I'm new to the idea of astrophotography, but I've always wanted to try. Now that I've taken the plunge and gotten a DSLR (kx) I'd like to get into it a little.
What methods or software (I'm probably going to try this photoacute, sounds cool) do you use to stack images and subtract dark frames? Can this be done easy enough with the standard fare of photo programs like GIMP or photoshop?

When I called the Pentax web store, they said the black single lens kit would be in stock on the 19th. I'm hoping they have the 2 kit black with 55-300 on that day too.

I read the review on ephotozine, it does sound very promising indeed. I think they went into a little too much detail about the cross processing modes, I just don't think it's a very important feature. Sure it's nice to be able to apply neat digital filters right in the camera, but I just don't see it being a ground breaking feature or anything of high use in normal shooting scenarios.
I am pretty excited about the exmor sensor if that is indeed what the k-x has. The high ISO shots are pretty impressive for a camera at that price point, although I do agree that the NR looks a little high. I'm sure they'll have 3 settings for it like most do I'd think. I haven't had the time to see much about how the image quality is for the Sony DSLR with the exmor, so I don't know how good the sensor is for normal lighting really, other than this review of course.
On another note, I called the Pentax web store a couple days ago and the guy on the phone said they'd have it in stock (at least the single lens kit in black, that's all i asked, but i'd think the 2 lens kits would be too) on the 19th in the US.
