I wouldn't knowingly pay full price for a pre-owned camera any more than I would for a pre-owned automobile!

The replacement came with 1.01, same as the defective one I sent them. After conducting the blank wall test, I upgraded to 1.02. I also noticed that a front autofocus issue that was apparent on the original, with the DA70 under tungsten light at least, was absent from the replacement.

I was instructed by Randy in Golden to remove battery, memory card, strap, and lens of course, for shipping. I left the hot shoe cover, the protective rubber eletronics cover for a battery grip and a lens mount cover....received in return a K5 kit identical to what I had purchased new from B&H.

Got mine back in three weeks and one day from the date it was received in Chandler. I never corresponded with Pentax repair during that time. Brand new K5 kit (battery, charger, cords etc). delivered by UPS.

The whole episode seemed rather cavalier to me but I suspect that's the nature of the show. I just wonder whether any of the participants ever took, or even thought of taking, the oath and marched a few miles in a pair of combat boots.[/I]

I suspect they'd have been more secure remaining in their own element, like cruising San Francisco bath houses rather than Alabama back roads.

I've had a similar, if not identical, problem. Pretty much all functions , including the shutter, would freeze up. Resetting the in camera battery would get it working again.
User error in my case: I was able to duplicate the glitch by depressing the exposure compensation button on the vertical grip when I tripped the shutter. It's just the way I grip the camera. The ball of my thumb falls over the grip's exposure compesation button. Tighten my grip a little and....oh no, not again!

After viewing both videos, I've come to the conclusion that neither side has a monopoly on bigotry and stupidity.

I recently purchased and use a Manfrotto 055XPROB which, I believe, has the same type of transformer center column. I like to get a bug's eye view for a lot of my macro shots and the horizontal arm helps me get there. I can also turn the tripod head toward the ground and mount my collared Sigma 300mm f4, 1:3 lifesize lens to the head and twist the body to a right-side-up position. There may be a chiropractor in my future plans though.

Greetings Charlie,
I'll bet those Hills are alive with Lady Bird's wildflowers this time of year. Must be a sight.

I find it hard to believe that people will buy a $1,300 camera at Walmart, at least in the stores. If I am looking at a camera that expensive, Walmart is the last place I would look.
Tom
I wonder if some of the folks who are to uppity to be seen shopping at Walmart wouldn't, in the anonymity of the internet, turn over their credit card number to Broadway Photo for one hell of a smart bargain!

Welcome Ray,
I was a US Navy journalist trained on the speed graphic many, many years ago. I was stationed on aircraft carriers and when I'd request a camera (that big awkward one) for an assignment, I'd get it with a photographer's mate attached....an act of mercy.

Whatever the cuisine, I hope it didn't cause as many bellyaches as speculation on the K10D replacement is inflicting on the naysayers!

Long time lurker, finally joining what appears to be a friendly crowd.
My main photographic interests lie in documenting, hopefully in an artistic fashion, local jewels of natural areas dispersed amongst the seemingly endless expanses of corn and bean fields. I doubt that I'll contribute as much as I gain from this forum but my intensions are positive.
Have a Great Day
