I missed the photos, for whatever reason they’re not visible now. However, welcome back and congratulations to you both on your new baby !!! Gear is gear, your work is great no matter what the brand is.

Racer, your menagerie rivals mine (I'm tech support for the whole family, so I claim it all )...
3 desktops, 1 Win and 2 iMacs
3 laptops of varying vintage
at least 5 iPads of varying vintages
3 iPods (I think)
2 active iPhones and one Samsung
2 network printers, a couple of TV sets, a couple of Rokus, not sure what else...
Crazy what we accumulate innit?

Harts Pass was one of my dad's favorite places when I was a kid in the '60s. The folks always tried to drive that road at night - you can see oncoming headlights so you have time to plan where to edge past the other fella. Downhill direction got priority as a common courtesy thing.
Last time I went up there was in 1999 - my brother and I took my dad's ashes up to his place. Parked at the top, and set out up the ridge on the Pacific Crest Trail, taking turns packing the ashes and a river stone my uncle had engraved. Mind, the rock was probably about 70-75 pounds, so our motivation to keep going fell rapidly as we went up that dang ridge. We finally said heck with it, found a suitable place for the memorial rock, and scattered Dad's ashes to the winds. And OF COURSE, the wind swirled around right at the wrong moment and gave us both a faceful of Pops... I'm quite certain he got a great laugh out of that!
Thanks for the photos and video, Racer - brings fond memories back.

Well, the water is natural here. The hole it collected in was man-made, though. An old quarry in the woods behind the USGS offices in Augusta, Maine (44.30751688412032, -69.81310429737992 to be precise), shot on my trusty old Canon A4 back in 2007.
Alrighty folks - I know someone else out there has more shots, let's go!! |

I made my Mum a cribbage board from some driftwood cedar a few years back. She loves it, non-traditional shape and everything.

My wife bought a Sony a600 recently. Been learning how to use it... Here is a shot from our latest adventure, a trip down the California coast to look at lighthouses. This is the old lens from the Point Vicente Lighthouse. I think this was the inspiration for our old buddy C3-PO!!! |

Oh... Oops. Guess I should've checked that. I sorta assumed a small mirrorless camera with little bitty lenses was going to be a 4/3... :o:o:o:o

Well, that would have been serious motivation! :D:lol:
But would it be better than the prospect of getting back to a place where bacon was freely available? Hmmm

One of my uncles was in AOG back in the 70s/80s. He was a sheet metal worker, and went off to fix several planes that had "issues". The one I recall best was a trip to Greece (Athens I believe) where the plane slid off the runway. I got a really cool leather cowboy hat out of it... :)
Mmmm Bacon!

Thanks, UncleVanya, on behalf of my better half! The coast redwoods were huge and impressive trees. They certainly make you feel humbled with their size and longevity.
We came home by way of Yosemite National Park and one of our stops was their grove of giant sequoias. Those guys are even *more* humbling!
@Barondla, your shot deserved a win, shows Nature “green in tooth and claw” :D:p:D:D

My phone (the rock), and my wife’s new Sony (the tree) - a couple from the road trip we’re on. Seeing a bunch of California lighthouses and family. And some Nature stuff, of course!

Racer’s house gets snowed on pretty regularly, since he is up in the foothills of the Cascades and gets plenty of orographically cooled precipitation. My house is almost at the edge of Puget Sound, some 90 miles S of Rancho De Racer. We get snow too, but much less frequently. As far as temps, getting into the 20s (F) is pretty common, teens or lower is rare. A lot depends on the direction a cold front is coming from. We get an amazing variation in conditions across the region, as the weather splits and flows around our two mountain ranges and recombines . One part of Pugetropolis may get hit with heavy snow, while ten miles away it’s just a dusting. Or rain and sun, or 10 degrees temperature difference. Drives forecasters crazy until they get used to it.

Apparently “my” latest acquisition is a Sony Alpha a6100 ILC, with a 16-50 and 55-210 set of glass. My wife wanted a new camera and ordered it when looking around at Best Buy…. Now I get the opportunity to figure it out so I can be tech support on our Alaska cruise next week. Sigh…
On the other hand, it does look like a nice little rig to play with, and it certainly ought to outperform my phone camera!

The day MSH Popped her cork, I was at home in the ‘burbs north of Seattle, was actually in the shower when I heard a big booming sound. Since I was a geology student at the University of Washington and we were all keeping a very close watch on the volcano, I immediately checked in with the radio ad boob tube and saw what had happened. I basically spent the day glued to the set…. Talked to a buddy of mine who was over in Pullman at WAZZU, his tale of how the ash clouds descended over them was freaky.
