I just entered the contest for the first time, no problems with the form, all looks great & is easy, ...but... I forgot to load the image :(, so I tried to edit the new thread, and added an image there. Is this the right thing to do? How can I check it?

Water over steel

The rigid, strong and seemingly unbreakable steel will eventually lose the battle of survival due to aging and rust caused by the water. (To be technically correct it is the properties of the water and its contaminants.)

question about K7's AF sensors

I have found the K7 focus options to be excellent. You can choose from centre focus or to one of 11 points, depending on your settings. You can even adjust your focus within the settings menu for all, or a single lens. To sum up, ...rest easy until you get your camera and it will all work out fine. Make another post if you have any trouble.

I am not yet into painting but the K7 seems fine for me. I had the Pentax K10D before this, so it was quite smooth getting used to the similar layout of the K7. Now I am not a PRO photographer, and my point is I found the K7 'comfortable', reliable and at a darn good price compared to what you get. - Simply good value, from a novices point of view. When it comes to landscapes, I shoot up to 6 or 8 images, maybe 2 rows of 4, then I stitch them together. Might sound out of your abilities, but no, it's dead easy with the correct software. - Also, you could use your image software to overlay a grid over your image after you take the photo's. The possibilities are simply endless. - Actually, ....I am wanting to learn how to paint with oils/acrylics, I have the paints, boards & brushes, now I gotta make that first daunting step. :o - Oh! - I am sure you know that if you take a colour photo you can convert it to BW digitally, and again, there is even special software that will 'highlight' different colour tones to make the image even more stunning. I think this is better than taking BW photos, because once you take the BW pic, it's a bit harder to turn it into colour again. :)

I'll throw and idea out there and see who would like to help

... if you can't get some help a bit closer, I might be able to help. I am in Australia, but when you think about it, it's only a flight away, and with 'tracking' on registered mail, you would be very unlucky for the parcel to get lost. I have a pro 35mm slide scanner, (3600dpi+) depends on what you want the images for. I would do a bit of correction & dust removal as well, just like to see a neat job!

Quick shift: video <--> RAW ?

I share your frustrations. I have had my K7 for several months now & do a bit of wildlife shooting & it has been a nightmare trying to combine both video & RAW (or jpg). I will be watching your post with interest, as basically I have decided to make it either an 'image day', or a 'video day', to save getting too frustrated. Ice Hockey hu! - that would be better than the Aussie bush here, I get 2 minutes of video & camera overheats, found I need a pocket full of batteries & 16gig SDHC as well, but the quality is great!.

.... all looks very interesting, some nice shots there. I gotta learn to get out of bed a bit earlier as well, he, he, might plan to do a bit more camping out bush & wake up in the scrub. Just a thought, I wonder if it's worth trying a flash to highlight the foreground a bit & keep the background the same? - keep up the good work.:)

I shoot a lot in the bush here in Aussie Land, and darn, this black K7 I use gets so hot, can't even take 3 minutes of video!!!! - I WISH I HAD A K7 IN "ALL WHITE!!" - maybe I could keep things cooler & do more shooting. - OK, this silver version may be a scrap better, but it's still not all white. - All that being said, the K7 is doing a fine job, if it gets tooo hot, I just drink beer!

I bought a set of 75mm filters on eBay, being the Massa brand, and ok, I am embarrassed to say they only cost a few bucks so once again, you get what you pay for I suppose. Thanks for the links RAWR, that was great to see the results for this lens and a whole lot more. - Hi ho, hi ho, it's of shooting I will go!! -

...... thanks RAWR I think you hit the nail on the head.

I totally forgot I had a UV filter on the lens, ...let that be a lesson to all you amateurs!! :), - and after taking a heap more shots I am sure the image is now 50% sharper. I am confident that my camera is 'still' by using tripod, remote & Mirror up, so here is a sample image to compare.and another. I think with a little tweaking & Photoshop, I should find satisfaction. The images are split, showing the use of a filter on the left. Ignore other stuff like exposure, I didn't sinc that too well. I would still like to see a nice sharp shot from someone else using a 70-200 f2.8 sigma. Comments on the images most welcome.

Hey........ a big thanks for everyone who has replied, I am working thru the info now.... Just one thing, I used a tripod, I shot with the "Mirror Up', and I used a a remote to avoid any shake. ..and yes, I wait for the 'beep', Hmmm. - I was hoping this might have been caused by the software. Maybe I need to test the lens on another Pentax, but none near here for a 100k or more.

