What I wrote above is FALSE! The latest firmware did not take away the shutter speed control. Because the new firmware added apperture control, the method described by the OP will only work if in the menu\video setting you switch apperture control from "fixed" to "auto". Then the lock will stay on when you switch from user mode to video mode. You'll be able to lock-in the needed aperture, shutter speed and iso values.

For those of you that can't make the OP method to work, its probably because you have firmware 1.11. Before I upgraded my firmware I could change the shutter speed usung the method described by op. I have videos of rain and snow, where with slow shutter droplets form blured traces, and with fast shutter rain looks like individual blincking droplets of water. So it definately worked before. Now we got aperture control in latest firmware, but other controls are gone...unfortunately. And something tells me Pentax did this on purpose. If we kept our find quiet, it would probably be still there. I guess Pentax just want's to keep these features for future models. This got me very mad at Pentax.

Is there reallly no way to use digital filters in K-7 video mode? Is it realistic to hope for it in a firmware update? Even the K-r allows you to use them...

I was shooting k-7 video with a rode stereo mic attached, and then the camera froze. The live screen was still on and "rec" sign was still blinking but the time stopped, and the camera did not react to any of the buttons or the on/off switch. After waiting for about 5 minutes I pulled the battery out as I had no other choice. Now the camera turns on, but the back screen is blinking very rapidly and you can see text and numbers overlapping. Is there anything that can be done? Have I messed up the camera for good?
Appreciate any help.

I get it with SR and Stabilization off, that's exactly what bothers me. I'm hesitant to send it off for a check up because I bought the camera in US, while on visit, and my country does not offer warranty repair. It would be a long wait to ship it off and costly too. So I would really appreciate if someone who has a similar problem and decides to send his camera for a check up writes his results here.

Hello,
While in video mode and pointing at bright objects in low light the video shows severe waves which look like interference you see when filming TV screens. Is it normal? I have k-7 for about a month and have not noticed this before. Also this effect is present when using negative exposure compensation. Another problem is with shooting video in b&W with an infrared filter selected; the tones of different objects in the video just go crazy changing from black to white spontaneously even with exposure lock.
Here is a sample of the wave problem: You Tube |

Also, my firmware is up to date...

I have the noise even without SR. My k-7 also makes a strange noise when it's turned on- there is a click noise (electronic not mechanical) followed by a strange "skid" sort of noise. Maybe it's normal but I never had any noises on my previous pentax dslrs when turned on or off.

Sorry, I'm relatively new to this. Is there any way at all to controll exposure in k-7 video mode or is it 100% automatic. It's very annoying when you shoot indoors and pan over a window and the camera adjusts the exposure by itself in the middle of shooting....Is there a way to lock the exposure?
Thanks

Can I ask some k-7 user to put his ear to his camera (while in life view mode) and tell me wether there is a noise or no noise at all.
Thanks in advance

The noise that i get sounds like the sensor is processing data or something while in live view mode (your ear needs to be relatively close to camera to hear it well)....I just need another k-7 user to confirm that its similar in his. i#m more bothered by the "clicks" i get when using zoom in video.

While the camera is in live view mode or video is being shot there is a continuous(non stop), sort of hissing noise which of course is picked up by camera's mic. Do all of you get this noise in live view or video on k-7? Also, in video mode, when changing aperture or using zoom on the lens I have annoying clicking sounds. That makes impossible to use the zoom in video mode if camera's internal mic is used. Are all of these sounds normal for the k-7, or is my camera faulty?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
I've recently bought k-7 and the original battery grip (D-BG4) for it, which doesn’t seem to work. I'm attaching it to the camera correctly. The battery is fully charged and is in the grip (no battery in camera). The camera works, that means it uses the battery in the grip, but the grip itself shows no signs of life. The on/off/shutter release button does not work (the camera can not be turned on or fired with it), the rest of buttons do not work either. Am I missing something here and doing something wrong, or the grip is broken?
Thanks to all in advance.

Diaphragm ring is a must if you're shooting film with the camera. And eventually Pentax will release a ff body with full HD, there is not a doubt in my mind. FA Limiteds are fine, but there's only three. They need to add a few more focal lengths to make the lineup usable for shooting. Otherwise, the video in cameras is not worth bothering for.

Yes. They also need to remove that focusing ring and the zoom ring as well. Those point and shoot cameras are far ahead in their innovative practical thinking.

The limiteds are too few. I hope I will never get to keep a DA lens for longer than 5 days . What if someone gives one to me and I won't be able to sell it?
Also, I sure hope Pentax will cut that plastic business out in the next few years. Otherwise I would advise this forum to offers a better selection of sickened expressions, I feel very limited by that green face.
And one more thing, adding aperture ring to all lenses just for the sake of LX users is enough of a practical reason for me. The brand name still stands on this camera.

Are the FA series dead? Will Pentax ever release lenses with aperture rings again?

Hello,
I was wondering if 31mm is wide enough and offers enough freedom for landscape photography. Never had a lens in the 30mm range...For that reason I was considerenig zeiss distagon 25 2.8, but it got some pretty mediocre reviews on sites such as photozone.
Thanks in advance

Yes, but without the lens the coupler returns back normally. Besides, when it stops moving the lens lever is not pressing on it anymore> it moves higher, and the coupler is supposed to follow it being pressed back by a spring.
