Would this work fine with a K-x body? Would any features fall off?

SpecialK,
Thank you for the critique. I've gone back and made some edits per your recommendations. I cropped and nudged the third shot to give it more of the 2:1 feel you mentioned and worked on the shadows and highlights on the first.
Let me know your thoughts.
Cheers,
Phillip

There are a ton of great architectural type shots to be had. The City Centre area has a ton of great things to shoot as well.
Here are a handful from my trip in February: |

With a small amount of patience it isn't that difficult to install. If you have large hands and fingers it may be a challenge, but the place I ordered mine from included finger cots (to keep oily fingers from fouling the screen) and a pair of tweezers to aid in the process. The install took a total of less than 10 minutes and if you're experienced with it I imagine you could do it in much, much less.
Here's one of my favorite recent shots that I got with the M/50 1.7:
I surprised her from the backseat and I really think the focusing screen helped me to find the right focus.

I definitely agree with Marc's last suggestion. I recently picked up a Nikon variant K3 split prism focusing screen for my K-x and it's made a world of difference. My focusing is faster and more accurate as a result.
I too have the M 1.7 and having the new screen has kept it on my camera more and more.
I picked mine up from focusingscreen.com

I have the Sigma 17-70 myself. It's been a great lens so far and I'm quite happy with the image quality. If I had to be critical of it, I'd say the only glaring thing is just that it's a variable aperture throughout the focal range. I'd like it to be fixed so I could have a 70mm 2.8, but for the price I guess that's a bit too much to ask.
I will say that the large filter element size is a bit intimidating if you're shooting portraits. It isn't exactly a discrete looking lens.

Thank you guys for the comments! The one of Y.E. Yang at the very end is a bit over-exposed, but I had some trouble with the glare from the surface of the putting green.
I have to agree with both of you though on the favorite. The first shot was actually the very first shot I took as soon as I arrived in the morning. The water was super calm and the haze and mist made for an amazing shot. I'm thrilled with how well the reflection came out.
Thank you again!

Hello all,
I had the chance to take my gear out to the Shell Houston Open this year. I'm a golfer in my free time so this was a lot of fun. I'm proud of some of the shots I got and I even managed to get the winner of the Shell and the guy who won the next week at the Masters. Please enjoy! |

I just picked one up in the marketplace for a great price and have been quite pleased with the results. I haven't used it too much but I like what I'm seeing so far. It's a bit intimidating because of the humongous filter size when compared to the K-x body, but it gives the camera a real pro look that is actually somewhat pleasing.

I just picked up an old version for a great price and I'm pleased that you've said that. I'm happy with the old version and I can't imagine too much else they could do to it.

I can't comment too much from personal experience as I have only taken a handful of shots with the kit lens, but from what I've read around the forum Pentax's kit lenses are among the best kits that the major manufacturers produce. Canon and Nikon both have similar in specs kit lenses, but the perception is that Pentax's image quality is a touch better.
You'll be more than happy with the results from the kit. Naturally, upgrading to a different walk-around or looking into primes will give you some better IQ. You can't go wrong with any one of the DA Limiteds for the APS-C sensor in the K-x.
The first lens I purchased was the DA 21mm and it is the primary lens on my camera.
Don't overlook the M and A series lenses as well. They're manual focus, but for the price points many of them are top-notch values.

I just got back from a trip to Vegas and had a few interesting conversations with cab drivers...
This one guy told me about how he is bound to turn things in to the company he drives for, but if they go unclaimed for 60 days he gets to do whatever he wants with them. I can't imagine that is a rule only for their cab company, so you may want to try to track down who he drives for.
Sadly, you're at the mercy of the cabby now, but it would be worth a shot at least. You never know if the guy you rode with is a saint or scum. Worth a shot...

LOL
So funny it's cruel... I'd be horrified if I left 1400+ in the back of a cab!

Some of my shots from a recent trip to Las Vegas. I'm in love with the plane shots, but I'm upset we banked away from the strip because I was stuck with what you see.
These were all handheld. I contemplated taking a tri-pod for some of the shots of the buildings (Bellagio, etc.), but I didn't want to pack it.
Please let me know what you think! |

Not sure if another person vouching for the 21 will make a difference, but I've had nothing but great luck working with it. I kinda bought it on a whim when I first got my K-x because I was looking for a high quality wide prime, but now I'm really glad that I did.
If you'd like to see a series of shots I took with it at the Houston Auto Show last weekend, I've got a ton of them on my website at photo phill
Each of the photos in that series was taken with the 21mm.

Same to you! I just saw the post with your shots from the show. I really like the perspective the 15 gave on the Nissan GT-R. It's really neat to see the same vehicle through a different lens.
I saw several with nice cameras, but I think you're right about us being the only two using Pentax. Cheers to that!
If you'd like to check out some others from the day, I've posted them on my blog at phillipbeltz.com
The low light was an interesting challenge and I'm thrilled to have gained that experience.

Hey guys. I wanted to share a couple of shots I capture at the Houston Auto Show the other day. I've got tons more, but these were my favorites.
All with the DA 21mm: |
