I got a call from UPS for confirming the amount of the items and was told a check will be mailed in 10 days. So this time, I'm lucky:lol::D. The process is easy and quick:
1. I emailed UPS to ask how to deal with it
2. UPS asked me to submit a damaged report
3.UPS investigated the package from the receiver in 3 days and tell me the items fell out from the package during shipping. UPS discarded the package and asked me to submit paperworks.
4. After inspected the paperworks in 5 days, UPS called me for confirming the details and will issue a check to me in 10 days.
I was a little scared at a glance at the replies of Ratmagiclady:(. But I learn something in the Seventies such as the Aqua Velva after I read carefully:p. The sentences were abstruse to me until I looked up some words in a dictionary. ;)

Hi, JeffJS,
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.
I faxed all paperwork to UPS on 10-14-2010. UPS has already discarded the package and admitted the items fell out from the package during shipping. The situation is similar to your last experience above (1999, Fedex). Hopefully they will pay it to me.
The buyer has opened case on 10-12-2010 and the deadline for me to refund is 10-19-2010. I told all to him but he insisted to be refunded today. I plan to refund today. Thanks.

I got email from UPS today and it said:
"Please note that the claim check is being processed and a check will be issued and mailed within five business days after UPS received the paperwork."
Does it mean I will get the check soon? My concern is whether there is any possibility that UPS will refuse to pay. I have to refund to the buyer today, otherwise, the case will be escalated to ebay and I will lose transaction fee.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I did not log in for several days.
I insured the package and reported to UPS. UPS told me today that the items were fell out from the package and are missing after they had an investigation by picking up the package from the receiver. UPS told me that if they are unable to find the items in 5 days, they will pay for them to me. I'm waiting for the final result.

Thanks.
I packaged the box and attached the shipping label by myself then dropped in a UPS store. I printed the label online after I paid the shipping fees. The package size and weight were provided by me but printed on the UPS label. So I don't know whether filing a claim would help.

I sold FA 35/f2 on ebay. It was delivered by UPS on yesterday morning but the buyer called me tonight and told me that the package was empty:confused:. His freind received and opened the package and then told him there was no lens. I don't know why his freind did that:mad:. What can I do under this situation? How can I protect myself? Thanks.

I just bought one DA 50-135mm for $649.99 and still waiting for the invoice so I can pay for it by credit card. However, I just found one negative comment from F8&Bthere when I read the lens review of 50-135mm. I'm worrying about the quality of this new/demo lens. Is there anyone else bought new/demo like this from the same store? How about the product?
The following is the comment from F8&Bthere:
“I got a great deal on this lens through the Wolf/Ritz camera surplus via eBay, so I can't complain too much. But it may be that I got a slightly less than perfect copy because this thing flares really badly. Without any filter, and with the hood on, I get all kinds of flare with any strong light source in the background. I don't mean pointed right at the sun or anything, I'm talking about even indirect sunight through a window behind the subject. I have many other lenses and this one is by far the most flare prone. Yet googling around I can't find hardly any mention of flare being a problem with this lens.
Other than that, it focuses slow for a motorized lens, and tends to hunt quite a bit in less than ideal light. At least for a high end lens like this.
But on the positive side I'm still giving it a 9 because it is sharp, renders colours quite nicely, has wonderful bokeh for a zoom, and I don't feel my flare problem should bring down the overall score for this lens here.”

I just found on B&H that the prices of Pentax lenses were increased greatly. FA31 from $960 to $1299. FA77 from $780 to $1049. 50-135 from $819 to $1129. :(:mad:What happened? Should I buy one before the price increased in all markets? I want to buy 50-135 which is new demo and only charge $649:p

Hello from NYC.
I'm a postdoctoral fellow in Mount Sinai Medical Center. I found this forum and learn much from it when I was looking for my first DSLR for my newborn baby. I got K200D with 18-55 DAL II on June this year and FA35/f2 on September. I‘m enjoying taking photos for my cute son and my wife.:p But I have to spend much time on my research work and not enough practice.:(
