Shadow clipping when importing K-5 raw files

I don't know if I can change the settings for the import, the format of the camera is sRGB, doesn't that mean they are imported as sRGB? - where would I change the import settings in Lightroom?

Shadow clipping when importing K-5 raw files

When I import raw files into Lightroom they appear much darker than the images on the camera preview screen, bright areas are OK, but shadows are very dark. The same happens if I use apple iphoto. If I convert the images into a jpg in the camera they look like the camera screen preview. Does anyone has the same problem? This is a pain since I have to bring up the shadows for nearly every image I import.

I attach some samples, the brighter ones are the jpgs converted in the camera the dark ones are imported into lightroom and converted into jpg there.

I recently got a Pentax-F 50/1.7. There is a pimple on the right next to the focus scale window- does anyone now why that's there? I looked at the F-lens manual (PENTAX MANUALS) but there is no mention of it.

I guess we are on a kind of consensus here- the pink hue in the blue background in your picture is exactly what was unacceptable for me. I would say we all have 'figured the lens out' it is just different levels of tolerance. For me it was two many missed pictures (or hours in photoshop fixing them) so I got an alternative - actually 2: a Tokina 80-400 and a Tamron SP 400mm.

I believe we had nearly exactly the same discussion here before a couple of years ago. I do not really understand why Lowell is getting so emotional about this topic (again).

I pretty much share Jewelltrails opinion - there is a whole rainbow of colors in the out of focus area which ruined about half of my images (and it only took me 2 longer walks to figure this out, too). But as someone said before you can sell the lens for the price you buy it- so why not give it a try?

Jewelltrails medium format alternative sounds pretty interesting, too. You could even try this with the 1.7x AF adapter.

I agree with the posters above who advice not to buy it. It is a good performer when the background behind the subject is dark but as soon as it is bright its awful. Since it is a very simple design chromatic aberration (blue and purple fringing) is very strong and the background rendering is ugly. It is quite sharp at f4 but the colors are somehow muted - which gives nice effects - but probably not in soccer. You should also consider that with an AF zoom its much easier to frame the picture, since you can find the subject wide and then zoom in.

I guess the flash did not work because it does not have the A aperture setting- it should work using the meter of the flash, though. Thats the first Kiron I see without the A function.

Giving a discount 1st and than increasing the price for the amount of the discount is just lame! I don't believe Pentax is dictating the price for retailers this closely-

Thumbs down for B&H!

By the way: amazon gives you 20% off a kata bag if you buy the K-5 there or 10% of an Rokinon 8mm for the same price K-5

Bag 3: Crumpler Cheesy Disco M laptop bag

Asking Price
$50

Item Location
Philadelphia, PA

Item Description

This bag is not sold in the US normally- I got it from Europe. I love these bags since they do not look like the usual laptop trunks. This is a nice medium size laptop bag, it easily fits a 13" macbook but also my 15" G4 powerbook plus a camera (K20d with 16-45mm f.e.) and a smaller zoom in a pouch - the perfect set-up for the city. Has a padded laptop sleeve, 3 inside pockets, a front pocket with zipper and a padded strap.

Another very nice feature is the "third leg stabilizer" a strip which runs from the middle of the strap to one corner of the bag and makes it very comfortable and steady to wear- especially on a bike.

I got this one myself and the L version at nearly the same time as gift. I never used this one.

The dimension are:

bag in in inch: 14 1/2 wide, 11 high, 6 wide at the base
laptop pocket in inch: 14 wide 10 high

bag in in cm: 40 wide, 28 high, 16 wide at the base
laptop pocket in cm: 35 wide 25 high

Item Description

Very nice and sturdy and compact crumpler bag with unusual format. I normally had 2 lenses and the camera with another lens attached in the top compartment and a 4th lens (if needed) and flash in the lower one. The large compartment on top easily fits a K20D with 16-45mm. It is also perfect for 4-6 prime lenses. Has 2 inside sleeves for filters, batteries, cards etc and one loop on each side to attach a gorillapod or monopod. Also comes with large pad for the strap (not in picture)

Another very nice feature is the "third leg stabilizer" a strip which runs from the middle of the strap to one corner of the bag and makes it very comfortable and steady to wear- especially on a bike.

Outside looks clean, the inside is a bit faded.

Item Description

This is the bag you take when you want to "bring all the equipment on the bus- you can't mess with this" bag! It can fit 2 bodies and multiple lenses; one body, 2 flashes and multiple lenses, or several lenses in the bottom, 2 flashes AND a tamron 400mm/4 with a camera attached (you can't beat that!)- or millions of other combinations.

It is perfect for wedding photography or traveling. It has 4 large side-pockets and a sleeve in the back for notes or even an ipad or macbook air (not padded, though), and 2 loops on the front bottom for a tripod.

Has leather grip and strap padding. Looks clean with a little dirt if you look very carefully at the corners.

Thanks for the info Adam- when I clicked on the banner before it linked directly to B&Hs website (I see it is fixed). That is a good deal!

For the other comments- please be aware that adorama supports pentaxformus if you buy through the links on pentaxforums (which is a good thing to do, and you get site supporter status).

Now I have to think about if I want to sell my soul and address to Mr. Rebates.... also not sure if the coupon code works without linking from pentaxforums.

On the homepage of this website it says B&H is offering the K-5 as low as $1349, when clicking on the link the price is $1399- is this just false advertising? I thought BH is more serious than that!

This sounds like a great tool for studio work. It will not be necessary to load images from the card to the computer to verify them. The screens on cameras are to small to really evaluate an image.

The description (at BH) lacks some important points, though:

Does the card support true tethering- do images show up automatically in Lightroom (or similar programs) right after they were taken- or do they still have to be loaded manually?

The description mentions it supports geo-tagging- how does this work does it have its own GPS?

How long does it take to transfer a average raw file to the computer.
