Shooting manual lenses on Pentax DSLRs F--

i'm not sure if i'm reading this wrong, but i'm going to have a go at it anyway.

i just recently picked up a k-7. i have a whole slew of pentax lenses acquired over my years of shooting and needed to figure out how to override the frustrating flashing F--

usually, before shooting with these lenses i hit the digital preview button (one of the things i <3 about digital photography!) to assess composition, exposure, focus etc.. then i will take the shot once i'm happy enough with the shot. i do end up taking some shots stepped up and stepped down just to ensure that post-prod is a breeze (as i'm still playing around (happily) with my camera)

the digital preview button is on the camera's on/off switch - it's that weird aperture-blade-like image beside the ON part of the switch. i figured out the usefulness of this feature back on my istDS.

i don't think there are any moral obligations that lay on the photographer's shoulders to let someone know that there was a shot taken of them. if that person is in the public view then a photographer has the right to take the shot. once the shot is taken, the shot is considered property of the photographer. no one can ask you to delete the photo, nor can they go ahead and delete it themselves.

as far as i see it, if you're out in public then you're going to be seen through a lens one way or another - be it security camera, snapshot, or well composed shot. personally, i'm much more comfortable being in the latter.

Another Pentax Faithful in Southern Ontario

It's about damn time that I joined this site. I have been a Pentax faithful follower since I first started photograghy. At the age of 8, I was handed my first SLR camera, a K1000.

I grew up feeding my appetite for a well composed shot throughout my childhood and teenage years, the K1000s taking me the majority of the way. I was a darkroom assistant in my local highschool who ran rogue photography lessons as the teacher assigned to photography who couldn't discern the correlation of apertures and depth of field.

My teenage years marked the early days of digital media being available to the general public. I was working as a lab rat at a photo supply store at the time. I dipped and davelled in to digital photography, but film has always had a warm spot in my heart.

I picked up an istDS when they first came out and used the camera for all it was worth, but eventually migrated back to 35 and 120mm. ever since I caught wind that Pentax was working on the K-7, I've wanted one. Well, now I have one and am jumping on to the bandwagon of dSLR once again.

I am using a series of zoom and prime lenses, none of which are specifically designed for dSLRs. I tend to use the manual function when using the K-7 because it's familiar territory for me. I am not versed in much of the 'software' on board the camera but hope to figure the ins and outs as i go along.

Anyway, in short. Hello. You'll be reading from me again.
