Hey,
Photos Added. As for the feedback, I haven't sold anything previously so I'm not sure how to address that.
As far as returns goes, I looked at a hand full of other listings and that is what they said. I don't plan on having to deal with returns, but if for some reason someone isn't satisfied, I would work it out with them and have modified the listing accordingly. Ultimately I don't need the stuff anymore, so I would rather sell it to someone who will use versus having it sit in a drawer forever.
Thanks

Hey All,
I posted this in the K-5 forum a few days ago, but I think this may be where I should have... Henry's in Canada has the k-5 with the 18-135wr on sale for $979 cdn..... I am not sure how long the sale lasts, but they say they have 88 available for on-line purchase... PENTAX K-5 D-SLR W/18-135 WR (BLACK) 14776
I did some looking around and I can seem to find this pair for under $1200, so I believe this is a really good deal.

Wading through a huge backlog of pictures, I came across a series of shots I did when I first received the Tamron 90mm back in March to test it out. Maybe not the most compelling pictures, but as a lens test, I am pleased with them.

I generally don't have the most picturesque view out my back door, but the sunrise the last few mornings caught my attention.
The two pictures with the moon are with my Tamron 28-75 and the others are with a Takumar 200/5.6.

Thanks, SOldbear.
I had a feeling I was missing something simple....
I was at the point where I felt like I had to choose to abandon learning to use manual off-camera flash (at least for now) or I had to invest even more money in radio triggers but I noticed you mentioned this issue can be mitigated by using a manual aperture lens (non-A) in another threads but I have not had a chance to try it out, but that would be perfect as I am a casual hobbyist at best and already invested way more money than I ever imagined I would when I wandered into a camera store a couple years ago....

Hi,
I have been trying to practice/learn with off camera flash using the onboard flash as a trigger. In PTTL mode, it works flawlessly (save for the typical PTTL issues), but when I try to use the wireless manual settings, I am having some weird issues. I have my flash (530 super) set to manual wireless (C0/SL) and my k-x set to wireless flash and the flash fires, but the problem is sync, from 1/1 to 1/16 the flash fires fine, but it happens pre/post exposure so it is not registered in the photo, however 1/32 and 1/64 work just great.
I have tried other channels, I have tried setting the camera to master and controller, but the only way the flash fires is if it is set to C0 and the camera is set to master and I cannot resolve the 1/1 to 1/16 power problem.... I have tried every possible shutter speed from 1" through 1/180" with no luck.
So basically, camera set to Master, 1" to 1/180" shutter speed and Flash set to Manual, C0/SL 1/16 or 1/32 works, changing any one of these elements doesnt...
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something simple here?

Out of curiosity, can anyone recommend a decent CPL for this beast that won't rival the cost of the lens itself as the treads are 67mm...

Sorry, I haven't been keeping the shots as they have been mostly for testing purposes.... a couple dozen shots in the AM, then I checked them on the computer for a sense for the lens to make sure that I did not get a problematic copy.... then delete and move on...
Like I said, I am/was somewhat spooked by the numerous instances of problems talked about here so I was just doing some random focus testing shots here and there...
On thing I did notice is the infinity focus seems to correspond with the tick mark adjacent to the infinity symbol where as the lens its self will allow you to turn the focus ring slightly beyond the tick mark, more in line with the symbol.... some what of an annoyance, but I don't think it is an indication of faulty copy...
I am at work now, but I will try to post a few shots later/tomorrow if I get a chance.

I have also noticed the infinity focus is a hair before the limit... based on a morning worth of random shots in my backyard....
The stiffness of the zoom ring is not a great concern of mine, and I understand the preference for too tight to to loose, I was just surprised the first couple times turning it.... I think I am just paranoid about the QC of this particular lens having spent months considering it reading all the comments about problems so I may be looking for problems.....

Hi all, I just picked up a copy of the 28-75, largely inspired by Edgar and this thread, and the first thing I notice (aside from its weight) was the zoom ring is quite stiff.... not ceased or anything, but in comparison to the 18-55/50-200 kit lenses, there is a quite noticeable difference, is this a common trait of this lens?

Thanks JT..
I may be off base on my assessment re: Pentax mount problems, but as I have spent substantially more time reviewing Pentax resources than general Tamron reviews (for any lens mount), it is not unlikely that due to the higher volume of Pentax information I have sifted through, I have noted a higher number of problems with Pentax mounts, which may not be indicative of the actual rate of issues among all camera brands.
And as you mentioned, in the grand scheme, its not a real issue provided the dealer is reputable but if I am to buy from an online dealer, and end up with a problematic copy, it can be a hassle with RMAs and shipping ($$ & time)... So if it was realistic possibility of encountering a bad copy (which I understand is a risk with anything, and impossible to quantify), I would be more apt to put the breaks on and reconsider my options locally, which comes at a considerable premium....
Having noticed that the problems seemed to have occurred/been noted during one general span of time a few years ago, I was more asking if there was a general sense of improvement in the more recent past....

