Wow.

You really, really care.

I'm touched.

I'll post some pictures. You win in order for you to lose.

I have a design company in HK, so I'll have my staff blur anyone's heads.

I'm in no rush, but you can be assured the pictures will be here. You might protest that you don't care, but your posts show you care very much.

Perhaps a factory visit is something you would find exciting. I certainly enjoyed it.

Because I've never once posted a personal picture on Pentax forums, I'm not on Flickr or Facebook. I'm not about to start for you.

I will email you pictures of my wife and I there, and also a namecard. The expectation is that you can verify what I say is true, and then you can delete them and apologise for being accusatory. If you don't want to give me a current address, make one up on yahoo or gmail. It will take far less time than your posts to me.

I wont post pictures online of myself, my wife or kind employees who had their pictures taken with me with the rightful expectation that they would not end up being publicly broadcast on a Pentax forum.

Same with the namecard (I only got one). He didn't give it to me to be publicly named. The expectation is for good manners and discretion.

Or you could just buy a ticket to the Philippines, pay the worthwhile premium to stay at abaca, and ask them politely if they can arrange a visit for you.

Don't try and turn this around on me.

You misquoted me and openly questioned my integrity in two posts.

If you were about to apologise, you are then aware that you have been rude to me for no rhyme or reason.

If you want to send me a pm with your email address, I will send you photographs of my visit.

You can then apologise.

Good God.

All it takes is money and good manners.

I don't know how much of each you have, but you can use some and do exactly as I did.

All it required was a request to the resort manager over dinner on Sunday night and an appointment was arranged to visit Pentax on our way to the airport on Tuesday morning.

Also, please have the good manners to read what I wrote. You have misquoted me in both of your posts.

Yes, we met two of the senior executives, and it seemed they were senior (I have worked full-time in Asia for 25 years, I behave politely and interested and actually 99% of the time genuinely enjoy their company). Certainly a higher ratio than in Europe or the US.

They even kindly gave us a gift (in Pentax wrapping paper) and posed for photos (taken by a lovely assistant with a K-30). She also took photos of us in the manufacturing area corridors, but those are for PRIC to chose to do with as they will. I have been on South Korean, Chinese and Spanish TV; none with much warning. Fine by me. Only 3 countries, so I'm certainly not famous! ;-)

I did take some pictures at abaca. There are already plenty online of the resort, but my favourites were when we chartered a boat and went to some islands. Stunning.

Indeed they did. They were very kind and accommodating.

After they found out that I was more of a fan of their company and products than an average passing tourist, two of the senior Japanese managers were informed and they had the generosity to come out and introduce themselves personally.

My wife and I were given a company presentation in the conference room, followed by a brief tour around the plant. Of course we were asked not to photograph anything on the production side.

They have a wall-mounted history of all the cameras manufactured there since the plant opened in the early 90's, including blown-up models of the 645D and K-5 showing every last part. Complex machines!

I only saw yellow K-30s being manufactured, all in a first-rate cleanroom environment. Even if I had seen something else, it would be a betrayal of their kind hospitality in showing us around to post it here.

It was a fascinating and very enjoyable visit.

*I should add I didn't just turn up at their doorstep and expect to be welcomed. I was staying at the sort of boutique resort where nothing is too much trouble (abaca Cebu), and they made all the arrangements the day before.

All good points.

I do wish Ricoh would make a 1" GX-300. I'd replace my wife's RX100 with that in a heartbeat, just for the user interface.

While the RX100 performs spectacularly for its size, it just isn't fun to interact with.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant that PRIC may not need Sigma or Tamron in their business plan. Ricoh cannot have hoped to rely on third party manufacturers to make their new acquisition a success. Ricoh have stated that they plan on competing with Canon and Nikon toe-to-toe. They have already won in the copier segment against Canon, and have more than double the turnover of Nikon. This would indicate that they have a success-based mentality, and the economic ability to fuel that.

I just visited the Pentax body factory, and they are investing in improving the facility further. It all looks positive to me.

My guess is that Pentax/Ricoh (I should say Ricoh/Pentax) don't need Sigmaron in their business plan.

At that price, it is pointless.

Only enthusiasts are going to buy this lens, because they want to go wide and fast.

Solution A: Enthusiast-level APS-C (say US$1K) + this $1.5K to $2K Sigma. Total: $2.5K to $3K for a fast, wide, 2X zoom solution.

Solution B: D600 / D6 at $2K and a standard $500 2.8 zoom. Total $2.5K for a fast, wide, 2.5X to 3X zoom solution.

Sigma will need to price this sensibly if they want to sell many.

Hilarious thread.

Lots of aurguable points made.

Some very good points made.

As Mistral just said, this is a Sigma APSC play.

When a Foveon FF sensor is cost-effective, this lens won't matter to them.

It won't matter to many starting today.

Oh well...

For $1.5K I'd rather have a DA15 and FA31.

Or buy a 2nd hand D5MkII with a Tamron 28-75 and gain a new body in the process.

At 28mm the GR will spank a RX100. Above that (aside from the 35mm crop function on the GR), the GR is out of the game.

Well, Ken Rockwell has chimed in with his thoughts on the GR:

"No viewfinder of any kind (just hold it in front of your face like an iPhone to compose), no aperture or shutter-speed dials. It's like a car without a steering wheel; technical progress to some people means that critical functions be delegated to a menu or button and dial system.

Good luck!

The Fuji X100s is so much better; mine just arrived."

He is demonstrating a real lack of understanding...

Will be interesting to see how they price it.

If it is close to $2K, a prospective buyer could just as well get a FF body and a Tamron 28-75 F2.8.

Under $1K and I think they'll sell very well.

Much as I like my wife's RX100, using it isn't really intuitive or fun (best kept in waiter mode). That's where the GR would trump any Sony competitor.

I love the controls on the GR. That alone would direct me to it before the Nikon A.

I'm looking forward to seeing the B&W output.
