Welcome. I rarely post at all myself, but was recently reminded I need to read posts more often.

Autofocus Probem/Depleted Battery Error (K5)

I have the problem in manual focus. I sent it back once and they sent it back "repaired" but it did it again within minutes. I sent it back again and they had it about 1 month and said they were waiting on parts from Japan. When it came back, it did work and has worked, but occasionally does it again. If I let it sit a day or two, it suddenly starts working again. I keep three batteries and trade them out and sometimes that works, but often on a fully charged battery, I'll still get "Battery depleted". Mine didn't work the last two days, but suddenly this morning, after changing lenses and batteries for the umpteenth time, it works again.

Another K5 lockup thread

My K-5 is at repair for the second time for similar reasons. Sometimes it locks up with a blank screen and other times, it reads "battery depleted" yet shows a full or almost full battery in the top view. It may work the next time I turn it on, or it may not. With my K20D, when this happens, I remove and replace the battery and it works, but it doesn't fix the problem with the K-5. The first time I sent my K-5 to repair, it came back and I clicked three times and it happened again. After a couple days, it worked again... same battery and I clicked hundreds of shots throughout the day before it did it again. I sent it for repair again and called after a couple weeks and they told me they would have it back to me ASAP. I called again after over another week and they say they are waiting for a response from Pentax Japan, because they do not know how to fix it. They still have it. Replacing the circuit board didn't work. It's very frustrating. While I love my Pentax cameras when they're working, I doubt that I will ever purchase another Pentax again, due to the frustration level and losing work while my camera is in repair.

Battery/Power Problem, What To Do

My K5 did the same thing to me today. Battery shows fully charged, but the error says "Battery Depleted" and it happened during a shoot I had been planning for months. Neither fully charged battery works. Prior to this happening, I had noticed an increase in having to remove the battery and re-insert it when it locked up. My camera no longer works at all. Very frustrating.

Except on the internet, I've never ran into another Pentax photographer. In the beginning, I was quite amateur-ish with my photography and local photographers in a couple clubs treated me like that. Now I'm getting some respect and attention from the same locals and they say things like, "If you can do that with a Pentax, imagine what you could do with a Nikon or Canon." LOL! It doesn't bother me. I've been published, been in several shows, won awards, and now have been accepted by a jury for a show. The only Canon I'd like to have is a Mark IV and until my photography pays for that and the lenses that go with it, I'll only have my Pentax cameras. Since I work a full-time regular job, I haven't yet gone for the paid jobs I've been offered, but I expect to change that this year... my new K5 is on its way!

Thank you. Then the lens must be defective? I've tried again, with the same results... turns part way, but doesn't lock into place.

Did your Sigma 150-500mm attach and lock into place like other lenses? Mine attaches but doesn't go far enough to latch securely. I'm about to return it, but thought I'd try to ask for help before I do.
