Thanks for the feedback!

Firstly the lens was purchased new in 2000, and is a straight zoom lens without macro features.

The Pentax DA 18-55 Zoom looks to be a better fit, is there much difference between the Standard kit lens and the WR version in terms of build, function, and optical quality. Is the WR worth the extra money?

I am having problems trying to focus with this lens in both AF and MF on my K10d
Set to MF, Mode = M, the focus ring cannot be moved manually and seems to be either locked or jammed on the MFD lens setting, shots taken are out of focus or blurry.
Set to AF-S, Mode = Av, or Sv, or Tv the camers adjusts to appropriate ISO, f-stop, and exposure settings however the camera will not autofocus the lens, seems to be jammed or locked on the MFD lens setting, the in focus indicator is flashing, shutter release is disabled, therefore a shot cannot be taken.
Firstly, do I need to set specific options in the K10D custom settings, alternatively is the lens the culprit,or does the camera require a service to calibrate the autofocus functions.
BTW, the firmware is Version 1.30
TIA

I have the above lens together with a M42 Pentax adapter for my K10D.
This lens has a moveable slide on the lens body (MAN/AUTO) what setting should this be on to take a shot, how, when & why is this function used.
What is the correct sequence for taking shots
Camera settings & technique steps:
1. MF = On, Mode = M, Focus subject, Set F-stop, set exposure speed value, (shutter release halfcocked) shoot,
2. MF = On, Mode = Av, Focus subject, Set F-stop, exposure speed value autoset by camera, (shutter release halfcocked) shoot,
Both of these techniques appear to work OK giving similar results whether the lens diaphram clutch slide is in the MAN or AUTO position.
What other modes/techniques/settings can I use. ?
On the K10D can/do I use the AV-L or green button for setting exposure settings ?
How,when and why do i need to change the Man/Auto lens setting.,or is it safe to always set on MAN for the K10D for EV and f-stop adjustments, and taking the shot ?
TIA
