Well, I'm new to Pentax ownership and new to this kind of photography, and certainly new to posting "threads", not to mention a little nervous about displaying my amateur photographic endeavours. Regardless, here is what I consider my best shot to date:

Pentax 540 FGZ vs. Metz 58 AF-1

Thanks Ben. Given that the Metz is actually a little less than the Pentax in Canada and that, according to some of the online research I've found and the excellent flash comparison guide to which you directed me, there are some quality concerns with the Pentax flash, I guess I'll be going with the Metz 58. It's a lot of money, but as they say "buy cheap, buy often".

Pentax 540 FGZ vs. Metz 58 AF-1

Hello, I'm from Canada as well and a new K-7 owner looking for a flash and, like you, considering both the Pentax 540 and Metz 58. The many "issues" I've read about the Pentax flash are making me lean towards the Metz. So far, the only place I've been able to find the Metz is at Vistek (go to vistek.ca). They sell both the Metz 48 ($299 free shipping) and the Metz 58 ($549 free shipping). This is a big difference in price. I called the store to discuss this with the sales person and his responses led me to believe he truly did not know why the 58 was so much more than the 48. If anyone here knows if the 58 is truly worth the $250 premium over the 48 I'd love to hear as I'm hoping to make a decision in the next few weeks.

Hello and welcome (although this is my first day also, having just posted my introduction). I'll be visiting Australia in April, and although I'll only be in the Sydney / Manly area for one week before going to Fiji for a couple weeks if you've got any recommendations on things to do/see/photograph in that area I'd love to know.

Hello Pentax forum users. I am new to this forum and new to Pentax. I had been a Police Forensic Identification Crime Scene Specialist in Ottawa for 10 years and as such photography (film) was a big part of my job. Since being promoted and transferred in 2002 I had pretty much ceased all photographic activity with just a Pentax Optio point and shoot to fill the void. Well, with trips to Curacao, Australia and Fiji along with a 7 week assignment to the Vancouver Olympics all in the next 6 months I thought there was no better time than now to re-acquaint myself with photography. So, I bought myself a Pentax K-7 with the 18-55 mm WR lens and so far I love it, but have ordered volumes 1, 2 and 3 of Scott Kelby's digital photography how-to guides and the Magic Lantern Guides: Pentax K-7 edition to help me. I haven't received them yet but am eager to do so as I find I have forgotten a lot of the principals of photography (although I'm hoping it'll all come back to me soon). Next purchases are going to be a flash unit and a fast 50mm lens so if any one has any advice on those purchases I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Ian.
