Shot using the composition adjustment feature of the K1 to get a bit more of the scene below while having the camera level to prevent keystone distortion.

A Warning! Before I write more about using the F*300/4.5, I need to give a warning that in the photoshoot session, I swapped out to my trusty FA*85/1.4 and found that the focus kept hunting. (more on its use later)
I later got home to verify that the lens works on my K1 in PDAF and CDAF mode, so likely V5 of the adapter firmware has affected its use. (something to be aware of before upgrading the FW)
I've dropped a post on the Monster Adapter FB page to inform them about this.
So hope they resolve this soon
Back to the F*300/4.5 A7300151_LMNR by pinholecam02, on Flickr
The bokeh of this lens is really amazing, it basically is a background melter.
Its also straightaway sharp from f4.5 and with the accurate AF of the adapter+camera, this is always easily and rapidly acheived. A7300127-1 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
I really have one more "lens" in my collection to go to try on the adapter.
Thats the AFA 1.7x adapter.
It will be interesting to see what adding AF to old lenses can do..... edit... wow! I checked that I started this thread in Jul22, its almost 2 years since I got the adapter and to say a fair word about the manufacturer, I think 2 years is really good enough a time to put away reservations about it being "made in China" , with "questionable support", reliability (fingers crossed).
To me, I'd say get one, get a Laowa, Monster, Godox and all these 3rd party items so that in the long term such makers will bother to continue making stuff for Pentax. :D

Firmware V5 with the F*300/4.5
F*300/4.5
Initially, I was a bit disappointed that the adapter did not support the F*300/4.5.
This is a lens that would benefit greatly from the AF accuracy of the adapter and would be harder to wield as a MF lens.
So with V5 of the firmware, I am glad F*300/4.5 is now supported.
Of course I did not want to rush it and write here with example shots of still life and flower pots.
So I took the chance to do a portrait session to demonstrate more real world use of this lens. A7309920-LMNR-1 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
The F*300/4.5 is an amazing lens.
Most people like to talk about how big their Canikony long lenses are, but really, the small long one is the most effective tool.... (since there is less qualms of bringing it out)
AF is fast with this lens despite it being such a long lens.
In real use, once I am in position for a pose, the focus is about there and the AF system does not really need to rack the focus too much to get into focus.
The F*300 was not a slow AF lens on the Pentax DSLRs in the first place.
So there is really no handicap in AF for this lens on the adapter. A7309791-LMNR-1 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
At 300mm, working distance for even half body shots will be far, like 7-8m in portrait orientation.
Thats where the AF accuracy at distance comes into play with the adapter on the A7iii.

I do cycle touring and if its a walk around + landscape lens, mostly outdoors, I think the FA31ltd may just do both.
Otherwise, Voightlander 20/3.5, Pentax M20/4 and a FA50/1.4 (added advantage of 49mm filters for both)
If you like wider, a 14mm, 12mm like the Samyang 14/2.8, Laowa 12/2.8 and a 35mm or 50mm. The UWA will increase the size of the kit fast with the filter holders and filters.

A waste of time and money at this point.
A used Sony ZV-1 or RX100xx is cheap, not big in any way and better in all respects.
Even a used Q1, Q7, etc is better bet in terms of quality of product and proper system.
Some handphones like the Xiaomi 14 also have a 1" sensor and 3 focal lengths (if inclined towards shooting this way); with all the AI and auto processing benefits.

With the FA77ltd A7309063 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
This lens has always been a joy to use.
A lens bordering on a 50mm and a 85mm in usage and versatility in such a compact size. A7308849 by pinholecam02, on Flickr A7309002 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
On the adapter, then lens works flawlessly.
AF is good and rather fast and accuracy is there.
I'd say that the lens sweet spot is usually f2.5-f2.8 where it has this big jump in sharpness to be like that of a 50mm stopped down to the same level, yet providing good shallow DOF for isolation. A7308912 by pinholecam02, on Flickr
The portability and utility of the FA77ltd with it on A7iii (with AF) is certainly one of my favorites for travel photography. A7309042 by pinholecam02, on Flickr A7309087 by pinholecam02, on Flickr

Did a test shot of the new setup.
New diffuser and new smaller Godox TT350 that can sit lower and nearer the lens/subject.
Woke up too late to do any serious shots in the late morning, but managed to stop a housefly.

Not much of a catch this week.
The amount of fogging done here certainly decimates insect diversity.
I've got the light modifier done to what I am happy enough with, so its really down to the process of finding time to take more photos

Some shots with the Q7 from my NZ Aps to Ocean cycle trail tour. 20180408-IMGP0836 by jenkwang, on Flickr A window with a view
Pentax Q7+06 zoom (70-200mm equivalent)
The Q series has been a versatile cycle tour camera.
I see folks using the phone, or small compacts, but the Q7 is just a much bigger step out to them.
Wide lenses, fun fisheye (of as a UWA), long lens all in a small package which is very important for a cycle tourist.
I also did not have any long lens that a 135mm for my DSLR travel kit, so the 70-200mm equivalent on the Q7 complimented well.
Any longer lens always have questionable usage levels for a lot of weight in the context of travel photography.
In fact, my 135mm was a 77mm prime and a 1.7x teleconverter to save on space/weight. :)

These shots put many trying to do this genre with more advanced DSLRs to shame. ---------- Post added 11-25-2016 at 07:32 PM ----------
OT..
Great info on the Jetstream. Thx
Unfortunately, the Moulton rides exactly like a Rolls Royce. :(
I prefer functional to flashy (like Pentax vs Leica) and I don't think its the bike for me.
The Jetstream seems to be a modern interpretation of the Moulton (+ more).
Ok. Back to the Q and its usefulness as a bike tour camera. 20161109-IMGP5093-1-1 by jenkwang, on Flickr
