Tamron 28-75mm XR DI f/2.8 Asking Price

Here's a wide open test shot with it on my K-x. A full resolution version is here. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Pentax FA 50mm f1.7, fairly rare Asking Price
225 Item Location
Arizona Item Description
This is a FA 50mm f1.7 lens. You don't come across the FA version of this lens too often. I preferred it to the FA 1.4 version I owned because it was sharper wide open from 1.7 to 2.0, and about equal from then on.
Includes just the lens and both caps. I don't have a box for this one. There's a little bit of scratching on the caps, but the lens itself is in excellent condition, with clean glass. Focuses spot on with my K-x. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Since it seems we're expanding beyond "off brand".
K-x:
Loud shutter sound.
Crummy resolution on the LCD.
No focus point indicator in viewfinder.
That's it.

I'm interested, but it'll all come down to the lens quality.
I had a G11, which has a slower lens with the same sensor. It's a nice camera and takes good pics, but I made the mistake of taking some side-by-side shots with my K-x. The amount of extra detail my K-x picked up convinced me to put the G11 on Ebay the same day. I was using the Tam 28-75 on my K-x, so to be fair if I were using the kit lens it would have been a closer comparison.
The Samsung has a smaller zoom range and a brighter lens, so if they somehow manage to wring out more detail than Canon did, I might pick one up. A (relatively) small camera with a hotshoe is a nice thing to have handy. I'm also holding out some hope for the Panasonic LX4 that hopefully will be announced shortly.

I got an A 50 f1.7 first, then decided that for me the manual focusing was more trouble than it was worth. But lots of people love it, so it's not a bad idea to get an inexpensive used copy to try out. You won't lose much if you resell it.
After that I got an FA 50 1.4, then an FA 50 1.7. I kept the FA 1.7 because I found it sharper than the 1.4 up until 2.0, and I don't really ever shoot between 1.4-1.7 anyway. Bokeh-wise, they were a little different, but I didn't have a real preference one way or another.

I'm interested in the question too. I got a couple of fancy stroboframe Pro-RL brackets with a bundle of other equipment. I sold one, but kept one in case I might find a use for it. But frankly, I've never even tried it.
It'd be nice to have some comparison photos of flash on camera, bounced on camera, on bracket in different positions, etc. Although I suppose I could get off my lazy butt and do that myself. :D

It doesn't get any better for (relatively) inexpensive people shooting. I sold my DA40 because I thought my 28-75 was just as good wide open. As long as you've got a decent copy, this is just a terrific lens.

There's been a few posters who I think are thorough enough to consider the problem real on some cameras. Then there are others (particularly on DPR) that I think get a couple blurry images in the suspect range and immediately jump in to claim equipment problems.
I can't replicate the issue on mine, tripod or handheld, SR on or off, but I don't doubt some people have an actual problem. Whether it has anything in the world to do with "mirror slap" is pure speculation.

I don't think it's completely hype... only mostly. :p That is, I think the actual detail resolved with Canon's 18mp sensor is only a small amount more than with a good 12mp sensor. Whether that bit more is valuable to you is subjective, as er1kksen pointed out.

I agree, I'd like to see RAW files to judge better. But it seems to me Canon is pretty foolish for putting up official samples that are so flawed!
The DPReview samples look better, although a lot of them are of subjects that are pretty forgiving of high ISO, like all those graffiti shots.

I prefer the ergonomics of Nikon bodies, and I like that they're not really chasing the pixel count as much as Canon. They also have a nicer flash system and wireless flash, which you don't get except in the Canon 7D afaik. But there's no doubt both have great lenses and great cameras.
But yes, there's better places to read about them than on the Pentax forum. :)

You think so? The ISO400 shot (the golf one) on the official samples page doesn't seem nearly as good as a K-x. The golfer isn't sharp and the sky is noisy, even if you downsample to K-x resolution. The ISO200 shots seem soft compared to the K-x as well.
Now, I have no doubt you could take good shots with it, especially with good post processing. But it seems a step backwards from the 500 and 450 to me.

I like the video functions, but the photo samples so far have completely underwhelmed me. It's a step backwards in that regard IMO.

My 18-55, for example, while pretty good at F8, was still not nearly as sharp as my sharpest lenses, which have been the Sigma 70 f2.8 macro and the DA 35 f2.8 macro.

I found the opposite with my Kx and K10D. In the comparison shots I took I preferred the Kx pics even at low ISOs. That was with a nice prime on both, rather than the kit lens. Loved the feel of the K10D, but I sold it after that.

Of course, by giving everyone that nice heads up you've probably kept someone from an ebay bargain. :p
I'd snatch it up myself if I didn't already have an FA50 1.7!

Stroboframe Pro RL flash bracket Asking Price
$45 Shipping Destinations
United States Item Description
Here's a used Stroboframe Pro RL. It's a very nice flash bracket that allows you to adjust the height and tilt of the flash, and lets you quickly move your camera to portrait orientation and back. The paint is chipped off the aluminum here and there, but that just makes you look like a seasoned pro. ;)
This runs $110 at Adorama. Here's a video of some kid using one for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwvgfk1WTdU

I used to have a cheapo monopod that didn't seem much help either.
I recently inherited a Bogen monopod with a big joystick head on it. This thing has enough heft to it that the stability is better. But due to the heft, I rarely want to take it anywhere! I should probably just sell it, but I keep thinking maybe I'll use it more.
