Anybody else been seduced??

Ok I'll admit it, I was seduced by FF. I recently purchased a lovely LX and was reminded how wonderful a FF viewfinder is so I coughed up for a D700 and a 24-120 f4. There is no doubt that the D700 is a beautifully made camera (as is the lens) but so are my two K5s (and Pentax lenses). Yes it has a very large, very bright viewfinder and you can read the viewfinder info in bright light but it weighs a ton and the shutter sound reminds me of the toy "cap" guns I had as a child. Yes its focussing system is way, way better than Pentax but its user interface is not, for me, as fluid. Yes its image quality is very good indeed but it doesn't have Pentax colours and I prefer Pentax metering. I suspect that it will find its way back on to eBay before too long.

What I want is an LX-D! Imagine a FF camera the size of a K20 and being able to slide off an autofocus viewfinder and slide on a proper manual focus viewfinder when the situation requires it. Imagine the joy of using all those lovely legacy lenses with a digital camera having a really decent manual focus viewfinder........... Its OK I'm awake now!

Dust underneath K-5 LCD screen!!!

My dusty camera is being collected on Monday by City-link for inspection and dismemberment by Pentax UK. Kudos to Mark at Clifton Cameras for arranging. I would prefer a replacement but, of course, it's a Limited Edition and I don't think replacements are available.

The LCD glass appears to be a sandwich construction and some dust is under the outer layer of glass and some is under the inner layer. I think static electricity could be the culprit and suspect that dust is getting in around the edge of the glass as it is being cleaned. I use regularly washed Pentax optical cleaning cloths to wipe LCDs and I'm pretty sure that when I tried to wipe off what I thought was specks of surface dust, more appeared inside. I think it unlikely that zoom lenses are to blame. My other older K-5 has had a wide variety of zooms bolted on and its LCD is pristine. Incidentaly, there are no signs of dust inside the top LCD, only the rear screen. What I cannot understand is how Pentax has managed to introduce a fault into a camera that is reaching the end of its production run and should have all its wrinkles ironed out by now! Hopefully new owners, Ricoh, will kick the appropriate butts and sort out quality control.

Dust underneath K-5 LCD screen!!!

I have a black K-5 which is about 6 months old, had regular use with a variety of lenses including a bigma (which must be a real mothersucker!) and has zero dust behind the LCD. I also have a Silver K-5 which is a month old, been used with an 18-135, 43 Limited and 77 Limited, supposedly has a bombproof glass cover yet has a large amount of dust mainly to the left hand side of the LCD. Peculiarly it seems to be in two layers - just under the surface of the glass and a couple of millimetres deeper. I have never seen this on any other camera, and I have had plenty. Yet again an indication of poor Pentax quality control.
