Where do you get your film developed?

Trying my hand at film photography. I have a Spotmatic and just picked up an ME Super. I sent three rolls of Ilford HP5 Plus to The Darkroom about a week or so ago. Just got my first look at the online images yesterday. Photos look good. They did a nice job. Put in an order for 5x7 prints on some of them so I'll see how they look.

I didn't realize Costco developed film. I have one a short distance from my house. I may have to check them out for my next rolls.

Pentax repair by Eric Hendrickson

I acquired a Spotmatic a few years ago along with three Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar lenses. This was when I was building my Tak collection for use with my K10D. Well a couple of months ago I set the camera to Eric because I decided to get into some film photography with it. Once I got it back I took it out a had a blast taking photos with it. (Still need to get them developed). Now I just picked up an ME Super (that still had film in it), took a few photos with it then the mirror locked open on me. Dang! Oh well, more business for Eric!

Pentax re-upping in retail?

Hope you are right. Last time I was in my local Target I didn't see any Pentax cameras. They currently show the K-30 on their website. I would imagine they'll get the new K-50 & K-500 on there at some point but I'll believe that when I see it. They've got to get the Ricoh/Pentax name out there to create some interest and some sales.

I just picked up the Rokinon version of this lens. Paid a bit more for mine a couple of months ago but it was still a bargain. Excellent lens. Manual focus is tricky but I'm working on it.

Pentax I would be more than happy to purchase a few of you lenes but at this point with the pricing the way it is I'll stick with Tamron and consider Rokinon manual focus lenses from now on. I just can't justify spending the kind of money you're company is asking for. Damn shame.

K10D suddenly fails to turn on

Sounds like a dead battery for sure.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your K10D. I wish I could think of what else you could try that hasn't already been suggested. I have a K10D and still use it but I have not had any problems with it battery wise. I have the grip too as well so what to do there has been suggested. I have 3 batteries just to make sure I have plenty of backup.

It is a decent store, lots of good photo gear - tripods, bags, books, magazines, lighting equipement etc. Haven't been in a few years. Bought a battery grip for my K10D there.

Good to hear HCE is carrying Pentax again. I used to pop over there during my lunch break just to check out their used pentax gear and other photo stuff like bags, lens caps for my Takumars, and anything else I could find. I stopped going because they stopped carrying Pentax. I'd like to check hold a few Pentax lenses in my hands so it will be interesting to see what kind of stock they have.

Pentax K-01 Camera Overview

For me I'm going to get a K-5, but this K-01 seems to be one of those cameras that has to grow on you. I've read plenty of negative comments about it and a few positive ones. The main negative for me is the lack of an optical viewfinder. Beyond that it looks like a pretty good camera. Not a retro style like the X-100, X-pro1 or the soon to be released Olympus OM-D. It's something different. We'll just have to wait and see how much appeal it has.

I would recommend the K20D. I have a K10D and I hope to upgrade to a K-5 next year. The K20D is a slight upgrade IMHO from the K10D and well worth it given this situation. The larger LCD screen and the better sensor alone are worth the upgrade. Live view, burst mode and higher ISO settings are others.

Used the TAv mode today - cool!

I've had TAv mode since I got my K10D in 2008. That and Sv mode were one of the reasons I got the camera in the first place. Since it was my first DSLR I figured the extra modes would be something I could grow into using once I understood the basics. As time went on I used the P, Av, a little M (when I got my Takumars) and even the Sv modes but not the TAv. But after reading yours and other posts here I may start using it more. Probably only outdoors as the K10D's maximum ISO is 1600, which is noisy and not too useful indoors. I need a newer Pentax camera! ISO 3200, 6400, 12,800? I know nothing of these...

Do you ever turn SR off?

I almost never turn SR off on my camera except when it's on a tripod. I'm sure there have been times when I forgot to turn it off, but most of those times when it's on a tripod I used the 2 second delay and the remote which turns it off anyway.

Pros Using Pentax

I'm in Katy, TX and the only place I found a K-7 (K-5 was not out yet at the time) was at Fry's on Southwest Fwy. It had power and the kit lens, K-x too. I brought my kit with me and was allowed to put my FA50mm f/1.4 on it and take a few shots. You are right, it handles beautifully. I would imagine the K-5 would be just as superb.
