Hi All,

Thanks for all the answers, the long an short of it is that it was bracketing, I haven't been using the camera much and my partner must have accidentally set it on, it freaked me out at 6:30 am while trying to shoot sunrise on a cold day tho!

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I shot a 24 hour timelapse for a short film I worked on a while back with my K3, it wasnt compiled in the camera, instead we took thousands of raw files into final cut pro x and then exported them as a video.... worked pretty well and matched the red scarlet footage pritty nicely :-)

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.... in manual (M) mode I set shutter and f-stop and shoot a frame and the camera then randomly selects new settings after the shot was shot on the settings I had.... ok for one off shots not so great for event photography....

any suggestions ?

Cheers

I shoot a fair amount of motorbikes and birds with a K3 (mk1) and novoflex 800mm follow focus vintage lens, I pick an interesting place for motorbikes and pre focus and then pan with the action.... seems to turn out a good amount of keepers....

K-3/k-3 ii iso

I upgraded from a K10d to a K3 a week after the K3 released in Aus, the difference in higher iso 800-3200 is amazing but at full res yes the K3 can still carry alot of grain, I shoot Roller derby predominately plus some boxing and live music, and have found I still use my strobes (that I bought to shoot in cave like derby venues with a K10d) on my k3 but I am able to rip off 7+ shots in a row and get some cool sequences... for live music I push the iso and spend more time cleaning up in lightroom, but I am still def. glad I upgraded to the K3 its a beautiful camera and will keep me till the full frame shows up :-) only down side on it is the shake reduction in video really has to be turned off (its terrible) but this I can deal with....

I've used the focus limit switch on the Canon system when photographing roller derby and its is the best thing ever!! so nice to not have the lens hunt away from a 3 meter away subject to infinity especially when the subject is on skates moving at 30-40kph!

ok, my 2cents worth here would be that without 4k video I wont buy it.... my K3 has shot more video (ie over 100 hours of it) than stills in the last 3-6 months and if I'm spending the money on a FF I want it to give me the full package...

Shooting a dark concert. K-5 or K-3?

hmmmm well I shoot music and roller derby (both tend to occur in low light) on a K10d so my advice may sound a little perverse....

take both... use both.... put a 70/80-200 2.8 on one and a 28-80 on the other and swap between them this way you can get up close and personal with the lead singer and guitarist but still grab the bass guitarist and drummer plus pull in close for those shots of the singers face when they're getting all worked up and passionate...

enjoy and remember that somewhere in the world is a K10d user who wishes he had the conundrum you have! :-)

Special Event 5x Giveaway: Eye-fi 8Gb Pro X2!!

Ok, here's my take on why an eye-fi pro would be a magnificiant peice of equipment for me...

As a short film producer the world of HD video on dslr camera's has provided many many oportunitys however its brought its share of challenges too. Particularly in the form of on set data wrangling and keeping track of what footage is on what card. This would be aleviated by having a laptop on set and using an eye-fi to dump the images direct to computer from the camera, thus allowing the data wrangler to get on with conversion and sorting. This would also protect against lost or damaged memory cards on set (they're fiddly little things after all and not always treated with the care thats their due). Finnally an Eye-Fi would also allow better access for the director and DOP to review the footage between takes etc.

Cheers