After reading all the reviews and specs I thought I was going to get a nice lens, this APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG Macro HSM, and it was for my new K7... however, maybe I still have a lot to learn about setting up this outfit, but to me, with not a great deal of experience to call upon, I think I have a serious problem. First of all, I do not know if this is how an image should look from this lens, you can see it here, http://www.shootingnature.com/K7test.jpg , and after trying dozens of different settings, I can not seem to get a sharper picture. I have my suspicions about this lens, because my 15yr. old Sigma 75-300 f4.5 seems twice as sharp?? - I have been shooting with the default settings. Q1. Have you seen this before and could it be 'tweeked' out? 2. If not, would this be a manufacturing problem? Q3. Can anyone send me a nice sharp image showing how this should look?? - Ahhhh! - glory without pain is no glory at all!! - I will be sooo happy to resolve this problem one day!

K7 video - Can I shoot using viewfinder?

Hi there guys, - OK, I am baffled, and I can't find an answer, but I have got a feeling it will be no! - how sad. - I want to shoot video of moving things so I need to focus all the time, but with the K7 it seems there is no way to swith between the Screen & Viewfinder when in video mode?? - I hate the screen!! - I need glasses so I can adjust the diopter ok, but with video I go to look at the screen, I have to put glasses on & hold the camera away from my face to focus, by then my subject has moved again. (AF wants to ignore my 70-2-- f2.8 lens) Is this the same for all you guys? - or am I missing something. - If I could shoot using only the viewfinder I would be so happy. :p

Bloke form the Bush, Aust.

Hello World! - What a great Forum to check out things Pentax! Yeh! - I'm kinda from the bush, spend a lot of time outback in the Mallee Country, Got the River Murray about 3 kms away, and Roo's next door finding some good tucker within the Vineyards. Today is 44Deg., just a bit tooo hot, but my 'Den' is coool!

I started with a Pentax Z10, shot a lot of 35mm slides on Wildlife, Went to a Pentax K10D, and loved it so much I got the K7 a few weeks ago. I still have to learn heaps, work took me away from 'shooting' for about 5 years, now it's so good to get back into what I love, 'Shooting Nature'. You can see a few shots at Online Photo Gallery @ shootingnature.com (of course), but I need to update that as well.

Yep! - I suppose I have to admint that some of the nices blokes own a Pentax or two, particularly after seeing the great diversity here. - Regards to all, ...and you know what they say, "..If it's worth a second look, ....Shoot the darn thing!!" ..and we all know it's only with a Pentax.;)

Choosing Sigma 70-200 f2.8 CONFUSION!!

Hi Guys, - I appreciate your replys, thanks. - It's a bit hot here at the moment, like 44Deg. - I am ready to ask Pentax/Sigma to make white watercooled units to so I can go outside & shoot:)

I think this lens is great, only had it (& K7) for a week, and Kenyee, the first 4 digits are 1012. Yes, I am impressed with the lens & K7 combination, but I need to study this excelent forum a bit more to get the best from the K7.....toooo many flamin' settings!

I think my best bet will be to sell the converter, and save up for a nice 300mm lens. Anyone interested? $300AU pluss freight:)

Choosing Sigma 70-200 f2.8 CONFUSION!!

Hello all,

I just upgraded to a K7, Nice Camera! - and I intended to spoil myslf with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8/ Sigma 2x converter combo, but it has all fallen apart!! -

After some research I ordered a APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG / HSM with a Sigma APO Converter 2.0 EX DG. This was what I needed. Insted, I failed to read the fine print with a quote and got a APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM instead!!-

This lens does not suit the Sigma APO Converter 2.0 EX DG I also purchased. So now, What do I do??

I could sell my new lens & get a APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG / HSM, like I wanted in the first place, but I am not sure what that will cost. -

Next, I might be able to get a good APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX / HSM, and this should also match the converter. - My Question here is what is the difference between the APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX / HSM and the APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG / HSM??

Also, is there any word out that there will be a 2x extender available for the APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM, I presume this is the latest & greatest lens?

Sigh! - and I just want to shoot nice pics!! - Anyone got some ideas to help out here? - Thanks.
