I saw your post a while back, it didn't really help. I have been a Pentax customer for 12 years owning various Pentax modern as well as legacy glass, I know what I can make it do and what I cannot make it do. Pentax deserved users like you, not me. In the end I chose a system where my incompetence is made up by an equally powerful yet more forgiving camera system.
When I entered the DSLR world, a friend told me to get Pentax and a couple MF focus lenses and start with that because other camera system (Canon/Nikon) would make me lazy. He was right. I learned a lot. But I'm choosing laziness this time, because time is what I lack these days

I'm super happy switching to FF, but sadly I left the Pentax world. I used to mostly do landscape/outdoor pictures and the K-x/K-5 IIS served me great. These days I mostly take pictures of my twins and I needed the low ISO performance and the fast AF and decent AF tracking. Reading the reviews it didn't seem like the K-1 would do much for me in terms of AF tracking. I went with the D750 and Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART and just by looking at the SOOC JPEG I was impressed. Since I rarely have a lot of time to process RAW files these days this has been a good investment.

Hi B&H,
Adorama is currently giving a free DBG4 battery grip with the purchase of K-5 IIs. B&H is giving a 32GB SD card. Would you guys be able to match the offer? I would rather buy from B&H if the offer is matched (I don't need another 32GB SD card).

Selling my two beloved prime lenses. These days I don't have much time for photos and when I do manage some time outdoor, the 16-50mm does it for me
All prices *include* domestic shipping with insurance. Please PM me for international shipping. FA43 Black Limited. It comes with original box, leather pouch, and front/rear caps. Excellent condition, no scratch on the lens surface. One tiny scratch on the hood but you have to look really hard to see it. $530 DA15 Limited. I don't have the box for this since I purchase it from another member here and it did not come with the box. It came with a generic lens pouch and Pentax front/rear caps. Excellent condition, lens surface is in perfect condition. Two tiny scratches on the front cap. If you look close enough in the pictures, you might see it. $480 |

I believe Pentax has fixed the SDM reliability problem, but it has not yet addressed the performance. It's my experience that SDM lenses are slower than some non-SDM. They're quiet, yes, but slow. I sold the 50-135mm since it was too slow for me. I got the FA 77mm and recently acquired the FA 50:1.7. While I have not had a chance to use the FA 77mm much to comment on its AF performance, the FA 50:1.7 is one of the fastest Pentax AF lens I've ever used.

The FA 31mm when shooting wide open will have PF at high contrast areas. If you don't want PF, you should either stop down the lens to about 2.5, or shooting wide open only when the scene does not have such high contrast areas.

No camera is ever FLAWLESS. The K-x that I have now suffered from the batteries issues earlier on but Pentax fixed it very quick with a firmware update. If the K-5 have bugs, Pentax will fix it.

If you strictly want to rent one lens for landscape, I'd recommend two choices:
1) If weight and size is no issue: get the DA 12-24mm
2) Otherwise: get the DA 15mm Ltd
I used to own the DA 12-24mm, an excellent lens for landscape. Now I own the DA 15mm Ltd. I prefer the sharpness of the DA 12-24mm over the DA 15mm, but the 15mm is a lot easier to carry around and thus gets used more.
If you don't think you'll ever go below 21mm or so, the kit lens is actually quite good already, since most of the times you'll likely be shooting at f8 or higher for landscape.

I was also contemplating "upgrading" my K-x to the K-r. But in the end I decided to stay with the K-x, the improvements of the K-r (I'm only looking at the ones that I wished the K-x had done a better job: AF point in VF, better LV focus) didn't justify the extra cost for me.

Yes, the AF360FGZ should be usable with the K-x. The better units would be the AF540FGZ or some other 3rd party flash such as the Metz 48, Metz 58, etc.
