Before posting this, did you contact their customer service to let them know how the scanner had been shipped, and that you are unhappy with that practice?
There's a major Pentax supplier here in the UK that I've bought numerous items from in the past... camera bodies, lenses and accessories. A few months ago I bought an expensive lens from them, and the retail box had simply been placed in a slightly padded mailing bag and shipped to me like that. When it arrived, the retail box was bashed in on three corners. Thankfully, the lens was absolutely fine due to the internal retail packaging.
I contacted them and explained that I was unhappy with that aspect of their service. They apologised, alerted their shipping department that items like this need to be packed properly, and provided me with a new retail box from Ricoh in case I should ever want to sell the lens in future.
What I'm trying to say is, mightn't it be fairer to raise the issue with Adorama and give them the opportunity to address it? All businesses make mistakes.

Unfortunately a common tale.
There is recourse, but, you had better work out your reasons for pursuing, as the cost may not match the benefit (I say may not - if you are chasing a principle and you have cash to burn then it is a very worthy cause).
In future if you are concerned with the prospect of your images being stolen then perhaps think twice about posting them ...... silly I know as we all want to share, but, that is the ultimate measure of IP control.

There are already cameras that are configurable by smartphones. They are built into the smartphone.

A variable ND filter is actually two polarizing filters stacked. The filter is at its darkest when the polarization axis of the two filters are perpendicular to each other. What you are seeing is an interference pattern. You may also see a splotchy diamond pattern or large polka-dots. There is no good way to avoid it with variable ND filters. Invest in a set of regular ND filters and stack them to get varying densities instead.

for someone just starting out I'd recommend flat grey paper - I know it sounds dull and unexciting but there is a lot you can do with it. You can use colour gels on your flash to change the backdrops colour. If you want different looks get textured backgrounds in neutral colors so you can use colored flash gels to change them to suit as well.
A flat green/blue chromakey background could be useful.
Avoid muslin backdrops, they tend to be made from thin material so removing wrinkles from them is annoying and they look so 90s. If you really must get fabric, get the thickest you can get to reduce the chance of wrinkles and creases when you roll it back up. Also to support heavy fabric backdrops, it should be obvious that you will need a really sturdy background support system.

I think the primary reason is to make things easier for the end user. If both the lens and camera have stabilization, and you use default settings, most of your photos will be blurry since the systems will more or less cancel each other out. Best to avoid that possibility as customers might just blame the lens and send it back as defective, even though it wasn't.

If your getting bad lenses from E-bay.....simply open an "Item Not as Described" and get refunded...... Its not really a Big Deal.

No. But it does transmit the Aperture info and work for A series lenses or newer in that way.
