Thirty-six years ago today, Mount St. Helens erupted changing the landscape forever. Twenty years ago I worked out there as a park ranger and had the wonderful opportunity to see the mountain in it's many moods. Enjoy some old photos (from slides) of the Mount St. Helens. |

One of those photos when you forget to change the settings and later you find out that it actually looks good.

Here is the one of the ice built up on the breakwater. Pretty bright out that day so overexposed the image but it does give a sense of how much ice can built up

I am trying to attach a photo to a post and it will not come through. Only when a start a new post, not when I reply. Also is there a way to delete images from the attachment bank. Thanks

Actually it is ice built up around the breakwater. It can be pretty impressive in the dead of winter. Now it is just a hinderance when you want to walk all the way out to the lighthouse. I can't figure how to add another image or I would show one of the whole break with ice built up. The last photo is a crop in. I don't think it will sharpen up to much more. I liked it as it made the lighthouse seem on fire.

Spent a few days up the Michigan coast at Frankfort and fell in love with the lighthouse. So many different moods in just a few short days. Enjoy |

thanks for the info. I don't believe the K10 has a tungsten wb (it might though) but it does have the custom wb. Really most shows I would be shooting would be outside without too much dynamic lights. Hard part with the custom is where to start and go from there without shooting dozens of images and missing the show.

WOW! what a weekend. 12,000 people all camping together listening to traditional, folk and bluegrass music in Michigan. My first time and I will sure be heading back again next year. Next time the kids will be coming along to join the thousands of others enjoying the festivities

Recently I was at an outdoor festival and when I was trying to take photos of the evening acts all turned out yellow. Is there filters you can get or any other way to get a true light on the performers. I do not want to use a flash. I know the photos are a little blurry, but I can work on that with shutter speed, etc. I am definitly more interested in the light aspect. Any help would great. Thanks

He still waves goodbye to them and wants to know where they are. It is fun to see them in the distance every morning.

As my 2 year old son began "ooohing" out the window I saw the "invasion" of balloons into our backyard. The world championships are in the area this week and last night the descended around us. The kids and neighbors alike were amazed.

I was walking in Arches National Park with my parent when we decided to take two different trails. I came around the back side of one of the arches and looking through were my parents waving. I love the negative of the rock and them with just a little sunlight on the inside of the arch

The petroglyphs (rock carvings) are actually etched or pecked into the stone. They definitely last longer than the pictographs (paintings) which are an iron oxide ground down to a powder and mixed with a binder such as egg yolks, water or even urine. There is even a negative effect where you put the paint in your mouth, place your hand on the wall and spray the paint around your hand leaving a negative effect.

Nothing like cotton candy at the ballgame. Remember never buy your kids expensive seats when all they want to do is walk around, color, eat junkfood, anything but watch the game

I have been seeing photos in the forum stated as HDR. Might be a dumb question, but what exactly is this. I shoot with a K10 and is this something that is done postprocessing through photoshop or are these images done in the camera. Thanks

Thanks Cliff. Most anasazi were at the most 5'6" so these are probably adult size. I have seen kids and they are real small. Here is another one, this time painted

I have always marvelled at ancient handprints. These are Anasazi from southeast Utah with my wife's hand for comparison.
