Taken today with k-5 + 43mm - cropped to 10 megapixels and developed in Aperture, but otherwise unaltered.

Douglas DC-3 at the Historic Flight foundation in Everret, WA. This aircraft flew "The Hump" during WWII and then was a corporate aircraft for Johnson & Johnson in the post-war years. They've restored it to flying condition and it's quite something to see!

The 55-300 is a really nice lens, and actually fairly fast for a variable aperture consumer zoom. You should be able to pick up the DA-L version for ~$200, and then you'd have it for whenever you need it... just throwing that out there.

I'm going to throw out a curveball and recommend the Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 - they pop up on the marketplace fairly often, and tend to go for about $200. If you're ok with the increased focal length, it's an amazing lens, makes magical pics especially for portraits/candids. I've shot with a 43mm limited, and honestly like the F50 better. (just my subjective opinion before people jump all over me :)
