Thanks Reynold! What you are seeing is the sauna. The cabin with eight beds isn't visible in this photo. Here are some more photo's: Bojobæskihytta

Thanks Peter! Had a really great time with these guy's and other hikers passing trough. Just when I left I even got to help the Red Cross in a small way to rescue a guy from Switzerland on bicycle that got stuck on a hiking trail. Two Red Cross guy's on ATV's were navigating on their cellphones and I helped them out with the hiking map I alway's carry. In return they gave me a lift when I encountered them later on the day with the Swiss guy that had followed the instructions on his Garmin on his way to the North Cape. That was a mistake...

:lol::lol: That is a very funny observation! But yes, the way it sits in the landscape more or less invited me to capture it this way. Thanks!

I was also surprised to find a sauna here!

Thanks! No, the fish came from a lake about four kilometers to the east of the cabin I believe.

Photo's from my hiking trip in 2022. This day the weather was good but due to lots of rain beforehand the water level in the rivers en streams was rather high. And with low pressure around I decided to go no further at one of the few hiking cabins. There I met these two young guy's from Oslo intent on catching big trout. They also brought some scotch with them!:) Although I was invited to join them for some fishing in a nearby lake I opted to read a book about fly fishing and conserve my energy. They returned with one big trout and proceeded to fillet the fish on the wooden veranda surrounding a new sauna that had been build in the wintertime. I took some photo's, ate some of their fish and later on sampled some whisky. Life was good!

Cheers,

Remco

My parents introduced me as a kid to Norway. On one our holidays we encountered a Canadian on a bicycle and a year later he visited us in the Netherlands. He basically made the same observation you do! If you look at Ulf his cap you might see a maple leaf on it. I think he bought it in Canada when he was attatched to the Norwegian Olympic team during the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary.

Snow and freezing temperatures have become far less common over here.

The last photo's of my visit to Northern Norway this year with a almost ten day long hike in and near National Park Stabbursdalen as one of the highlights of the trip. After that I did some fishing. First for sea trout and that resulted in catching a protected species of fish; the 'sjørøya'. A stunning fish to see this kind of char comes up in the rivers from the sea to spawn. No photo because I returned it as soon as possible. After that I spend some time fishing with a really good friend. We stayed in a cabin on the banks of a lake near Kautokeino. We aimed for trout but the beginning of september is not the best time for that. So we got pike and perch instead.

Cheers,

Remco

4. Ulf Thomassen is the person that helped me out lots of times on my wilderness trips. He is 87 years old now and has been a wilderness guide, a teacher, a member of parliament and much, much more.
And he is a good friend. In the photo we have a coffee break.

Thanks Angky! We loved the little canals where I grew up. You could jump over them. Or in them if you weren't carefull.;) And early and late winter they were the first and last places to enjoy the ice. I don't think anybody is fishing these small streams with bigger rivers and lakes nearby. But early autumn the trout go up them to spawn. And yes, nature can be destroyed. But with some help, good regulations and an effort to enforce those rules we can do something about it. Trips in the mountains alway's leave an impression. It never is a forgettable experience.

Tony, it is my pleasure! I bought my Samyang before the DFA21mm was out and I am still very happy with it.

Peter, I am very glad to have been of some service to you. When you have been in the great outdoors as much as you did and I try to do I do notice that I can travel to that happy place in my mind without leaving the comforts of my home. The rain I can hear outside at this moment can easily transport me to moments where the rain was hitting my tent with me comfortabele in a sleeping bag for instance. I do think dat having those experiences in wilderness areas made me more modest about my place in the world and more balanced in my approach of life with al the beautiful and crappy parts of it. I hope you and your wife get to experience this area in any way possible! And even when you stay at home if you are lucky, you may hear a sound of smell something that transports you to a time and a place when you were able to enjoy the outdoors.

Photo's taken on my way back to civilization on day eight of my ten day hiking and fishing trip in and near National Park Stabbursdalen in Northern Norway. I knew the weather was turning. That and the impending threat of my coffee running out made me retreat out of the wilderness. So this mostly was a wet and rainy day.

Cheers,

Remco

1. Up from the main valley even small streams like these can have trout in them.

2. Some relatively small streams carve out small canyons on their way to the main river.

3. I had trouble finding the marked trail until I came near to a marshy valley I had to cross.

Thanks Mike! Lots of photos are taken with a heavy backpack on my back. That does have its drawbacks as you can imagine. This was late August so it isn't that surprising to see fall colors appear. Back home in the Netherlands it was really hot and it looks like that trend will continue. In future the Nordic countries might want to capitalize on their cooler climate to lure tourists spend their summer holidays there.

Thanks Julie! I had a down sleeping bag mummy stile that I used as a blanket. It is rated for use until minus 28 degrees celsius... Overkill perhaps. I originally planned to walk the same way back. But I changed my mind and used public transport (a bus) and a taxi to get back to my car.

Part four of my 10 day hike and fishing trip in Northern Norway reaching the Stabburselva valley and river. Probably one episode more after this one. Because the first spot on the river wasn't that easy accessible I opted to move about two kilometers downstream and needed some alleviation to get there. And there were fishing spots I hadn't fished yet in my three earlier visits to this area. At one spot in fast part of the river I got a lot of trout but no trophy fish. This was late August with not much insects around and no rising fish to be seen. The first autumn colors were visible. After meeting a reindeer herder the second day there where some guy's on quads driving on the other side of the river. Probably also herders as there were reindeer around. They didn't see me.

Enjoy!

1. Almost above the tree line the river is clearly visible.

3. Clear skies in the night. So the next morning I find some evidence of below zero temperatures.

4. Autumn colors start from the ground up.

5. The river is divided in different streams in this place with a nice, small waterfall.

6. This place really looks like a very good fishing spot. But nothing happend!

7. I found out I left my 10-stops ND filter in my camera bag and not in the car like I planned. So I used it here and the previous photo to slow things down.

Thanks Mike! This time the weight was more then I expected. I suspect about 20 kilogram. Because autumn was around the corner I had to much clothes with me and opted for the heavier two person tent, heavier and warmer sleeping bag and sleeping pad. The trout was released because eating the meals I brought with me makes the backpack lighter...:)

You are welcome Julie! More to come.

Thanks David! Yeah, in winter it is a totally different story. I know there are some special forces from at least from the Netherlands are doing their wintertraining in Northern Norway. I once hiked in this area late september and I already had some problems with condensation. The freezing nights I was prepared for. But the moisture can really be a problem.

Thanks! I try do this once every year.

Another installment of my ten day's off grid hiking and fishing trip above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. This time I leave the high ground for the Stabbursdalen valley to do some fly fishing for wild, brown trout.

Enjoy!

1. The last big lake I encounter is Bohkosjávri. You can see the footpath crossing a stream and then going up hill again. Somewhere along the way I had to go down and into a birch tree forest. By that time it started raining somewhat.

2. The mountain range on the other side of the river. I stitched two photo's for this small panorama.

3. This is a place where I stayed two nights. Fly rod on the right, a solar pannel in front of the tent and my hiking boots in the sun drying out.

Attachment 616318

4. The river is not a small stream. Much further down you there is salmon and sea-trout. But they don't reach up to this place.

Attachment 616319

5. A 48 centimeter trout. I lost a much bigger one on almost exactly the same spot where I caught a 64 centimeter monster about six years ago.

I like the first and last one the best. The first one because the natural surroundings do help the photo. You caught the animal crossing a stream nicely. And in the last one both the animal and the surroundings are really wet. That tells a story!
