Thanks Sterretje
Having read the comments on amazon it appears that it is the flash which makes me feel better. Obviously a manufacturing fault but as I have had it three years and hads worked fine and until last week I cannot send it back - cost of return not worth it.

K5 problems with hot-shoe mounted flash

I have a different hot shoe problem.

My K5, with my Rokinon D900AFZ-PK, strobes when I attach the flash and it comes up to speed.
On the occasions that it does flash it is either highly over exposed or slightly under exposed.
No problem with the pop up flash.

Anyone know where I should start?

I have just checked my K5 and it has v 1.01.
Do I need to load all of the updates in order or can I just go to v 1.15?

Sigma EF 500 Super

Sorry, if this should be in another area. I have tried to find an answer elsewhere.
I have been offered a Sigma EF500 Super for Pentax. I cannot find reference to this flash but have found the Sigma EF 500 DG Super.
Are these the same flash but marketed with different names for different countries?
The seller has no idea if it is P-TTL, for my K5

I have been gifted this lens with a Pentax mount without the hood.
While it has a F8 the mount has appetures shown (see the attached).
Turning the appeture ring does alter the shutter speed when set on the 'M' setting. I cannot work out how it is doing this. Any ideas?
Unfortunately there is some 'mould' in the rear element so I will need to get it cleaned because it is not very crisp at the moment.
Apologies if thisis in the wrong area, I am new.

Welcome Plornt.

I have yet to work out how it works. Some are Pextanians, some are loyal supporters and so on....

I also have a K10D. I have a Sigma 28-200 but am not finding it very crisp. Could be me!

Arpe - should it not be go the Phoenix. Its is summer - is it not?

Wandering around Wellington NZ

Thanks for the photos and comments about Nz's.
As a Wellingtonian I was interested in the colour of the sky.
How did you get it so blue?
If only it looked good this summer - 2 or 3 days of sun since 24 December 2009. The joke is that we are having a mild winter!

cheers
Graeme

Thanks Dan.

We certainly have had some rain. The current Wellington joke is that we are having a mild winter! At least it was fine on Saturday 9th for my daughters wedding. I was not impressed with any of my photography at the dance. It almost seems as though the K10 was slightly out on its focus point. Mind you it could have been the Sigma 28-200 lens with flash but more likely me!

I will try for some weather shots. I have yet to learn how to upload photos.

Thanks for the responses.

I resisted Canon and Nikon because I had some good Pentax mount lens. I have never owned a Canon or a Nikon although it would have made sense as my son and son in law have, between them, a great lens collection. I would not have needed to buy lens!

The Admiral 400mm I know little about. A client who owns a camera shop looked at my existing 400mm lens, which had some fungus, and threw it in the bin and gave me the admiral. It is a T2 mount with preset appeture. It is OK but I have not been able to find out anything about it from the net.

I have, for software, the Pentax software plus Elements 6. I am also going to use the Canon software for jpegs as it appears to be better than what both Pentax and Elements offer. My son is using the latest Adobe Lightroom (beta version) and this looks impressive.

I must go the Brisbane one day Dan. Ive been to Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. Only Adelaide, Hobart and Brisbane to go.

Hi all.

I am new, having bought my first DSLR after many years of film followed by a point and shoot digital camera.
I have a Pentax K10d (bought second hand) with a Topcor 28mm f2.8, a Pentax SMC M 50mm f1.7, a Pentax DAL 18mm-55mm (kit lens), a Sigma DL 28mm-200mm f3.5-5.6 and an Admiral 400mm f5.9

I am looking for a Pentax 100-300mm or similar. The Admiral is average at best and the 200mm is just a touch short.

I decided to bite the bullet and get a DSLR after my son bought a Canon 20D and my son in law a Canon 450D.

I was tempted(very briefly) to buy a Canon but the pull (back) to Pentax was too strong.
