I checked the site out (doesn't DXO is also an image software much like LR?). Although I can see that there are differences in each sensor, but they are not huge enough. With how easy and amazing PP software now a day, I assume that would even the sensor dump (remember I'm talking about a controlled environment shooting here).
I remember a video of some photographer using enough lighting and PP to make pictures from an iPhone looking pretty amazing. Certainly that could be done with something more advance (Km or Kx). If such good result could be done in a control environment, I wonder why studio shooters chase after the most expensive camera instead of having something inexpensive (relatively) like a K-x sitting in the studio at all time. But then again, I'm not a pro photographer so my point of view about it might be naive.

Hi all,
Hopefully some die-hard RAW shooters could enlighten me. Since RAW images must be processed to look however you like it to be, does the body really affects the outcome (K10d, K-x, K-7, ... Pentax, Cannon, Nikon, ...)? If yes, then how much? Let's assume that the image is taken with the same glass, same ISO (200), same condition, on tripod, and we are using the same RAW converter.

I'm not too sure about that price advantage anymore. I chose the K-x because it was decent price and I could find old, cheap lenses and still could get SR. However, as soon as I got the K-x and it got popular, it became almost impossible to find those old, cheap lenses anymore unless I'm willing to pay 3-4 times what it used to be. As for newer lenses, I don't see much price difference, if any. I don't think it's fair to compare a $400 Pentax lens with no on lens SR and focus engine vs a $450 Canikon lens with both SR and focus engine on the lens. Please don't get me wrong, I love my camera and the ability to have SR on all lenses, but I just haven't seen the price advantage since the K-x came out.

Well, if Pentax announce the K-r's great new innovation is that it can accept all K mount lenses, will you still be giddying like a little girl? To some people who have lived long enough to know the history of things, they notice how certain features are just nothing more than rewording of things that either already there or a reintroduction of something that was there. Like it or not, expecting everyone here to have the same opinion and POV as you do makes no sense. You can get your ego stroke somewhere else, I suppose.

Why can't it be $200?? Seriously, I don't think the K-x (and probably the K-r) is any worse than the t2i. t2i might be better with video and the pixel count, but for everything else the K-x hold up to and even bypass the t2i. Personally, I think the pixel count means nothing at their levels. Hopefully the price for the K-r drop a bit nearing the holiday

How about the assisted AF light and dedicated focus point indicators? Will these justify the upgrade cost? For me, no. However, the AF assist is what I really really wishing for.

I am excited about the AF assist and visible focus indicators. I wish I have those on my K-x. I would love to trade in the K-x, but I don't want to put up an extra few hundreds for such upgrade. If I do upgrade, I would love to get the white one this time.

I think you got it covered with the wide angle lens. Your 10-20 will definitely cover that for some instances, but I bet your 17-70 will cover most instances. I'm not sure why you don't need the telephoto. I assume you will need it to get pictures of certain landscape while passing by some harbors/islands or perhaps dolphins. However, I personally wouldn't carry too many lens with me. I would rather spend more time enjoying the trip than coming back with 100K+ photos without ever feeling like I was there. :P

You need to clean the sensor. There's an option on your menu to clean sensor which flip your mirror up so you can access your sensor for cleaning. Make sure you have a full charge of battery. I just did the wet cleaning on my sensor just now -- took 30 seconds.

Wow, that's impressive. I have had dusts twice on my sensor since I got the camera (about a year also). Wet clean them all each time.
For the OP, I highly doubt you damaged the sensor (actually what you cleaned is a protective barrier in front of your sensor). Pentax probably just replaced the whole thing for convenient purpose, or probably for the sub-contracted repairing company to make more money off Pentax (Pentax don't fix your camera, they sub-contracted to some repair facility). Either way, congrats on having a clean and awesome camera. :)

I agree with John on a certain level. It seems that the video capability of the camera is an after thought for you. You could shell out more money for a better camera with a better video capability, but I think ultimately you will probably be disappointed again. The strength of DSLR is in its still photo feature. The strength of camcorder is in it's video feature. I don't know about you, but when I shoot videos for family gatherings and the similars, I tend to let the camcorder runs for a bit. I can't really do that with my K-x since it eats up memory quickly and gets quite hot too. I assume this might be true for other video DSLRs. If you are okay with shooting a short clip of video then move on to the next, then go for it. There's no point in spending so much already and be unhappy. But and then, if you end up being unhappy again, then note what John stated.

@Ian G: Is the spot very noticeable? Is it the only one? I have wet cleaned my sensor before and I can tell you that it's a breeze. It's a bit nerve bending at first, but it feels better after a few times.
However, what I've found out is that most of the times I don't even need to clean the sensor. I have a couple of spots on my sensor and I just ignore them because, honestly, I never see them in my pictures unless I'm shooting the sky or a blank wall with small aperture. If your spot is very apparent and shows up often enough to bother you, then go ahead and wet clean it. If not, then save the money and the anxiety. My 2cents

Hi all,
I usually don't use the built-in flash (or any flash) but just for kick I was trying to use the built-in flash with the 50mm f2 m (all manual). The resulting image is all white. Apparently the flash overwhelm everything. If I cover up the flash a bit, the picture would come out. I suppose that this happens for everyone using the old lenses. I'm just curious in how come the built-in flash was not synchronized with the camera setting since everything was already set (iso, shutter, aperture...)? Also, do you know of a way to use the flash with these old lenses?

I have always seen people hold their DSLR (or any camera) with their right hand, press the viewfinder against the right eye, and close the left eye to take photos. When I got my K-x, I automatically do the same as if it's natural. Last week, I was playing with the Debug mode and taking many pictures when I realized that it's pretty tiring closing my left eye. I switched eye: press the viewfinder to my left eye while keep the right eye open. This actually feel much more natural, less tiring, and (more importantly) allows me to take the photos just fine.
So, do you use your right eye with the left close or use your left eye? Which feel better for you? Maybe I'm the only one who prefer using the left eye.

I would have taken everything off/out of it and let it sits for at least a week before do anything. Since you tried to turn it on the next day, it's possible that it's paperweight now. It does not hurt to try again in a week or so. Sorry to hear about it though. Hope it didn't ruin the vacation.

Others have mentioned good info about how to clean it so I won't repeat their words. However, I used to wet clean my sensor to death and the dusts always come back. It's a losing battle. I bet that you wouldn't see those dusts if you shoot day to day photos without a clear uniform background like the sky or white wall. Personally, I wouldn't even worry about it.
Note: when mapping dust on the sensor, you need to have the camera on a table or tripod and pointing it at a white wall.
