They are amazing trees. Hurricane Irma tore down a bunch of trees there, but the big banyan survived.

Wim Wenders polaroids, and "why [he thinks] photography is now over"

Well said.

First off, the title of the article is a little misleading. Much of it is about his new exhibit. The "photography is dead" idea is a minor part. I disagree with the notion that it's dead. It's simply changed, just as taking Polaroids in the 70s was worlds away from the portraits made decades before that. I bet there were plenty of mid-century photographers who felt the same as Wenders does now--that the art form is on the brink of death.

Things change. Art changes. Thank goodness! I think selfies are obnoxious, but I also see smart phones as a way to put very intuitive technology into the hands of the masses. As with Polaroids, cell phone pics are mostly garbage, but these two technologies are very similar in their promise. (Will there be a similar art exhibit 50 years from now that exalts iPhone snapshots?) This is another step forward, a change that reflects the changes all throughout society. I think the DSLR may someday die, but photography itself will continue to evolve and flourish.

The K20 lives!

My old K20 is hobbling along, but still kicking. After turning down the offer for a $300 aperture fix, I decided to turn it into a dedicated black/white digital machine.

First, thanks to the fine folks over at this thread, I learned I could still use the K20. Perfect! So, I bought a K&F screw mount adapter and popped on the Super-Tak 135/2.5 (with which I am smitten).

I then used the settings as outlined here to turn the body into a b/w expert. Thanks Arjay Bee!

It's been a lot of fun so far. First off, I'm relieved that the camera can be put to use instead of being scrapped. Second, it's kind of cool to shoot in B/W mode. I thought it would be kind of gimmicky, but I have no intention of changing the settings any time soon. The set up with the manual lens has its challenges, but I don't mind. And AV mode is hit/miss, so I set it to manual mostly. It's actually fun to guess at the correct settings instead of relying on a meter. Makes me think about light more.

Here are a few early examples using on-camera flash:

It's been several years since I've shot film. I found a roll of Ilford HP5/400, well past its exp. date, in the bottom of one of my bags, so I figured I'd shoot it. Sent it off to Darkroom (I'd forgotten how pricey development is).

Anyway, I thought I'd share. Minor cropping and contrast work.

Well, based on my recent buying spree, I apparently don't have enough lenses. What am I thinking?

I feel like I'm starting down a road I might regret someday. But, hell, it's fun to research old lenses and find them on eBay.

Thanks, Adam. I used the 12-second timer and manual focus, and a bit of trial and error. :)
