Best do all lens imo is the DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited. Very compact and light with good build quality. Great versatility shooting scenes at a distance and being able to shoot up close. Use your feet to zoom.

I have both lenses. The DA 35mm Macro Ltd is the more versatile of the two lenses.

K-5 II vs. K-5 IIs Sharpness Comparison

Seriously, what a dumb conclusion...
There is little reason to buy the K-5II considering the very small price difference compared to the superior sharpness of the K-5IIs.

K-5 II vs K-5 IIs

Perhaps you should stop clinging on to the flawed notion that sharpening K-5 images can somehow come close to the output from the K-5IIs. Many K-5IIs users have already pointed out that there is definitely a noticeable difference in image sharpness but somehow you can't seem to accept it. Why should anyone provide you the images you want... maybe you ought to buy a K-5IIs of your own to realize what K-5IIs are already experiencing firsthand.

Just get the DA 12-24mm f/4.
If you got no money find the discontinued DA 16-45mm f/4.

Is the main symptom of LBA that "I just need one more lens"?

Actually I don't see an issue with buying lenses per se. In fact I have no hesitation to plonk serious money if a gem like a Voigtlander 125mm Apo-Lanthar shows up. The LBA issue is a complex one. Some people need retail therapy or just need to spend money buying something because it temporarily fills a void in their lives at the expense of utility. People in this predicament don't need another lens, they need therapy... And it gets worse when one becomes overly sentimental over our gear and can't bear to get rid of the old or junk lenses that have been replaced with newer gear. Accumulating lenses is easy enough and it is slippery road to wasting money that might be used for other purposes. LBA can lead to one becoming a collector or hoarder of Pentax gear, not a user of Pentax gear. It takes discipline to overcome LBA but it can be done. I have no qualms to dispose or sell any of my Pentax lenses and have junked all the mediocre and cannot make it legacy lenses as well as sold my FA and DA Limiteds before. For me there is no place for sentimentality in photographic gear... if they don't get used enough, they get sold. :D

There is a cure for LBA...
It requires a firm admission that your photography sucks and that new lens will not solve the problem.
Stop daydreaming about what that new lens will do for your photography or trying to make justifications why you need that lens (it was cheap, I need it for that holiday, you can't have too many 50mm lenses, etc.)
Once that hard truth sinks in (if it ever will), you will start to find ways to max out the usage of your existing lenses and your photos will slowly but surely improve. You'll get familiar with the lens and know its ins and outs.
You can only use one lens at a time but having too many can dull creativity because too many choices leaves you double minded.
If not, you're just a lens collector who can't shoot for nuts because all those lenses are lying idle and you don't really know how to get the best from them.

K-5 II vs K-5 IIs

The K-5IIs outsells the K-5II where I am, and for good reason. The image sharpness straight out of the camera is so much better. And as a K-5IIs owner, it's interesting that the moire issue gets blown out of proportion, mostly by non-K5IIs owners. Like other K-5IIs who shoot birds or repeating patterns or people, I haven't found moire or increased sharpness an issue at all. If anything it really reduces my time post processing as I don't have to do image pre-sharpening or much post-sharpening. As for me, there is so much positives with the K-5IIs that I will never revert back to a K-5.

sigma 50mm 1.4, very soft wider then 2.5

If you're shooting with a K-5, make sure you update to the latest firmware. This will go some way to correct any focus errors caused by the camera. I ditched my K-5 because its AF accuracy was dodgy at close focusing distances. Happened with many different lenses. I don't have that problem anymore with my K-5IIs.

Early batches of the Sigma 50mm certainly showed focus errors with Canon and Nikon cameras as experienced by some of my Canikon using friends. They have had to send their lenses to Sigma for re-calibration. As to whether the issue crops up on K-mount is open to question. I tend to feel many of the issues of less than perfect sharpness tends to be with the accuracy of the camera's AF module.

I now have a K-5IIs with a recent copy of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and the combination delivers very, very sharp images even wide open at f/1.4. Central sharpness imo beats the DA*55mm f/1.4 that I had. Simply a terrific lens.

Replacement for my 40mm Ltd

The Sigma 30mm and DA 35mm Macro are excellent allround lenses. Where the Sigma shines is the large maximum aperture which opens up a lot of possibilities with regards to available light shooting. I'd rank the FA 35mm f/2 lower than the DA 35mm Macro in terms of versatility. The ability to shoot subjects up close one moment and a general scene the next makes it invaluable addition for me. I've had the FA 28mm f/2.8 and Sigma 24mm f/2.8 in the past and both were pretty mediocre lenses imo. If you really don't want to spend a lot, the just get the DA 35mm f/2.4, just as good as the FA 35mm f/2 but much, much cheaper. When I got my Sigma 30mm, I thought it might replace my DA 35mm Macro but I've found both lenses complement each other - shooting at f/1.4 and very close focusing.

+1. I've found this to be case too.
Made in Japan need not equate to superior quality. There will always be sample variations and I actually prefer my Made in Vietnam FA77mm over my previous Made in Japan version.

Keep the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. The angle of view is versatile for a wide range of subjects and the large maximum aperture makes it ideal for low light situations. If you need a tele, even the DA 50-200mm WR or DA/DAL 55-300mm are decent tele zooms if you're on a limited budget.

Seriously, who gives a hoot what your opinion or need for a comparison with other cameras, particularly with regards to image sharpening or workflow. Many K-5IIs owners find that they don't need to further sharpen K-5IIs images during post production, which is definitely a big plus time saver and simplifies work flow.

Moire... Perhaps you should comment when you do actually have the K-5IIs. FYI even regular cameras can exhibit moire, which can be easily be managed in post production.

K-5 IIs moire: found!

Why is it that so many who never even own a K-5IIs can suddenly be "experts" on moire with the K-5IIs? I find it ironic that actual K-5IIs owners have reiterated plenty of times that moire doesn't appear as prevalent as commonly believed and for all intents and purposes isn't a problem. But apparently nay sayers and doubting thomases who have yet to even use a K-5IIs will still want to believe what they want to believe and remain close minded to the positives of the K-5IIs.

As a current K-5IIs user who used the K-5 previously, it is painfully clear that the AF has improved a lot. Even the K-30 focuses better than the K-5. I'll never go back to a K-5.

Awesome spirit! If only we have more Pentax users like you who are less tight fisted about parting with their cash for new Pentax gear. This camera will help reduce the number of Pentax shooters looking for a compact, high quality P&S from buying other brands. Unfortunately there might still be a segment who will only buy this when it is close to being discontinued to pick up a bargain.

I will beg to disagree you. There are pros and cons of using incident or reflected light meter readings, to say one is unreliable or not is highly dependent on the situation.

All inbuilt camera meters measure subject reflectance. In an average scene with equal proportion of light and dark tones, whether one uses an incident light or reflected light meter, the exposure value is going to be the same. When the proportion of light or dark tones vary, the camera's meter will suggest an appropriate exposure based on an set standard.

If one merely allows the camera to set exposure in an Auto mode, you will definitely get varying exposure because the camera has no way of knowing whether the subject is correctly exposed or not. IT IS UP TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER TO DETERMINE THIS. That's why all cameras have an exposure compensation (+/-) to allow the photographer to override the camera's suggested exposure. It makes little difference whether one shoots in Manual or any of the Auto exposure modes.
