Electronic level display.

I'm pretty sure that you have no choice but to have the level display on the back monitor when activated. You could always change the button configuration to have something else trigger it instead of the info button. I personally have the Raw/Fx button set to display the level when needed.

The blown out sky is the sun directly in front of me setting over the mountains. As I said "Not the best but certainly not the worst I've seen."
I'm not a fan of full blown HDR images and this is just something I was playing around with.

This was late last September which is in the slow tourist season so it was just a matter of waiting a while before everyone cleared out.

I was messing around with some photos the other day and thought I'd stack a few shots together to see what they would look like with the full HDR treatment.
Not the best but certainly not the worst I've seen.

I am looking to replace my dead K5 body with another one. I am willing to trade to trade my Sigma EX DG 105mm f2.8 and Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5.
Both lens are super clean and free of dust and mold. I honestly barely use these lenses and need to replace the K5 body.

PM me if you are interested or need more info on the lenses.

K5 focusing electronics failure???

Finally heard back this morning from the repair company. It's a short circuit on the main circuit board. They said they would have to replace the whole circuit board and that it would cost 500 bucks. I told him no thanks since the body is not worth that much. Needless to say I'm on the look out for a new to me K5 body.

It's definitely something internal be it electronics or hardware. I'll just have to wait to see what the big guys say.

K5 focusing electronics failure???

I just sent my K5 into Pentax Canada to see what they think the issue may be. What has been happening is that upon start up the camera is frozen in f8/125 and stays locked there. After about 5-10 minutes it used to unfreeze and I had full control of the camera. Lately it has stayed stuck and would not come out of f8. I tried every possible button configuration possible and they only thing that worked a couple times is if I changed it from 11 points to 5 which would free up the controls. That stopped working unfortunately. I also noticed that if I changed the dial on the back to selective focus I wasn't able to change the focal point I wanted to use. Also if I tried live view the screen was black and all the data on the bottom of the screen would be flashing like mad. I am curious if anyone else has heard of or had these same issues. I am really curious to see what Pentax has to say the issue is.

I sent my 150-400mm in for repair a few years ago because I was notching a bit of ratcheting in the focusing dial. They changed the whole complete focus motor cleaned the lens and returned it in record time all for free. They told me they don't see these lenses very often and that they used the last motor available and won't be able to repair it if need be in the future. It's worked like a charm since and I cannot say enough about the service they offer.

Recently made the trip to Banff/Calgary to finally scratch "Shoot the Rockies" off my bucket list. I have a pile of photos to sort through but this is one of the first I wanted to process. This was the view from our hotel room one fine morning.

I'm kind of surprised that there is no Canadian reference on there or am I missing something? As far as I can tell there are at least 3 British references and a couple US but no Canada.

Your always better off just going directly to the manufacturer in cases like this. I would just shoot them an email explaining what happened and they'll probably send you one for free. Can't hurt to try.

This phenomenon is called “Hoar Frost”. It occurs when the moisture in the air freezes. It doesn’t happen often and even less to the extent in your pictures. I luckily have seen it a hand full of times and a couple times with the crazy spikes like these. It’s truly amazing to see everything covered in this layer of frost. Good job

I've shot if -40C with both my K20 and K5 without any adverse effects. I actually had frost on the back of the body from my breathe and not a thing happened to the camera.
These suckers are tough.

I agree with Mike on the purple hue, otherwise this is a fantastic shot. After a little PP you should submit this to the exclusive gallery.

Seriuosly, save yourself the headaches and buy a new body. The time and trouble to change the sensor on an almost 10 year old camera is not worth it when you can buy used k5's for around $300.

This is my philosophy as well. Everyone on my friends knows I'm a photographer and ask me all the time to do some family portraits for them or "Can you shoot my wedding". The answer is always no. Then I explain it too them like this, I shoot landscape/wildlife not people. It's like asking a plumber to fix your car.
