Dusted off the K-x and DA35 Limited for an afternoon at my brother-in-law's home in Corrales, NM. Most snaps were of my newborn nephew, but I also managed to walk around the house a bit (inside and out) to point my camera at whatever caught my eye. While I don't doubt the fun-factor of the Q, I do not find the 1/2.3" or 1/1.7" sensor compelling nor the prospect of losing pocketability with a lens attached. That said, I am much more interested in the Sony RX-100 III, upcoming Panasonic LX8, or Ricoh GR as an always-with-me photographic alternative to the iPhone. While I deliberate, however, I know that my K-x and DA35L will deliver great results whenever I call them into duty, and my iPhone will always be with me to capture moments otherwise lost when the aforementioned duo stays home.
Best,
Nate

Thanks, suliabryon.
While the output from my K-x and DA35L combo is undoubtedly superior to that from my iPhone, it is no match with regard to portability and convenience. My iPhone is always with me, produces images that are sufficient for most of my purposes, and I actually find it more enjoyable to use under the majority of shooting situations I encounter due to full-time live view, touch screen operation, and seamless integration with editing tools and social media. For these reasons, I will certainly be going mirrorless with my next purchase. Whatever that camera ends up being, I will be holding on to my 35 Limited for adapted use.
Thank you for the kind words, ozwald.

Thank you, johnyates. My daughter doesn't tolerate the camera being pointed at her, so that one was from the hip and a bit lucky.
Thank you, Alcazar. I'm going to have that one printed and put on our family portrait wall.
Thank you for the kind words, savoche. Shooting at all is difficult enough for me as it is, so whatever tool gets me to actually do so is the tool I will use.
Best,
Nate

A two week family road trip has confirmed that my K-x + DA35 Limited combination still works. All but entirely eschewed in favor of an iPhone over the past two years (and completely untouched over the prior 6 months), I decided to force myself to carry this combination with me as often as I could tolerate on the aforementioned trip. Though used far from exclusively (the iPhone was still my workhorse), carrying the Pentax on the occasions I did led to shots taken and moments captured. A selection of which I have shared below.
Thanks for looking:

Thanks for the return welcome and kind words, Lauren.
Regarding your recommendation of a K-01 or Q as alternatives to phones and full-featured DSLRs, that is the general direction I'm likely headed whenever it is I purchase my next camera. While I have no interest in the K-01, I find the new Q7 a more interesting/intriguing proposition. That said, with the recent deluge of compact large sensor cameras and the likelihood of many more to come, the prospect of an ultra compact full frame ILC is tantalizing. For me, however, it's all about engaging in and enjoying photography - whatever the means to that end.

My last post here was made more than a year ago. It came after a three month layoff from photography, before which I was a frequent shooter and poster on this forum for the better part of 2 1/2 years. The aforementioned terminal post was inspired by a cross country vacation. The change in scenery and disruption of the normal rhythms of everyday life were enough to compel me to dust off my K-x and trusty DA35 Limited for some walk around photography ( https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/180396-travel-vacation-inspiration.html & https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/181307-misc-vacation-over.html ). While this flurry of photographic activity after a pronounced dry season gave reason for hope that I would once again be shooting regularly, it proved nothing more than an oasis.
For the next six months, I couldn't be bothered to pick up my camera. Any camera, for that matter. Where it was once my constant companion for any outing, my K-x was all but forgotten. Left in it's bag. In the corner. Neglected. Just when I feared any passion I once had for photography was gone forever, inspiration came from a most unexpected source - a mobile phone. The iPhone 5, to be exact.
It started slowly, with nothing more than obligatory family snapshots because, well, my phone was always within reach and it happened to have a camera. Over the past six months, however, the simple act of taking photos with different tool has begun to reawaken my previously dormant passion. A realization I came to after my most recent vacation, during which I found myself actually seeking out photographic opportunities with my iPhone rather than acting as a passive and somewhat disinterested observer. While it may not seem like much, it feels like something significant after a year of photographic malaise. In fact, I found myself seeking out my K-x yesterday to capture a moment where I encountered my daughter looking pensively through a window at the rain falling down. This one shot wasn't much, but it was something. I'm hopeful I'll have many more somethings to share going forward.
Now for some photos.
First, the aforementioned snapshot of my daughter from the K-x:

And at the risk of breaching forum etiquette and drawing the ire of its members, a host of iPhone shots to show it can be a viable photographic tool despite its limitations:

It has been a year since I last picked up my Pentax K-x with the brilliant DA35 Limited lens attached, but the recent acquisition of an iPhone 5 has miraculously compelled me to start shooting again. It is still early, but not too early to ironically state that a phone is rekindling my interest in photography. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about these lenses, v5. I especially appreciate your take on the 35 vs. 43, and agree that my style (as evidenced by the photos you've seen here) is probably more compatible with the rendering of the DA Limiteds. That said, I do feel that I tend to play to the strengths of whatever lens is attached to the camera - hence the close focus, detail oriented and colorful shots that I naturally seek out with the 35Ltd. I know it would be much the same with the 15Ltd, consequently I do not have any doubts I would get along well with that lens. That is perhaps why I'm especially intrigued by the 43 & 77, as the unique and characterful rendering would be a refreshing change and challenge for me. One challenge that I wouldn't weclome, perhaps, is the seemingly less than ideal focal lengths these lenses offer on APS-C. Do you struggle with this at all? Also, have you ever tried out the 31Ltd from the FA trio?
Thank you, Jonathan.
Thanks, Mark. Lovely shot of your own here. Terrific mood and atmosphere.
How are you getting on with the 70Ltd? It doesn't seem this lens gets the respect/attention it deserves, as the images I see from it are consistently stunning in the hands of talented artists like yourself.

Vacation is over and, sadly, I've returned home with only a few additional images to share after my initial barrage (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/180396-travel-vacation-inspiration.html ). Relaxing in the AZ sun got the better of me for the bulk of my remaining vacation days, as did sickness on the tail end. That said, here is an admittedly disappointing final installment that I nonetheless feel compelled to share. As always, thanks for looking.
