You've made a point, several times, of noting that Ricoh has made a mistake in letting the flagship APS-C shelf sit empty for years. My K-3ii is a wonderful camera, too. But it might be nice to have an equivalent body with image quality and a few other features of the now three-year-old KP. And every time I imagine the shutter sounding a bit off I wonder what I'd replace my camera with if it fails.
Ricoh is engaged in a form of queuing theory. Just how long can customers at the grocery store wait in line before they give up, abandon their carts and leave? The store does this to minimize the number of cashiers they have to pay. Ricoh apparently does this because of a lack of resources to produce more cameras and lenses. But just the same, people will eventually go somewhere else. Hopefully the K-new comes soon, and is really good.

I believe that Pentax users around here are not so unhappy with products delivered, but they surely see too many of missed chances for Pentax to take a stronger initiative. Especially in its own strong segment of the APS-C DSLRs, where Pentax is supposed to be one of the cutest overall APS-C systems.
Instead, it seems they take the role of a "I'm a follower in my own game, no matter what", so it appears they always come too late, when rules of the game and expectations are already set. They always play the third violin, they always dance to someone's else tune, they always attract customers with ridiculously discounted prices of their products because the sound of their third violin is never heard strong enough.
They are repeating the same mistake over and over again, and we are expecting different results? That is really, really, really frustrating with Pentax, and they indeed have no excuses for repeating the same blunder over and over again.
Lack of real will to be even thought leaders of the pack prevents them to come to limelight, of having more loyal and wider fan-base. That is the sole reason they are not more recognised on the market today.
Thus I'm personally starting seriously doubt that Ricoh has any clear idea what they are doing. Instead of pushing hard where Pentax is strong, renew and redefine its offer as fast as possible, it seems they have decided to exercise their paint mixing skills more, thus leaving their strongest market to be redefined once again. They are catching up again.
To be taken more seriously they need not one, but at least TWO totally new Pentax-Ricoh-designed DSLRs announced in the course of several following weeks, to be shipped early in April, when Nikon ships theirs. If they haven't worked serious overtime hours during the last 12 months, if they postpone announcements for whatever "reason", if they wait for September or some later date for a new announcement, they really don't deserve their place in this industry at all.
Having a company merger is not an excuse, and it should not be given. That is not attitude of the best. Having a merger means a call for even quicker action, faster thinking, much harder work.

The only product lines Ricoh lists (in their quarterly report) under "other" is "digital cameras." I'm assuming that means all digital cameras, including those sold under Pentax and Ricoh label.
In that report Ricoh also contends: Quote: Net sales in the Other segment increased by 13.9% as compared to the previous corresponding period, to ¥109.6 billion due to contribution in sales from Pentax Ricoh Imaging Co., Ltd. As a result operating loss in the Other segment amounted to ¥2.3 billion (operating loss was ¥3.0 billion for the previous corresponding period).
That's a bit vague. Ricoh seems to be suggesting that, while the "Other" segment operates at a loss, the aquisition of Pentax is improving matters. How much of that operating loss (~$23 million) is contributed by Pentax specific products is not known.

Thanks. However, it seems like the interviewees just had visited the seminar How to reply to questions without actually answering them
Rule No. 1:
Use a random number generator to answer the posed questions with one of the following sentences:
01 - We can't talk about it right now, please wait until a later date.
02 - Right now I cannot give you any details on it.
03 - Something that we cannot say right now, but we are thinking of addressing this.
04 - I’m sorry, I cannot comment on it until we make an official announcement.
05 - We will sell something in 2013. We cannot say what it will be right now.
06 - We understand that we are getting those opinions.
07 - This will be examined based on each respective concept.
08 - Pentax Ricoh Imaging is reviewing it.
09 - Well, we are considering that right now.
10 - We are thinking of addressing this.
11 - We can say that we are quite positive about it.
12 - We are in the middle of discussions as to how we proceed.
13 - Right now we are considering what to do from now on.
14 - We had that sort of idea.
15 - We have many new ideas which we are considering for the next model.
16 - We wish to eventually fill this gap.
17 - We have plans to put out more exciting products, so please look forward to it.
18 - If demand increases, we will consider it.
19 - The improvement and the addition of other features are vital.
20 - Pentax Ricoh Imaging will want to put out unique and interesting cameras that excite people please look forward to that.
21 - That does not mean that we are giving up.
Rule No. 2:
Intersperse only one vague positive commitment like
"Right now in the development team we are looking to become number one in autofocus."
Rule No. 3:
To make it more vivid, show some signs of emotion like
*smiles*
*laughs*
*slightly nods*
*freezes*

I think it's the same in all Sonys (Nex or Alpha). But Pentax is a bit different, I'd love to try one for myself.
The telescope is a recent model with about three years in the market. There's several brands selling the exact same scope (orion, TS, APM, etc), I have the TS version: Teleskop-Express: TS 80/480mm F/6 Triplet APO - FPL-53 - Kein Farbfehler
A scope like this is a very different animal than a CAT, it has far more contrast, better resolution, much bigger light transmission and also a superb bokeh. And in use it's much easier to focus too.
Mine is a bit modified, I made my own adapter with an iris and nikon chip (now sony), and other mods. Here's an old photo from mine, currently I made some other mods yet, but I have no recent photos from it. http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-c7p46wn/0/O/i-c7p46wn.jpg
There's others scopes at cheaper prices that can also be a good choice, my usual top recomendation is the Skywacther ED80, at a cost of about 350€ you'll get a tack sharp 600mm prime lens. I used one myself for years, opticaly is great, only downside is somewhat inferior mechanics, but definitely worth the cost.

