Well I can tell you that I fired off a series of "animated" emails to them in addition to community pressure on the voice page. The first one I got a canned response of "when enough people use it…blah blah blah." A few days later when the voice page got up to the 30's the K-3 suddenly showed up in Camera Finder for Ricoh with ~200 users a day and close to 1 million images. I fired off another one that pointed out the camera they said didnt have users was the #2 most used Ricoh and would be the #2 Pentax if it were placed correctly. The K-3 stats were very mud in line with the Canon EOS 1200 which had been on Camera Finder since release. I also pointed out I had just gotten a picture in Explore with a camera - Q7 - they said didnt exist. I got a very snarky response from the CSR about "I'm really sorry to hear that your Pentax camera is being mistreated and under appreciated…." OK, game on. I shot back that being condescending to your customers might be part of why flickr has gone from being the #1 photo site to behind deviantArt and that flickr was the one making a big deal about camera statistics when in reality their statistics were inaccurate at best, falsely rigged at worst. A day later I got a much nicer reply from a different CSR who said "we are working on it." Two days after that Boom, K-3 is on the Pentax page.

I think the real work is on the Yahoo Voice page. Every email I have gotten form them has referenced it. Hopefully seeing our petition go from 1080 to top 50 in a day will get their attention.

One down, many to go. The K-3 is FINALLY in camera finder and FINALLY listed as a Pentax. Now we need to get the rest of the missing Pentax cameras added. please vote here:

https://yahoo.uservoice.com/forums/211185-us-flickr/suggestions/6994656-list...tax-cameras-in

It took a week of solid action to get the K-3 added. Another week of making our voice heard and we can get these added too!

The K-3 was added to the Pentax page today!! It is now the 103rd Pentax camera listed in Camera Finder.

https://www.flickr.com/cameras/pentax/

We still have a long fight to get the Q, WG and 645 series added as well as the K-S1 but this is a big step. Having the top of the line Pentax body absent from flickr was not a good thing.

Thanks to everyone who supported this effort!

We are NOT that rare but crap like what flickr is pulling right now doesnt help. Full post here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/173-general-photography/286321-pentax-cam...up-flickr.html

Long story short, flickr hasn't added a Pentax camera to camera finder in over 18 months. Go figure that in a recent flickr blog post Pentax cameras disappeared off their chart into "other" land.

Don't know how many of you are on flickr but there is a serious issue with Pentax visibility in flickr camera finder

https://www.flickr.com/cameras/pentax/

No Pentax camera has been added to camera finder in the last 18 months. The K-50 was the last new camera added. Additionally many even older Pentax cameras are not in Camera Finder. No a single Q series camera is there. Not a single WG series is there. The 645 series is missing.

Just this week the K-3 was added but not to Pentax, to Ricoh where it is bizarrely listed a the Pentax K-3.

Two days ago a picture I took made Explore. According to flickr the camera I used, the Pentax Q7, doesnt exist.

I wrote flickr about an image being in Explore but not in Camera finder. here is part of their response:

I'm really sorry to hear that your Pentax camera is being mistreated and under appreciated Rob, but I am going to do everything I can to fix it.
I did find the brand of camera, but not the model listed inside https://www.flickr.com/cameras.

Nice condescending attitude.

We made enough noise through the Yahoo voice system to move the K-3 petition from #59 to #31 in two days. We need to move it even higher and get ALL the missing Pentax cameras listed. We need to get the K-3 on the Pentax page where it belongs.

Please join me in writing to flickr and by voting on the voice petition:

From the help page:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr

Click on Contact Us then "start here" and "photo basics" and "my issues does not appear here"

Alternately you can post to Facebook.

If enough of us bug them, they will fix this.

Thanks for your time and good shooting.

Actually I would expect PF prices to be slightly HIGHER than ebay prices.

1 - You can be pretty sure that you are getting actual Pentax gear and not someone putting every lens mount possible in the listing. I can't tell you how many times I have seen listings for Canon, Nikon Oly and Sony lenses show up in a custom search for Pentax lenses. I have written to sellers of Tamron and Sigma lenses and asked "are you sure that is Pentax mount" only to find out that no, it is not.

2 - Im willing to bet that the average PF seller has taken a bit more care with their gear than the average ebay seller. Not to many "I found this bag of stuff in my attic" type listings here. And if it is someone active on PF its unlikely they will describe its condition falsely.

3 - Every transaction is inherently fair. Just because YOU would not pay that price for the item doesnt mean someone else thinks its an unfair price. As long as the seller is disclosing every relevant fact, there is no possible way for the price to be unfair. Just because something is sold cheaper somewhere else does not make one price unfair. And given the EXTENSIVE pricing information available to ALL of us at no cost at all, it is really not possible for someone ask an unfair price unless the buyer is under some kind of external influence.

Dust Donut!

Over on kickstarter there is a great project called the Dust Donut

"Dust Donut™ Add a weather seal to the mount of any DSLR Lens"

Right now it is only for Canon lenses. This thing would be perfect for Pentax!

I just became a $3 backer and sent the founder an email asking about Pentax support. I got a response 2 minutes later.

Think about this - for less than the cost of a coffee you can become a backer.

FULL DISCLOSURE - other than my $3 I have no connection to this project.

