder. |

Some folks have suggested this image is over saturated. However, it is actually quite an accurate reproduction of the colour of this begonia.

I use a tripod all the time. You get to learn your equipment and can frame the shot in your mind before setting things up then require a minimum of adjustment. Also, I find DOF is so critical and I use the DOF preview a lot, hard to do unless you camera is stable. Also, I shoot at the lowest ISO so shutter speeds tend to be slow. In most cases, I use MLU and a cable release. Here is an example, this one 1/60 at f8.0 @ ISO 100 with a 105mm macro lens. I also find that using a tripod forces you to be more deliberate, look into every corner and and compose your picture better. |

Something like the Fuji X100s ...I really like that concept on my Fuji. However, I use mine in the OVF mostly, but there are times when I switch to the EVF, mostly for close ups where parallax is a problem. But on an SLR you don't have parallax. I suppose the superimposing data on the viewfinder would be where the benefit of this system would show.
