The Sigma 50-500 is available with several camera mounts. Which is the mount of your lens? In doubt, please post a photo of the mount of the lens itself. Thank you.

KEH (keh.com) provide repairs {https://www.keh.com/shop/repair} and they tend to have good reputations. I have not used them yet, but read some good thing here.
Hope that the comment may help.

Thanks for the warning. This is appalling. With the Japanese Yen being so low, there is little justification for such an increase IMHO.

With the vast majority of zoom lens, the zoom in/zoom out action may change the total lens lens and there is an air gap in between the various parts of the barrel. With AW/WR lenses, the seals will generate a light air flow out to prevent moisture to come inside the lens.
The DA18-250mm (no a weather-sealed) is a well-know example (IMO) of zoom lens with a large change in barrel length with change in focal length. When I use this lens in wet weather, I tend to use a sleeve to protect the lens and a dry cloth to remove any moisture on the barrel.
Hope that the comment may help.

Did you consider option 4: Option 4 FA* 300mm f4.5 with a HD DA 1.4x teleconverter Total cost - ~$1250 AUD
Pros - super sharp - f/4.5 or stopped down once with teleconverter
- compact
- Relatively light weight and easy to carry (bushwalking)
- handheld camera+lens system
- Can take the converter on/off as needed
Cons - Moderately expensive - both items available 2nd hand in excellent conditions
- Two focal lengths - 300 mm + 420 mm.
- heavier then the 55-3 00mm
I use the above combo and I can readily recommend it with my K-3iii and K-3 camera bodies.
When I was looking at a 300mm lens, I consider both the DA*300mm and FA*300mm. The IQ is nearly identical, the AF is very close, but the FA*300mm is more compact ad slightly lighter. Both features are important to me when bushwalking
Hope that the advice will help.

I would suggest the DA*300mm and the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x Teleconverter. This will give you two focal lengths with great IQ: 300 and 420mm, as well as light weight.
I use a similar combo with the FA*300 f4..5 and the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x Teleconverter. The FA300mm is mounted on the camera body by default. And the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x Teleconverter is in the pocket of my jacket. I learned to installed the TC rapidly and smoothly, and it works great.
For me, the superb IQ and the light weight are prime features of this approach when I go bushwalking.
Hope that the comment may help.

Hi, although I am not a plane shooter, I will share my experience with shooting high-speed objects.
I suggest to start with high shutter speed (1/8,000s ), manual focus and Hi continuous shooting. Pre-focus (manually) the lens where you think the plane/object will be. Start shooting 1-2 s before the object reaches the focus area and continue to shoot for at least 1 s afterwards. You will get likely 1-2 good shots for each sequence of Hi continuous shooting, possibly more.
Panning is more difficult IMHO and I would leave others commenting.
Hope that the comment will help.

I am sorry to hear about your problem. I had a few rare issues like that on my K-3. (Maybe 3 times in 5 years.) I had to hard-reset (factory reset) the camera and recharge fully the battery. It solved the problem.
Hope that this may help.

Have you tried another SD card?
If your card is corrupted (and this might happen with any card incl. new cards), you will get an error.
Further, could you list the error message that you get when "the camera can no longer store images on my SD card"? What id happening?
Let us know on both points....

While it may be out of your budget, I can very strongly recommend the D-FA21mm f2.4 Ltd on the K-3iii: The D-FA21mm controls my mind - PentaxForums.com
Nowadays, the D-FA21 mm is almost 50% (or more) of time on the K-3iii and it is an ideal walk-around lens IMHO. The lens is bigger than my FA50mm f1.7 and other lenses, but the balance of the combo K-3iii + D-FA21mm is perfect IMO. Not too heavy, not too light. While I am mostly an outdoor shooter, I use the combo at dusk and even during early evening easily. I believe that it work well indoor also based upon my limited experience. The combination of high ISO on the K-3iii and f2.4 works fine, and I rarely needs to use some noise reduction software afterwards.
I hope that the advice may assist.

I am sorry to hear about your trouble.
I read many times, here at PF, that SD cards should best be formatted in the camera. This is what I always do.
I note that the Pentax K-3iii states very clearly (p. 125): "Use the card after formatting it with this camera". (The italic highlight is mine.) I add that the user manual of my K-3 and K-7 cameras has exactly the same warning, with the K-7 user manual repeating the same warning in 4 different places.
I use also SD cards with other camera brands with similar instructions.
All in all, I think that it is best to format/re-format a SD card in the camera that will be used.
Hope that the comment may help.

I continue to use my K-7 as a secondary body. With a good prime lens, the K-7 can do excellent photo at low ISO and Iove the colour rendering. Off course I prefer to shoot with my K-3iii but the K-7 is a solid second body IMHO.
My 5 cents...

