I thought of the 28-80 and leaving the 35-70 at home. I was using taking some photos with the 35-70 when I wrote the post.
I do not have the 18-55, I'm sure a good choice but no time to acquire one.

Going on Vacation to Sydney this week. I'm planning on packing my trusty Pentax K100D Super with the following lenses; 28-80 3.5-5.6 af kit lens from my old film camera, a Pentax A 35-70 3.5-4.5 macro and my new Tamron AF 90 2.8 macro. I'll use high capacity AA Lithium batteries. I'll leave at home a A 50mm 1.4, A 28mm 2.8, AF 70-320 kit lens.
Any thoughts on my kit?

I'm an old retired guy and have to watch my money. Buy a great lens and go on the trip...buy a K5 and lens and stay home.

Yes, I've had these lenses on a Pentax 35mm SLR and am trying to improve my camera bag as my skills improve. I purchased a used ( really almost brand new) K100D Super and am having a lot of fun experimenting with it and some "A" primes I picked up and a Tamron 90mm macro. I'll upgrade the body when I feel confidant that its the right move. For now higher quality zooms have my interest.

I have two kit lenses that I've had since the late '90s. one is a SMC FA 28-80 and the other SMC FA 80-320. They work OK and I'll most likely keep them but I want to purchase some high quality pieces. What do you think might work for me. I don't mind spending up but I won't waste money.

I see that the Pentax is about 2 bills more than the Tamron so what the heck I have decided to splurge!

It appears that on the Tamron in order to switch from AF to MF one needs to switch over both on the camera and the lens. Am I understanding this correctly?

Great advice, I'm thinking that I can use the lens for more than macro so the af is important. I must confess that I didn't consider using mf for macro work but it makes perfect sense.
My budget is $500. or less so it looks like the Tamron may work unless I can find a mint Pentax unit. I'll also check out the Sigmas.
Being new to this, it gets confusing very fast.
Thanks

What would be a good to excellent AF macro to keep for a number of years as I change bodies. I now have a K100D Super.

I have a "A" 35-70 macro 3.5-4.5 zoom that is in need of some repair. Mainly cleaning and a trim ring went missing. Where can I send it for a reasonable cost.

I've picked up three A lenses to complement the two kit AF lenses I carried over from my film SLR. The question is; what are the orange colored buttons on the A lenses? They seem to not have any purpose and are not on my AF lenses.
