sky- I agree. I started Pentax digital (film for many years back to K 1000 and Spotmatic) with an istDS. Next I moved up to K 10. Then I moved when the K 7 came out. I have noticed incrememtal improvements in AF speed along the way, most noticeably from the K 10 to the K 7. One would expect products to improve and evolve as they mature. But, frankly, I get a bit sick of hearing all the griping about Pentax focus speed, for my needs it has always been quite acceptible. Eds

In my view there is nothing wrong with the Pentax AF200 FG as a starter flash. It is PTT-L and aside from not having as much power as the 360 or 500 series, is super simple to use and get used to. Full retail through Pentax is $150. I have all three flashes, but often find myself using the 200. Eds

axl- I use the Hoodman unit. Good quality, much less expensive than the Pentax units I've seen. For the frequency I need a right angle device, its perfect. Eds

Maj- I believe this is a common issue with any lens filter due to reflections between the filter and the lens glass. Seems more and more I read posts where people discuss using no filters because of these sorts of problems. Eds

I recently bought the Camera Armor online for my K-10. As others have stated if will help against minor bumps and bruises. That's all. It definately changes the ergonimics as the camera gets a bit fatter to hold, which I don't like. Also, it does cover up some of the control labeling and such on the K-10 body, which I find annoying. stash- I use a Lowepro AW 200, which has been superceded by the AW 202. It's a sling bag set up and will easily hold my K-10 or K-7 with grips and the 50-135, plus more gear if needed / desired. The bag retails for $90 US and is of good quality. I also have Billinghams, but you do not need to spend that kind of money to get a very useful bag that I think will fit your needs. Eds

Mine came from Hoodman. Its the second one I've purchased from them as the K-7 version is different from my old istDS version. Anyhow, works great. Find them at: www.hoodmanusa.com Great company to work with too. Eds

I've not tried the 14mm so I can't compare. I do have the 15mm though and love it. As others have said, since its wide I'm usually using it outdoors, so speed is not critical to me. In the non-Pentax arena, I also own the Sigma 10-20, which I also like a lot. It does however render color differently than typical Pentax glass, so that is often a deal breaker for many. Personally I like and use both lenses depending on my exact needs.

Which one I bring depends on how long I'll be traveling and what lenses I'll be using. Its a weight issue, both for the tripod, but the head I bring and the amopunt of capacity I need. I'm settling into my favorite though which is the Benro Travel Angel C-268M8. It only weights 2.8 lbs and supports over 20lbs as I recall. If I'm traveling light and won't be using heavy lenses I use a manfrotto 460 MG head. If I'm bringing bigger heavier glass, I use a Kirk BH-3 which uses an Acra Tech mount. This saves me a little because at that point I also am probably also bringing my Flashpoint Gimbal, which uses the Acra Tech mount. If not using or needing the gimbal, I may bring my National Geo NGEH (made by manfroto but weather sealed) ball head which uses a standard Manfroto mount. Anoth tripod which I have also used with reasonable success is the Slik Pro 340 DX, although its not as steady as the Benro in my opinion. The Benro is the most compact and lightest of all my support gear. Great travel tripod! Eds

roadkill- I have both the 190 Manfrotto and a Benro (Induro) Travel Angel. I think the Benro is more stable than the Manfrotto, and much more compact when traveling. I use the Manfrotto now in studio and the Benro travels with me everywhere. Eds

Joodie- I have that lens in K mount on a istDS Pentax. Good basic lens giving quite acceptable IQ. Good lens for achieving maximum focal length range at an affordable price. I would say $229 is a fair price as long as it is in good condition. Eds

I have the Pentax version. Considering its range, I think it takes great pictures. I keep it on my K-10 most all of the time as a quick and easy back up for my K-7. On travel, if I really need to go light, I'll put it on the K-7 and use my D-Lux 3 as a back up. Great all around lense. Can't imagine that the Tamron version is much different. Eds

I have the Flashpoint Gimbal. I have used it with a very heavy Vivitar 12-600mm lens and it work just fine. I cna't compare it to a Wimberly as I've never used one, but I can say the Flasjpoint does a good job for me. Eds
