Very interesting. I'll be curious to see what this does...if anything...to the video features in Nikon cameras.

This is the thing I was thinking about, too. Used gear has allowed me to stay with Pentax and these days I'm about the only marketing they have in my city.

I sure seem to collect photography gear, but it's not intentional. :o

You're right, 35mmflmfan...it looks like the guard to me, too. It's not an un-common problem. I have an older Vivitar Series 1 90-180mm zoom that had this same issue. Some people cut down the guard, but I opted to simply remove it. It was pretty easy as I remember. I'm no handyman so if I can do it, ANYBODY can do it.

I've got a neoprene wrap that I used on my P&S camera when I want to give it a little extra protection, but I also have a couple of small bags similar to the one Christian Rock linked to. I've picked them up at my local Goodwill for cheap.

I don't know who did this, but it's a really smart move. That's a ton of exposure for the price, I would think. Back in the film days, 3M was the third leading manufacturer of film but they did virtually no advertising. What they did was sell their film to be the house brand film at places like Target and let them advertise the film for them in their weekly sales flyers and other places.

I really like the OP's set-up that he made for himself. I'd love to have something similar. For now, I keep much of my extra lenses and gear in an old dresser. I put clean towels in the bottom of the drawers for a little bit of padding. It's not a lot of protection, but as long as I'm not too rough opening and closing the drawers, it works.

If someone always has to have the latest and greatest, Pentax is probably not the brand for them. You've stuck with Pentax for 15 years and were focused enough to wait and save up for a K3iii so I don't see a reason to change brands now. More than likely a K3iii will serve you well for as long as you care to keep using it.

This would be my vote, too. I think you're going to need something wider than what your GRIIIx provides.

I voted, but in truth there's about 5 on the list that I'd love to have. I've been working on building a collection of the DA Limited's, but I sure wouldn't mind having an FA or two.

While I have no direct experiences with either of these lenses, the M series lenses are generally pretty good so I'm not sure you'd gain much by adding the other zoom. I think you might be better served by using the money for a zoom in a different range.

The good news is that there's not really a wrong answer here. I think you'd like either camera, but since you're wanting to use your FF manual glass as it was intended, maybe the K1 is the better route to go. It's a bit bigger than the KP (and your K5), but to me it's not a huge deal. I will say that since I got my KP, I do tend to reach for it more often than my K1, but that also varies depending on what I'm shooting.

I hadn't seen this commercial with the Pentax, but there's been a spot airing in our market where a woman is holding a Contax G2. I always think, "Cool camera! Who picked that as a prop for this commercial?"

Since you're used to shooting with your GRIII's, I think the biggest adjustment in moving to a K1 will be the huge size difference. It's not going to be as handy as your Ricohs. That's not a knock against the K1, really. It's just a different experience.

One of my best friends, who is not all that into photography as a hobby, had one of those old Mavica cameras that he used for what seemed like FOREVER! Technology was changing so fast back then that other cameras blew right past the Mavica in terms of megapixels, but my friend liked his camera so he stuck with it. And that's really the main thing I guess...use what you've got.

I used to belong to the Pentax Owners' Club. I probably have some of the Pentax Life magazines around somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Seems like I got some Pentax stickers from them at one time because I used to have them on some of my stuff. They would also offer discounts on random gear. I suspect maybe it was things they were closing out. I bought some filters for my Pentax 6X7 and a case for my ME that was pretty cool. It was a soft case, but it had a little flap over the right side that you could open so you could advance the film and get to the shutter release. The front was open so you could leave the camera in the case and still change lenses.

This is a dumb question, but the lens didn't accidentally get into close-focus mode, did it?

I marked "lens" as my next probable purchase, but because I'm kind of at the same point as Sandy, it's going to be more of a consolidation type thing. Selling some lenses to finance something new.

Although I didn't buy it from a Japanese dealer, my K1 must have come from there because the manual that came with it is in Japanese. Sometimes being a person who doesn't read instructions can be helpful. Other than that, I've had zero issues with using the camera.

I have a couple of those that were favorites of mine in the film days. A few years back, I also picked up an A version at an estate sale for cheap, but hadn't used it much until the other day when I put it on my KP and took it for a walk. I REALLY like that combination! I tend to see things slightly more telephoto than wide angle so with the crop factor of the KP, it suits my eye well.

Those are cool! I'd love to have a set of those. Back when I was first starting in photography, Ansel had an exhibition and lecture here in Oklahoma City. I was touring the exhibition while waiting on the lecture and was amazed at the prints. I tell folks that it made me feel like no matter what I do, no matter how long I live or how hard I try, I will never, ever be this good. I was moving from image to image next to an older gentleman who finally leaned over and said, "Makes you feel like going home and throwing out everything you've ever shot, doesn't it?" I laughed and agreed. Those prints were pretty danged amazing.

I wouldn't mind having some high quality F4 options. It's not really a need for me, but I've certainly been leaning that way. I have a good 80-200 f2.8 zoom by a third party maker, but it's so big and heavy that I only carry it on special occasions. I'd love to replace it with the 60-250mm f4 or the 70-200 f4. I know it's not quite what you have in mind, but lately I've been shooting with an F 24-50mm f4 zoom that I really, really like. I picked it up for $25 in a bargain bin and although it's not the same as the 24-70mm f2.8, for me it's a great trade-off in terms of price and size while still giving great image quality and being roughly in the same zoom range.
