AF-540FGZ zoom stuck at 16mm??

I am having a similar problem with my AF-360-FGZ. When I turn it on, it makes a high pitched humming noise for a few seconds. Then it won't zoom (both auto when the focal length is changed on the camera and when pressing the zoom button).

I tried changing the batteries, but no luck.
