Thanks...that helps. I have the K-5 as well and the 28-70 EX DF has to be 10 years old if not 15. I don't think the lens is worth working on as I bought it for less than $175 shipped. It would have been a true gem without that issue.

Thanks for the input. I don't think that I have an issue with it not being a 'parfocul' lens. If this were the problem I'd be able to re-focus after changing the zoom length and nail the focus. The problem I'm describing is that I need to apply a +2 fine focus for 70mm in the camera body and a +6 at 28mm (or vice versa) in order to get sharp focus.

Hi All,
I just bought a lens that has an issue. It is the Sigma 28-70 EX DF. It is a dream in every aspect except I have found that at f2.8 the actual point of focus shifts from front focus to back focus as it moves through the zoom range (actually, as I adjusted the focul point in my camera it was probably a back focus to a worse back focus problem). At the minimum focul range the actual focus point appears to move about an inch or possibly two. I checked my other zoom f2.8 lens and it remains in the same point throughout the zoom range. Anyone have success making a lens like this usable? Sharp focus tough to attain with certainty. Should I send this lens back to the seller?

I have purchased two items from them and returned two items to them. They don't check that items work and it seems I have had bad luck. I am not too upset since they pay for the round trip if an item doesn't function.

One backout. Two units remain. I'm out for the weekend so I won't be able to correspond from noon today until Monday.
Just for kicks I looked up the one I have on the forum review. It has a better rating than the Pentax F (which I question owning both). There is a pic of both units together that demonstrates the size difference. Jue Ying Remote Control RC-4 reviews - Pentax Camera Accessory Review Database |

Three left. ---------- Post added 05-02-2013 at 02:51 PM ----------
The Pentax unit is under half the size of my knock off. They too take a standard battery. The non-OEM unit's buttons stick out (vs. indented on the Pentax). I found that my 'buttons were getting pushed' while in the carry bag. Every time I got it out it needed a new battery (could have been the batteries I was using were not the best). For me the AF button is a waste. I always pre-focus and then just use it as a shutter release. Of course to each his own.

This T/C seems to work ok on AF until I focus on something close and then try to re-focus out to infinity. It will just whirr and the camera flashes the MF signal in the view finder. If I put the lens and camera on manual and focus out to infinity, then switch back to AF it is good to go. Is this normal or is the T/C malfunctioning? Lenses both did the same thing: Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and Pentax DA 50-200WR.

DA 16-45 Asking Price
$245 Shipped Item Location
ID (United States) Item Description
Nearly new DA 16-45mm that I picked up on the forum. If you bought this new from a camera store you would think it was new. Simply beautiful. I bought it from a forum member who was the original owner. I just am outside in the weather too much to not to have a weather sealed lens. This lens performs better than my DA 18-55WR but it isn't weather sealed...so it stays at home. That is senseless. Someone should use it. All items in the box that came with it new (paperwork, packaging etc). $245 shipped to your door. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Tamron LD 28-200 f3.8-5.6 Asking Price
40 Item Location
Nampa, ID (United States) Item Description
Nice Tamron LD 28-200 (Model 171D). I have the DA 50-200 WR so this sits in the bag. Time to clean out the closet. Optically perfect. There are two marks just under the focus ring in the fourth picture (very exaggerated in pic...much less visible in person) . They don't affect the function but are there. Adam--I definitely thought the speed was an issue but the Tamron 70-200 f 2.8 functioned at f 13 on the K10. That is my big stumper. You may be right because I can't imagine any other reason for this but I hope someone can tell me different! The next step is calling Pentax Monday. Thanks again!

Hello everyone! I wanted to pick the collective brain. My K10 has been refusing to lock focus at the longer end (anything higher than halfway on the zoom range) of a Tamron LD 28-200, a 18-55mm Kit (version 1), and my 50-200 WR. I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and a cloth on the lens and the camera. I tried my best to blow dust from the mirror and sensor. Nothing seemed to work. All the lenses perform fine on my K20. I decided I should try my Tamron 70-200mm f 2.8 just in case. It functions perfectly on the K10 at all zoom lengths and higher aperatures--even in low light. So now I don't have any idea what is going on. Maybe my K10 is a lens snob. Hopefully someone has broken their camera of this particularly annoying pecadillo.

repaap--
I just stepped into the macro side of things and this is the only area where I don't feel that 'A' capability and AF would be a huge benefits. Mind you I have the Panagor 90mm and not a 50mm. I find that in what I've done so far it is easier to keep the aperature constant to maximize DOF adjusting shutter speed and flash for exposure. From there, I would say that focusing seems easier moving the camera back and forth rather than focusing the lens. I'm sure an AF lens would do a fine job but the amount of time hunting may be frustrating (can't say for sure since I've never tried an AF macro lens--I'm extrapolating from my AF use in other areas). Might save you some cash to consider going without these two though.

My son is much faster than my focus ability on the A-50mm. It is a real gem of a lens though. I presume that the F and FA retained the same optics (at least it looks like it). Maybe I'll just practice. I do like to shoot and so it shouldn't be a bother. Lately I've just been lazy and used the 18-55wr with a flash. Maybe that is where I should be going anyway since shooting my son is mostly snapshot stuff and not something I would print.
