K7 is the Amazon Goldbox deal today ... $899 body only or $999 with kit.

I think it is probably the best deal you will find right now for body only, thought that may depend on how much of the 20% sales tax will eat up. I was originally planning on just getting the body, but I was leaning towards white and the kit lens when I bought ended up costing about $20 more. Doubt I will use it much, but nice to have and since it matches may help future eventual resale value.

I got a white one. I spent last night playing a little but my poorly lit apartment with weird lighting is probably not the greatest place to take my first shots. ;)

FYI everyone ... at least for right now, Bing cashback is 20% at Walmart.

So how to we get the KX moving?

I find it interesting that stores like Walmart (and to a lesser extent Best Buy) carry Pentax SLR products on their websites, but not in their stores. That screams "niche" brand more than anything to me. As others have said, though, it is the "feel" of the camera that sold me. Funny how branding is a double-edged sword as when I see someone shooting a Rebel, I assume that they probably have no idea how to use their camera other than as a "big" point-and-shoot. ;)

Amazon ended its previous, very generous price-matching policy this year. Officially, once you buy it and it is shipped to you, that is the price you pay. If you pre-order or the price drops before the item ships/you are charged, then you are eligible for the lower price.

The old rule was that within a 30 day window, you were eligible for the lowest price they offered the prodcut on their website.

This change means that some CSRs will still provide a price match, while others will vehemently deny it's possible. I've even had Amazon CSR's advise me to buy-return as they couldn't pricematch. Just FYI.

It is instant if the seller uses eBay's own payment system. I'm not really sure if you can see this before you actually click "Buy it now." prodigital does not, so there's a 60 day wait until you can transfer the money from Bing to your Paypal account.

I would have gone the Walmart route except for the higher pricing than eBay and then having to pay sales tax.

You should be fine as long as you a) used buy it now and b) paid immediately with PayPal. It took 20-30 minutes to show up in my account as "pending" which is its status is at Bing until the 60-day wait is up.

The "bump" in cashback ends 12/2. I would guess it would go back to 8% though of course don't know for sure.

It has been 8% for a while so decent odds that it still will be in the future.

Evidently cashback is only instant IF the seller uses eBay's checkout. The lowest price on k-x kits right now, prodigital2000, does NOT, which means you still have to pay with PayPal but there is a 60-day turnaround time from purchase to cashback being available. Just FYI.

If you go to the "Gold Rush" promotion, it is listed as 10%. When you actually go to eBay, it has 10% there as well.

The 10% Ebay cashback is already active. It is usually 8% as of late.

Thanks for your reply Peter. I figured that it has been enough time that there would be hardware benefits with an upgrade. Now I'm also looking at refurbed k200d or k10d from Best Buy as an intermediate solution.

Hi everyone. Forum newb here with standard "in my situation" questions. :D

I'm currently shooting a Pentax *ist DS, which I've used since 2005. I generally take most of my pictures on vacation (cruises mostly). Here is a gallery with some of my trip pics Link.

As for lenses, I'm not in the "great glass" price range yet, unfortunately. I generally carry around a Sigma 24-135 f2.8-4.5 and a Sigma DG 70-300 f4-5.6.

I do shoot a lot in automatic, but sometimes change settings depending on what I want from the shot. I generally only shoot RAW and do post-processing on my computer.

The K7 is out of my price range. I had looked at the K20 earlier in the year, but prices have really shot up on that. Now I'm looking at the K-x. What I like in the upgrade is the better sensor, the image stabilization, and the ability to shoot video (not sure how practical that will be, but I'm enticed by it). I know it is an entry-level camera, but I know I'm not a pro-shooter.

I'm taking my "once in a lifetime" trip here in a few weeks to Australia and New Zealand. I'm guessing a lot of shots will be outdoors, though I will be on a cruise, so there will also be some interiors. I'm also planning on keeping an online video journal for my mom because she cannot make the trip (wouldn't plan on using the K-x for primary source of video).

Though it is last minute and I hesitate taking new and little-self-tested equipment on what I consider to be an important shoot, is an upgrade really going to help me that much based on my current equipment and needs? I know I know ... take the money and buy better glass. ;)

The nice thing about the eBay Bing cashback is that it is instant to your PayPal acount (or at least it has been for my other purchases this week). Note that to qualify, it has to be a "Buy it Now" sale and you have to pay with PayPal.

I've been going back and forth over this all week ... do I really need a K-x and do I want to buy from Ebay (not finding a better deal at the moment).
