B&W is my first love in magic. Post digital I shot B&W film processed and printed in my basement darkroom (not "Ligthroom"). Working in B&W contrast is the name of the game. You need black blacks and white whites.... Working with digital you have the opertunity to get these quite easily. Do the process (not the grayscale conversion) Check out Scott Kelby's books on photoshop for digital photographers. Easy read and a wealth of knoledge.
Onward,

Good job for your first architectural shots. Verticals are vertical ands the horizontals are horzontal. Work with PS makes life easier. Color and white balance are big issues, but once again post editing works. As far as composition #s 1 and 2 show good interest and meet the rules.
Keep up the practice. One good point is that the buildins do not move..... and they don't talk back.

Hi,
I am not new to the Form, however i have been pre-occupied for awhile. I am back shooting and printing and hope to submit and comment more often.
The past year I have researched (along with my daughter and granddaughter) the qualities of finer print paper and "fine art images". I have adjusted my paper selection and photo presentation to comply with the results. In the coming month or so the three of will be presenting a show in a local gallery in Buffalo, New York. It is bit of work but hopefully worth while.
Keep shooting and keep in touch,
Dave

Canal Fest is a popular outing in the Tonawanda's. It is the begining (or end) of the Erie Canel. Food, rides and a good time is expected to behad by all.

This is not only the largest total submissions, but the best overall as far a "PHOTOGRAPHY as ART". If it were possible this show could be exhibited an any gallery.
The workmanship and presentation of creative ideas is unsurpassed. Congratulation to all who have submitted this month.
Thank you all for sharing.

Crop and drop. Move the flower to the lower left and out of the center third... The subject is neat and handled well with the lighting. It needs positioning.

The building is staight. I noticed the appearance of the facade "falling" due to the shadows. (an optical illusion worthy of the capture)

Interesting subject. High contrast puts into an abstract mode. Tighter croping on the hair edge of face and crop out the monitor would give a true abstract shot.

Composition is good . Keeps all the rules. In the days gone by, when you used the dark room to process the B&W. A "High Contrast" paper would be in order to bring out the rich blacks and bright whites. This photo would be dynamic if the contrast was racked to the fullest.
If you are working in Photoshop or similar program, do a little reading as to how and what to do with B&W conversion (not greyscale).
Good job.

Having worked as a wedding photographer for a good many years (up to three sessions per weekend) I appreciate good work. Like many professions there is the share of "wanna-be's" who today have the tools (point and shoot to complex equipment) but not the skill required to produce....
I am sure that your friend enjoyed the memories you took and add them to there book or frame and hang. The "official" photofgrapher had better been pretty darn good to beat these shots.
Well done any studeo would be happy to include these in an album.

When posting or displaying a photo please don't ask, "what's wrong with it?" If the shot is worth shooting and you like it, it has some good and shows your creativness.
My work in the past with film and the cost of prints turned my focus to filling the frame and making it happen.
Today with the digital and image altering programs you have a lot more latitude. There is nothing wrong with using Photoshop or other programs to enhance the image. As a matter of fact I feel cheated if I don't employ a little something extra in my work.
Enough rambling, keep shooting and display your best....