I look at the Sigma Lens chart and I see a WHOLE lot of lenses for Pentax

Sigma Lens Chart

Is every one available in ever mount? No. But there is no lack of lenses. The 500mm 4.5 just got discontinued. Im sure there are some in stock somewhere.

Well Heavy D that is exactly the kind of crap FUD that I was talking about.

Have you heard this from someone at Tamron?

No.

EDIT - Sorry, too harsh

How about this, you write to Tamron and ask them, then come back and tell us what they said.

I had been reading all kinds of statements about Tamron stopping production of Pentax lenses. Granted most were trolls but it got me worried because my two favorite lenses are Tamron (17-50 2.8 and 18-200). So i wrote Tamron and they responded quite nicely the next day that Tamron was and planned to continue to produce Pentax lenses but that their emphasis for new introductions right now was VC lenses. Makes sense to me and I am happy to pay significantly less for a lens because Pentax put SR in body.

So trolls, take your FUD and shove it!!!

DP Review comparison of K5, D7000 & 60D shots

The treatment of Pentax on DPR reminds me of subtle racism. I wrote a long analysis/rant about the subtle ways that DPR "discriminates against Pentax.

"As for AF speed, how does that speed work on a lens that doesnt AF - like the one DPR uses for its IQ tests for the D5000 - "Nikon D5000: Nikkor 50 mm F1.4G lens, Aperture Priority, Manual WB, Default Parameters. Standard Picture Controls, Active D-Lighting Off, NR Normal, JPEG Large / Fine"? Funny, DPR doesnt tell you that the lens they did the IQ test with HAD to be manually focused and then they had to switch to another lens to do the AF test. Talk about shady testing. Kinda like the testing on VR on Nikon lenses. For some strange reason, Nikon cameras with Nikon lenses are incredibly unstable with VR off. But put a Sigma or Tamron on the same camera and it recovers."

"Review of Nikon 18-200VR

It's no great surprise to see Nikon's VR system performing well here. Whilst it doesn't quite seem to deliver the 4 stops which Nikon claim in our hands, it comes pretty close, especially at 200mm. The key difference here is not so much the yield of critically sharp shots at slow shutter speeds, as the hugely increased chances of getting usable shots with only mild blur, which would be completely impossible in the absence of stabilisation.

Review of K200D VR

With anti-shake switched on the improvement is immediately visible although you still only get 100% sharp shots at 1/100th sec. On the plus side even at shutter speeds as slow as 1/6th sec you get 50% usable shots. The system gives you an advantage of approximately 2 stops but tends to work more efficiently at very slow shutter speeds. This is a reasonable result but not outstanding. It is also not even close to the the 4 stops that Pentax claims its anti-shake is capable of.

Now go look at the actual results from the test. According to their tests, at 50mm and 1/6th of a sec, the Nikon had a 10% chance of a "Sharp" picture. The K200 had a 30% chance. Across the board the K200 did better but in the "Conclusions" section the reviewer states "Efficient image stabilization (not as good as Pentax claims though)" while the Nikon gets "Very effective vibration reduction system, at least 3 stops benefit.""

Look at the cameras comparisons in reviews. if it is a Nikon, the next camera is a Canon. If it is a Canon, the next camera is a Nikon. If its a Pentax, the next camera is an Olympus or Sony. There might not even be a Nikon on the chart to compare. The subtle message - Nikon and Canon are in a "different category."

To their credit, DPR did redo the shots. But how come it took community outrage? It will be interesting how the K-5 review comes out on DPR since it will likely be one of the last. The reviews so far have been glowing. Do they dare speak the trurth and agree?

Will a YN-560 Flash Blow Up My K-x?

@Dave - I have 4 Promaster "film" flashes with Pentax modules. They work great both on and off camera. I got them all New In Box (New old stock - I think they were part of Ritz stock) for less than $80 (3 x 6500, 1 x 5500). Check around, you might be able to get a TTL for less than the YN-560.

I use the AFG-360 with my K200 and I assure you it is not meant just for film. It is an EXCELLENT strobe and works in manual, TTL, and P-TTL both on and off camera. Pentax may not have the "system" that Nikon and Canon have but you can do off camera flash much easier and cheeper.

Not exactly what I was hoping for in a K200D replacement but 99% there. For me, the ISO performance is reason enough to upgrade. It fixes the show stopper (for me) of the kx - AF select point.

What it is missing (for me) is a battery grip and weather seals. I can live with that as a trade for the high ISO. My K200 will be a fine second/spare/backup body.

Already preordered on Amazon.

I am not a FF fan but I think a better measure of popularity is actual use

Top Digital Cameras Ranked by Frequency of Use

Granted Flickr is not the be all end all but the HUGE number of users gives you the ability to reasonably extrapolate for the broader population. Pentax ends up with 4 cameras in the top 100 - K10, K20, K200 and amazingly, the *ist DL (actually above the K200!). The bad news is that the highest ranking is the K10 and not current bodies made the list :(

if the list were DSLR only, Pentax bodies would rank well in the bottom and at or below FF models.
I still love my K200D :)

Avid amateur photographer. My first camera was K1000 - which I still own. I had a bunch of digital point and shoot cameras before taking the plunge with a K200D. I suffer from serious lens buying addiction since discovering eBay :)

I shoot mostly landscapes and flowers but I am starting on portraits.