So if the problem is caused by misalignment, does that mean there was a simply a bad time/batch of lenses produced, or is it simply luck of the draw... if most of the problems were noted 2008/2009, would tamron have rectified the problem by now? or is the rate of problematic copies so low that it is a matter of the vocal minority getting more attention in the reviews???
I have been skimming the internet for reviews, which seem to be resoundingly good for the 28-75, and it seems that the problems are heavily weighted towards the Pentax mount.... Am I wrong in that?

Good morning,
I am considering the Tamron 28-75 2.8, especially given some of the recent examples from it. Having read through all the review, it seems, at least for a time, it was somewhat plagued by BF/FF issues, requiring calibration. These reviews seem to go back a handful of years, and the more recent ones don't seem to reflect any issues. Does anyone know if BF/FF is still a problem with this lens or have the QC issues seemed to have been resolved?
Thanks

I had been looking for a flash unit for sometime until I recently picked up a 530 super as the discounted/discontinued price was to good to pass on. I had read several reviews that highlighted the pitiful user manual that came with it, but it wasn't until I had it in hand and actually felt less informed after reading all 4 or 5 pages that I truly understood just how bad it was. So basically for the last few weeks I have been playing around, trying to learn by trial and error, but I do not feel like I am doing myself much of a service by learning this way.
Does anyone know of a third party guide or website that can shed some light on the functionality of the flash?
Thanks

Are you referring to Vistek or some one else? Vistek has had that date on their site for a month or so now, so I am curious if another retailer has corroborated that date.

It looks like there is a few more models to be added to the line... I am curious about how much of a step down the 44 will be from the current 48 at the end of the day (aside from the obvious power)... I will soon have to decide between the 44, the discounted 48 (assuming the 50 drives the price down), or the 50.... Google Translate |

I apologize for my relatively feeble understanding of optics, as I am completely new to this, I was simply repeating what I have been told/read in the past which seemed to make sense... I have seen the 'crop factor' or '35mm equivalency' argued to death where the more informed go to great lengths to explain that a focal length of X is a focal length of X, regardless of the cropping by sensor reading it... so extending that logic to what i have been told/read about a 50mm 'normal' lens on a FF (reproduces perspective that generally looks "natural" to a human observer under normal viewing conditions), plus looking through the viewfinder at varying focal lengths, it seemed to reasonable to me that at ~50mm, what was being seen through the VF, or on the resultant image, shared more similarities (linear perspective or perspective distortion, i dont know) with what is seen by the eye at that spot, even with the 'cropping'.
I suppose I shouldn't venture to far from the beginner's corner with my limited understanding...

That is what I was trying to get at.. a 35mm lens on an APS will give a similar FOV as a 50mm on a FF, however, the perspective will be wider.... likewise, a 50mm on an APS will give a similar perspective as the human eye, but a with a cropped FOV.
I tend to think of 'normal' as exhibiting similar perspective as the eye.. but that may just be me....

Forgive me if this is incorrect, but it is my understanding that "normal" has a mixed meaning...
I believe that ~50mm focal length provides similar characteristics as one's eye would, that is why when you open both eyes, there is not as much of a difference in the perspective as a wide/telephoto lens would cause. It just so happens that the ~50mm length is about the same as the diagonal of the film frame, so that is why the "normal'' can get some what cloudy...
Does 'normal' mean it exhibits similar characteristics as the eye, or does 'normal' mean equals the diagonal of the plane?
yes, the diagonal of a sensor ~35mm, which in keeping with the definition that a "normal lens" is one that the focal length is equal to the diagonal of the receiving medium, than a 35mm lens would be considered "normal" on the APS sensor, but the perspective will be wider than that of the eye...

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I have been unable to find an answer thus far....
I have just started looking around for a relatively inexpensive flash and I have noticed that when looking at third party flashes alot of them are labeled "for Pentax" or "for Canon" or "for Nikon" etc.... seems straight forward enough.. until I started to look on ebay at the cheap Chinese flashes that are labeled "for Canon/Nikon/Pentax" (or something to that effect)
So this got me wondering... is a third party flash "for Canon" or "for Nikon" compatible with a Pentax (or for that matter, would a Canon or Nikon flash be compatible?). If they would work, but with limitations, what would be sacrificed?
