What Pentax Values Most in Future Cameras

It speaks to me, I value a company that actually has values over scrambling tech chasers. It's a plummeting industry, but won't be forever so doubling down on your core values and presenting the strength of your brand in times like these is sensible.

For those that wish they had a pentax option for whatever the scramblers are releasing...maybe there isn't one. Because it doesn't line up with what they wish to offer. A tiny camera with gigantic corner to corner sharp ultra fast lenses? Unbalanced, with poor battery life. The K1 is such a nice camera to use, and holds small or big glass at your choosing.

Seriously, Pentax and Fuji are the way. You can't be all things in such a diverse world. Be good at what you do instead. And buy more cameras and lenses! Nothing wrong with multiple systems.

Yeah the Aus pricing is very tempting, especially when seeing what similar things for the k mount are going for. Seems a no brainer for someone that needs more reach (me!) then the 28-105 gives on the K1. I'd love a 2.8 but its a lot of money, and a lot of lens.

I think Asahimans info comes from internally but quite early on and is subject to change like anything is.

And yes classic cars are expensive but you gotta have something to take photo's of, right?

Poll: K-1 upgrade circuit board or not?

Depends on the cost down under but lets be honest a 77 1.8 would upgrade my image quality a lot more then the MKII upgrades. If its on the cheap side then I could get a 43mm instead... I haven't even got near the edges of this beast in the couple months I've had it, merely 1000 images in. For those who have racked up a whole bunch of use I'm sure they'd appreciate it a lot more.

I'm just super happy they offer the service!

Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR camera detailed specifications leaked

We don't know how many units the k1 was targeting. Updates like this often occur during remanufacture. If we have to order more boards anyway why not add...etc. We don't know if the original k1's processing was a budget/time decision, and we basically have no idea of any of the goings on internally. Chips reaching EOL are external problems too. The realities of day to day are much more boring then the swaths of ideas for world domination through busness strategy :)

The K1 is a classic, MKII or not.

Everyone wants to take everything always to have at the ready. Packing too much unused stuff is something I'm guilty of. But don't forget to leave room for serendipity.

So pretty much the only stuff left to upgrade significantly gets targeted, excellent. Hopefully the apsc world also gets the AF upgrades.

I dont know if I want to apply the fk equivalent to mk 2 though :D

OK now I'm hype about what it could be! I do agree though that if theres to be a k3-3 it'd be quite expensive. 2K+ aud. And I paid less then that for the k1, so a MK11 with a 42mp sensor is enough to hold its price up closer to 3k. That all being said I'm more excited to see what an apsc update can do with the mighty 150-450 that is in some amazing hands here then the new k1. I think the k1 itself is a classic, and I'm sure a mkII will just be a refreshening and keep the numbers on the compareo screens similar to the competition. Which are both well over 4k down here.

Man what an exciting time to be a Pentaxian :) :) :)

I just think that whatever the reason, the extra money and feature set won't be enough to convince the current dialogue of the K1's value that its a worthy 'upgrade'. I think it would still be selling very well. I don't believe they will suddenly have major AF improvements, I don't think they'll suddenly have great video codecs. Is the pro market holding up nikon or sony? Or is it the bigger sellers. Sony's rx100 is still being made. The profit margin from the 6000 line I would have to assume is sizable. Their high end stuff still seems to be experimental, and good for them. Canon gets a free pass through market share. They don't have the best of anything, besides lenses. But they charge for it. When anyone else does it people question the value of it...

The camera world is in a weird place. And I'm not sure woo'ing pros' is as profitable as it once was.

Needs more fresh ff lenses before more bodies, lets not get into Sony territory here. To be honest I'm not left wanting with my K1. Given what the 40+ mp sensors offer (very little if any upgrade) and especially the prices of the cameras containing them (almost double) I'm not sure any of that would fit the Pentax mindset. IQ upgrades are essential. Work would be continuing of course, but AF/FPS AND MP increases just seems like too much of a jump, which would cost an arm and a leg. And the people enjoying the landscape monster with its astrotracing pixel shift won't give a rats.

A big thank you to all in this thread. As a newcomer to the K1 I can't wait to get an adaptor to use my favourite glass from my favourite camera. The 105 2.4 and 55/4 look like they still shine down in 35mm land!

How is the QC on the 28-105? Tolerances and percussive transfer could be the culprit. I have a K1 and would like a weather sealed companion to get wet and dirty with, but this makes me a little hesitant. What I'm seeing in this thread is its highly unlikely the issue exists on all units and that both the camera AND lens have to be working together to create the blur. All cameras will have their harshest clunks, and I assume its well engineered by now to its minimum. Especially from Pentax, pioneering the whole returning mirror shutter combo and all. Being mechanical and percussive I'm sure there is a wide range of severity to the shutter shock, from body to body. Equally, the susceptibility of each lens to exhibit optical gremlins because of it. If the items weren't in need of extensively technical disassembly and reassembly I'd love to take a few apart and test the shutters and lenses! I'm sure Pentax will on this issue if it continues to cause problems.

I think it looks lovely. At first glance 'hello k30 replacement'. I'm just not going to be happy with the price. The AUD + camera price drama means it will be very hard to justify. Regardless how much I like its looks...

To be a X0 series it should have a 24mp sensor. The 4mp extra in the 20 isnt worth the trade off for the sweet 16. It'll be a smaller, rugged, similarly specced k3II but without some of the extras like astrotracer or gps imo.

I've been banging on about how pixel shift should able to push the measured results for a while now, good to see it finally be tested properly. It's not 4x the same data, its 4x the data period, the results are better then the noise/DR improvements alone imo.
