Is K3 AF more accurate than K5II

This was exactly my experience too. Terrible accuracy from the K-3 with seemingly daily changes required in AF adjustment amounts. No such problem with my K-5.

Final thoughts (promise!) about portrait lens.

I recommended a combo of 77 & 60-250 because they have exceptional IQ, are clearly differentiated in speed and purpose, and with very complementary shooting envelops. The 50-135 and 70 are too similar and the 70 is too slow for a prime of that length.

After owning both those lenses, I would buy the FA77 instead and latter get the DA*60-250 if you needed a zoom.

K3 AF Micro Adjustment Problems

My k-3 had the same behavior you describe. Drove me crazy, none of my lenses would focus consistantly. I sent it back to Pentax to fix under warranty but they simply returned it and told me it was "within spec". This is why I'm shooting with a K-5 now, hope you have better luck than me.

Your k-3 dimensions aren't right. It's not a lot bigger or heavier, but it was enough to be noticeable in the hand to me.

K3 or Fuji X-T1 for a better shooting experience for me?

We have similair priorities I think.

I would look at the new Pentax K-S2 which is small and has good AF and obviously fits your existing glass. Otherwise I think the X-T1 is a good choice, but their lenses are at least as big as pentax limiteds and get ready to shell out a lot of money.

The other interesting camera for you would be the Samsung NX500; good video, small body, APSC, and reasonably priced lenses albeit limited options.

You need to figure out, or share with us:
1) what IQ is acceptable to you, m4/3, APSC or FF?
2) how important is weight? Do smaller cameras or mirrorless hold a great appeal due to their size?
3) how important is video?

I think that will help narrow the options.

Is the DFA 150-450mm lens overpriced or unappealing in your opinion?

The Canon 100-400mm V2, and the Nikon 80-400 V2 both have extremely fast AF. Combined with their capable bodies and top notch optics, they made formidable outdoor sports lenses. The question is whether the Pentax combination will match it in Optical AND AF speed. They are certainly asking top dollar. When you pitch your product price-wise against the big boys then you'd better be at least as good.

The problem for the Pentax 150-450 / full frame combination is not only competition from the Canon/Nikon FF's, it's from their own amazingly capable DA*60-250. The 60-250 is astonishingly sharp, it's possibly the best zoom lens ever made by Pentax. I have a K-5c and DA*60-250, so to get an improvement from this combination I would have to go FF and spend over $5,000 AUD (Pentax FF body plus the 150-450), which is not something I'm prepared to do, not this week anyway ;)

The Pentax 55-300 would probably be your best bet, as a kit it is usually not much more expensive over a 50-200 but the quality and reach improvement is worth it for most people.

I like the K-S2 more than a K-3. Lighter weight, WiFi and swivel screen are big advantages.

I'm with Tuco, that fuji has the same strengths and weaknesses as a Pentax, so although it looks nice on the surface it's not a good companion system for pentax shooters. AF and video sucks on both :(

best FF mid-range zoom?

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 HSM and the FA*28-70 2.8 would be the best normal zooms, closely followed by the Tamron 28-75.

None of them are as good as the pro Canon or Nikon normal zooms though. I'd expect Pentax to release a DFA 24-70 f/2.8 in the next 12 to 18 months, expect it to cost $2,000 or so.

I like #4 a lot, it's a photo journalist type image. I disagree with cropping though, that's what makes it interesting compared to #1 and #5 for instance.

I jumped from a K-5 to a K-3. I found the AF of the K-3 drove me crazy; BF, FF, totally inconsistent, it was all over the place. I simply couldn't trust it and it let me down in a few important photo situations. It also was bigger and heavier in the hand than my K-5. Eventually I sold the K-3 and went back to the K-5... happy as a clam now. :D

I owned the DA70 and FA77 at the same time. The DA70 is very good but the FA77 is simply better in every way that matters. Better IQ, sharper, better bokeh, faster, has an aperture ring and is FF compatible.

Both will be internally focusing.

The 70-200 will also be internally zooming, but the 150-450 will protrude during zooming.

Better start doing those arm curls to cope with the new 70-200. The Pentax is 1.76kg without hood or collar, and a full 2kg with both

By comparison:
Canon: 1.49kg
Nikon: 1.54kg
Sony: 1.3kg
