You are not alone. I am a big fan of 5D classic. I think canon went a little aggressive with color processing in Mk II to follow Nikon. 5D is a great camera even today.

Original 5D is a really good camera, even today. I disagree with some one above who posted that k5 is superior in every way except shallower DOF.
5D viewfinder is much bigger, low light image quality is cleaner (even if it goes upto 3200 only, you can push it higher), center point focus accuracy is much better, the color rendition is very unique and natural (i find the colors better than 5D2). 5D is still a great camera.

I have the Zeiss Ikon ZI rangefinder, another cheaper alternative to Leica M, but double the price of Bessa. I would say that for 588, in excellent condition, it is a good deal. This is a review and comparison of all the three - Leica, Bessa and Zeiss Ikon. Leica M7 vs. Voigtlander Bessa vs Zeiss Ikon, an Opinionated Review - photo.net
I love good rangefinders, so I would buy it.

I don't want to get into an argument here but I just want to let the OP know that those were not my observations about 5D. The AF on central point is much faster and much more accurate than k-5. High ISO is also cleaner than k-5. DxO Mark says 5D is half step ahead of K-5 at high ISO and in practice, the results look much better to me.
Old - yes, Bigger - yes, less DR - I would say yes based on DxO stats. But in practice, the overall rendering of 5D is so much better that I hardly noticed the low DR.
If you are looking for best bang for buck in FF under 1000, 5D is the way to go. If you have about 1600-1700 to spend, D700 is the way to go.

Abhi

seconded. Canon 5Dc (the later production model) is a really good choice for FF if you are on budget. I would even go out on a limb and claim that it is a better deal than any APS-C camera available today...

seconded. Grip is not at all necessary for balance. D700 is very comfortable to hold without the grip.

ha! I don't think this is going to happen unless they are really getting into a price war with the 'rumored' Sony A99. This will kill their own D7000. Nikon doesn't need to get any more FF customers on a lower margin. They can hardly meet the mad rush for the D800.