+1
Remove the battery and dry your camera, with the lens removed and the battery door opened. Placing it next to a dehumidifier in action may help if you do not have a dry cabinet.
In the mean time, dry your battery and recharge it fully, checking that it is not faulty.
Hope that these tips may help.

Digital Camera Utility (formerly called Pentax Digital Camera Utility PDCU) can convert JPEG files into B&W in Laboratory / Custom Image / Monochome.
DCU comes free with any Pentax camera. Alternately, it can be downloaded from Pentax website and easily installed (use a memory stick named S-SW140 if asked for a CD).
My 5 cents...

Tough call IMHO.
Based upon the lenses that I have and used, and on a K-3iii body, I would rank:
1- D-FA21mm f2.4
2- FA 77mm f1.8
With the K-7, the FA31 mm Ltd and DA15mm Ltd are two other great lenses IMHO.
My 5 cents...

To add to the discussion, in complement to already excellent earlier contributions.
I do not have the Sigma 50-500mm not Pentax DA*300, by choice. I selected to buy the FA*300mm f4.5 and I later added the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter. The FA*300mm f4.5 is an excellent lens, and importantly (for me) smaller and lighter than the DA*300mm f4. When I need a longer reach, I add the 1/4x rear converter ... and I am very happy with the results. Altogether, the FA*300mm f4.5 and1.4x converter are small and easily handheld. They might not have the IQ of the Pentax 150-450mm (my dream, one day, LBA), but the combo works for me.
My 5 cents hoping that it will help.

The DA50mm f1.8 is called a 'plastic fantastic'. A plastic lens with outstanding IQ. With the K-70, the DA50mm f1.8 will do great IMHO.

If price is not an issue, two outstanding oldies are:
Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 SL
Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 180mm f/4 SL
Both are MF lenses. The VL125mm is the "best" macro lens that I ever used and it is fast. Astonishing IMHO. The only downside is its bulk and weight. The VL180mm is small IMHO and really sharp. While both lenses are supposed to be macros, they can deliver great outdoor/landscape shots.
My 5 cents...

Thanks Richard
These transient flows are fascinating and very hard to document. I found that the selection of the "right" lens is most critical and the Tammy surprised me.
PS: I was in fact born in France ---------- Post added 11-09-23 at 07:41 AM ----------
Thanks K-Three for the suggestion.
I am not using electronic flash because I need to know relatively precisely the exposure time and the shutter speed selection tends to give me a better accuracy on the exposure time (that a flash).
I would add that, for many application, a large aperture enable some to control a slice of flow that I want to document, especially when there are complicated three-dimensional flow features and I want to single out one feature,

A very, very long time ago, more than 12 years ago, I bought (new) a Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1. And I used it so little since. I was disappointed.... I felt that the lens was not fast enough compared to my Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4, I was not really used to the 90 mm focal length, nor into the macro photography. The lens has been sitting in my cupboard almost since 2010. I acknowledge that I bought, one year after the Tamron, the best macro lens on the market, the infamous Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 SL. LBA, LBA, LBA... and I have no regret.
The Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 SL is a superb macro lens and I was able to get splendid shots, that were even published in leading international scientific publications. For example: Redirecting Figs. 5A, 5B & 5C, 6A & 6B, 7A DigitalCommons@USU - International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures: Air Bubble Entrainment in Breaking Bores: Physical and Numerical CFD Modelling Figs. 4B & 4C
And I re-discovered the Tamron 90mm very very recently. I needed a macro lens, with focal lens about 80-90mm (125 mm was too long), fast because of low light and I needed to shoot at shutter speed about 1/2,000 s to 1/5,000 s. And the Tamron delivered IMHO. Whaoo... I am not often impressed, but I was this time. A great macro lens....
I love this re-discovery. IMHO, the Tamron 90 mm is the 'quiet achiever', not a 'stellar glory boy/girl' like the Voigtlander 125 mm. And I love my Tammy. Hope that the story may interest some....
NB: The attached is a transient water flow from left to right. Look carefully in the middle section of the section. Shutter speed: 1/5,000 s. In the middle, vertically, we see some fast transient interfacial instabilities (hard seen by eye) followed by interface fragmentation .

IMHO, these latest shots are still out of focus. PS: I use a FA*300mm f4.5 and I have previously shot the moon with much better results.
Do you use Liveview, or the OVF, or manual focus?
I note that your shutter speed is probably too fast.
Do you have a tripod and can you take long exposure (e.g 1 s) with the camera on the tripod? -PS: Remove SR if you use a tripod.
Hope that the comments may help.
