Minus 31 C, eh? Proof that the K3iii is indeed well-winterized. Your image of pine needles is remarkable: Looks like a b&w picture with a full-color sky ghosted in.

Re comparisons to wet printing, do not overlook the effect of the enlarger's lens. There's a significant difference in resolution between a $20 Spiratone and a Componar or Nikkor, which presents an additional variable to consider when making straight-up comparisons between wet and digital prints.

Just received the print copy today. Well well worth the price: Top quality reproduction, quality coated paper, sharp and smooth halftones. My thanks to Stephen for editing and shepherding this project, and also (of course) to the many contributors for their remarkable work.

The best line in that upbeat report is the positive effect of a "workshop approach" to camera design and manufacture. There is the proof that serving niche markets well can be profitable even during a mild recession.

My situation is similar ... but I suggest you and I confirm BigMackCam's comments. Pentax has become the marque of folks who are happily in stasis, disinterested in the latest whizbangs and quite content with the top quality optics and sensors of years past. Has Ricoh achieved this wittingly or accidentally? Who knows.
If one's gear suits one's photographic needs, what difference do design age and length of features list make? IMO, none.

What is Bokeh and how do I get some of it?

Easiest way to get attractive bokeh that I know of: Bag your high-dollar modern glass and invest some small money in vintage triplet lenses. There are some fine 50mm and plentiful 135mm examples out there. Most are preset or fully manual aperture designs. Most also have 10- to 14-blade diaphragms, which render out-of-focus point light sources as smooth-edged circles. The swirly effect is a bonus in several of these vintage lenses - and it can be modulated by stopping down from wide open to f8 or thereabouts.

Correction: Set the largest f-stop. Wide open = more out of focus background and hence more opportunity for bokeh. The quality of that bokeh is a function of the lens design you're shooting with. Please see my reply to "Photogem", below.