It sounds like Pentax is doing a lot of discussing, planning, thinking, wishing, evaluating, and especially considering.
I hope some "doing" is on the table.
EDITED to add: Thanks, Adam, for doing this. I may be disappointed with the wishy-washy answers, but you deserve a lot of credit for trying to pry some details out of them.

Why CP+ Was So Grim | Sans Mirror ? mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras | Thom Hogan
The above is a mirrorless news website supported by Thom Hogan, a Nikon critic.
I posted it here because i think it provides interesting discussion of the more global view of the entire camera market. Also, it seems to explain, indirectly, what Pentax is doing with mirrorless vs DSLRs. I don't know if members here consider Thom to be objective or not, but i thought his global comments and specific ones regarding some mfr seemed to be fair. Nikon and Sony's numbers were due to be released this week and therefore could not be discussed.
I suggest folks read the entire article, but here are some specific quotes i found interesting:
================================================
As i said, the above are just snippets of the whole article so beware :). I've recently been critical of Pentax for not continuing the K01 model line and developing a more competitive mirrorless model. But looking at Item 3 quote, one could conclude that Pentax is doing the right thing by chasing the FF model, rather than the less lucrative mirrorless alternative that i suggested

Pentax Ricoh lost all right directions....They are lacking in every other product segment excluding colorful P&S cameras as well.
Right direction is
K-02,
645DII,
KF-1 (24*36 mm),
K-3,
GXR A16 lensors, GXR Leica M-FF module,
GRD V, CX7,
new limited lenses,
new XS lenses,
new DA primes lenses like DA50/1.8 and DA35/2.4....
New AF system.
What can we see? Pentax Ricoh is in deep embarrassment now....The interview from CP+ is painful...The Pentax guys looks pale.
The other brands are in greater progress.
No any motions in Ricoh's products (GRD, CX. GXR) at all for last year. Alas.
The progress is in deep sleep in the camp of Pentax Ricoh.
MX-1 and WG-3 are not progress. Q10 too.
Pentax FF will be...But when? Nobody know.
K-01 = they don't know if to continue or not...645D is rather old too. DA limiteds = no any plans. XS lenses = no interests. The bad sign is the stop of Ricoh's cameras...One of the unique niche in the photo world.
I see deep crisis of Pentax Ricoh. The crisis is inside head's of managers, first of all. They can't feel mainstream trends of photo world at all.
The photo market is developing very quick. Pentax can't catch even the tail of fast running other brands...
After Ricoh's purchase Pentax didn't became stronger or more solid than before...
This spring 2013 will answer - I hope...If Ricoh Pentax is competitive brand or not...

So all of this is over the fact that Nikon doesn't offer MLU on their entry level cameras and a few other misc. features? Canon does but it takes too many steps to enable the feature? The K-30 does not have a dedicated MLU but will function with the self timer, just like most (if not all) Canon Rebels. The similarly priced and marketed K-5(II), D7000/D300S, 60D/7D all have this feature. So I don't understand how this makes Canon and Nikon products "so bad"? One obviously disgruntled consumer among millions of happy ones calls an entire product line "junk"... that is a broad generalization.
I just switched from Canon to Pentax because I preferred the K-5 to the 60D/7D. I'm not about to call those Canons junk as that would be a lie. The Canon forum is photography-on-the.net, btw.
Since you are new to this forum, as am I, I was trying to warn you that there are many, many members here that shoot multiple formats. This is something that is not as common in the Canon or Nikon worlds, so you may find it appropriate to choose your words carefully... or not, I don't care.
Maybe this is a culture difference, but I read this as "I'm trolling for an argument; take the bait." I'm kind of regretting the fact I did.

From my part, this is not personal, nor emotional. The emotional part mainly comes from the ones clinging to OVF. Which is perfectly understandable, because people heavily invested in K-mount glass are afraid of that mount becoming obsolete. Afraid of no more new K-mount lenses being marketed.
You yourself and Kunzite repetitively play on the player, instead of the ball, showing your own emotional involvement. (As you display in your reaction above.) And making an open and honest discussion impossible.
I myself am already fully set. I already have all the tools I need that help me do my job properly. It includes cameras from 4 different brands some with OVF, some with EVF. Including a very capable FF camera. I won't even raise an eyebrow if Pentax finally goes belly up. (And yes, the OVF of my 5DII is better then the K5, still much worse then that of the EVF of my NEX.)
This is about how stupid it is for the self proclaimed "inovative" and "non-conforming" Pentax to now dive into FF DSLR. (Almost forced by their "loyal" userbase.) It's a market totally fixed, divided and dominated by Canon and Nikon.
Imagine being bullied by your "fans", to step into the boxing ring, without any experience, and then challenging both Vitali Klitschko and Vladimir Klitschko simultaniously. LOL! That's the only emotion involved from my side: pity.
The old Pentax would have been inovative. Done something different. Avoid the challenge and giant risk of going head to head with the big boys, but omit them instead. Growing while those big boys aren't paying attention. They would have done what Sony is doing right now, only ten times better.
LOL! Of course the poll results in an FF DSLR!
It shows perfectly that the ones that really want or really need FF have already purchased it and moved along. These 188 is the conservative Pentax userbase. Heavily invested in K-mount. Unable to switch because it's to expensive to swap an entire lens lineup. They chose the DSLR option because that doesn't involve K-mount redundancy.
In the very same way this poll shows that people who want an EVF have also already moved on to other brands. In other words, Pentax currenlty doesn't have any EVIL, so doesn't attract any EVIL users, and thus has no members wanting an EVIL FF. Duh...
The poll you set up only has 155 DSLR FF + 33 MILC FF = 188 people in favor of FF. All it proves is that FF is not an interesting market for Pentax to enter.
