Huge thanks to everyone who responded to this request! I think we're all set with cameras for now. Our youth center now has 7 cameras either here already or on their way thanks to this fantastic Pentax community. You guys rock, and our youth center is very grateful.

Our local youth center has been hosting some photography workshops for the last few years. We've always used budget P&S cameras in the past, but we're looking to take it to the next level and introduce DSLRs for our next session (please see this post about providing equipment we direly need if you can help).
We'd love some ideas about what kinds of simple photography exercises or examples you'd recommend for kids to get a better grasp on basic photography concepts. These kids range in age from 8 to 18, in groups of similar age. Please share these ideas here!

Hello fellow Pentax enthusiasts!
Our local youth center hosts a regular photography workshop. Our old Nikon P&S cameras are mostly worn out at this point, with many of them being broken or having dead, proprietary batteries. We were hoping to replace them with a few affordable DSLRs and take our workshops to the next level.
I know many of you probably have an old K-x or K-r with 18-55mm kit lens laying around in a drawer somewhere, and we figure those would be perfect for our needs. They can be automatic or manual enough for any level, can run on AA batteries, and take fantastic photos. I used to have a K-x for many years.
However our funds are very limited. KEH only has one such camera in stock, and eBay has a bunch, but they quickly get expensive. We're hoping to pay $100 or less for each functional camera body with kit lens.
If you can contribute to this project, please PM me as soon as possible. Our next workshop starts October 4th, and it would be really great to have a few cameras on hand for our participants.
Thank you so much in advance!

Does this mean the K-1 II still has USB2? Or will the new mainboard upgrade that to USB3? I can't imagine how they'd replace the USB2 connector... As someone who shoots mostly on a tripod and tethered to a laptop these days, my main complaint is the slow USB2 transfer speed. It's painful at times, especially with full size RAW files. This is my main bottleneck at live events where things need to move fast. I was really hoping to see USB3 get added.
The other new features are extremely welcome and I'm sure I'll make good use of them, although I was also hoping for an ISO 80 or 50 (or 25!) to make it easier to light my portable studio with strobes in midday sun without having to resort to a neutral density filter.

I've got my 2001 Audi A4 quattro wagon (now TDI/6-speed manual). It's a B5.5, not a B6 like European 2001 A4's.
I've also got a 2005 VW Passat TDI that I pulled the engine from for my car. It's sitting engine-less in my driveway now, not sure what I'll do with it. It's in excellent shape.
I bought a 1999 Audi A6 quattro wagon, which was intended as a beater car while I transplanted the TDI in my A4. It's still in my driveway, runs like a top. Paid a pittance for it. I keep it for the cargo space.
My wife has a 2012 Beetle. This is very much a North American car, not European at all. Built in Mexico, and has a 2.5L straight 5. It's missing a lot of the nice touches that European Beetles have. But it's a blast to drive, extremely economical, and has a REGULAR 6-speed automatic transmission (no DSG, thank jeebus)
There's a LOT of VAG cars that we don't get here that I really wish were available. They've more or less abandoned the whole wagon format here. The only wagon available from Audi is the A4 allroad, with NO powertrain options (2.0T/tiptronic). No A4 Avant, no A6 Avant, not even any A3 hatchback anymore. Not to mention no more TDI options whatsoever... there's a stop-sale on ALL of those, whether 4-cylinder or V6.
Even VW doesn't do much for wagons. No Variants of any kind, just a Golf sportwagen with no powertrain options.
We get no love from VAG over here :(
Fixed!

Nice looking car! I was always a GM guy before, and I'm still a huge Pontiac fanatic to this day. But VAG car have grown more and more on me over the years, to the point where we only have VW/Audi cars in the driveway right now.
But if I could find a drivable '78 Trans Am with a Pontiac 400 and Borg-Warner Super-T10 manual trans at a reasonable price, it would come crash the party immediately :D ---------- Post added 06-19-16 at 07:53 PM ----------
I LOVE a good Trans Am!!! And that one is sexy as hell. Especially love the gold cross-lace wheels, that brings back memories... I spent a lot of time trying to find replicas of those wheels to put on my 2001 Audi A4, but I never found adequate ones at a reasonable price. Ended up settling for custom-made Porsche Fuchs reproductions instead: IMAG0197 by GoremanX, on Flickr

I just found something new. With custom setting 13 set to default (Interval), the minimum interval that can be set is 2 seconds. But if I change that custom setting to 2 (Standby Interval), there's a new choice before 2 seconds called "minimum" which just takes the next exposure immediately as soon as the camera is ready. This eliminates the chances of missed frames due to de-synchronized timing over a long session, and allows me to use the camera's built-in compositing options, which a wired remote doesn't allow.

Yeah I have a wired remote that can be locked on, I just forgot it at home. That would've been ideal.

Nope, dark frame noise removal was off. But all JPG enhancements were on (shooting RAW+) and I was writing to both memory cards (JPG to one and RAW to the other). I wonder if that was slowing things down enough for the camera to miss a shot every few frames.

Oohh, I like that better. With the old setting, a lot of shots were only happening at a minute instead of 32 seconds. It was really unreliable. Wish I'd known about that before, my shooting time is over for the evening now.

THANK YOU! I forgot all about that. Haven't done interval shooting in years with a Pentax.

I'm out here at night in the middle of nowhere and I can't get interval shooting to work right on my K-1.
In Manual mode, if I set the shutter speed to 30s and set the interval shooting to 120 shots, the most I get is 10 or so before "Interval Shooting Complete" shows up on the screen and the camera stops taking photos. I do seem to get the full series of photos if I choose 1s as the shutter speed. I haven't had a chance to try other shutter speeds yet.
The same happens in Interval Composite mode.
Anyone else notice this behavior? It's totally ruining this perfect night for star trails.

I didn't say no-one does. I was specifically referring to the person who's lamenting not having one yet and yet is sporting the banner.
And no, pre-orders do not count as "paying for it" because they don't get billed to the card until the product ships.

I placed my pre-order on the Pentax web site before it was possible to do so on B&H or Adorama or anywhere else. I bet I somehow end up getting mine after everyone else.

I have a 2001 Audi A4 Avant quattro. It used to be a 1.8T with 5-speed manual, but I swapped in a TDI and 6-speed manual over the last winter. Has a full custom sound system with 2 amps, electronic crossover and electronic EQ.
What I love about it:
- small and maneuverable in parking lots
- tons of cargo space
- fits me perfectly
- fantastic mileage (can you say 50+ mpg?)
- fast as a bat out of hell (220 hp, 450+ ft-lb of torque)
- unbelievable traction in every condition
- grips the road like glue
- it's bright blue and fun to look at
- everything on it still works after all these years (280,000 miles so far)
- custom audio system sounds fantastic
- when the sound system is off, the car is very quiet inside
What I don't like about it:
- could use more leg room in the back seat
- driver's seat leather is torn at the seams
- can't pull a trailer
- cupholders are a joke
Old photo (pre-TDI swap)
During the swap:
Currently swapping out a fender that was rusted out, then I'll take a more current photo.
