Yes it is soft in the edges open. Still love it!
But I attached a picture showing some difference to other lenses ;)
Then you have it also with you for the orange picture

I agree that at super close distances you have to focus. But then you still have focus confirmation.
At 2m distance this seems rather easy to me already.
Looking at the distance markings of the A20 and Voigländer 20mm you see that 2m distance you have quite a FOV already.
With focus assist it is hard to miss the focus there to me.
...and honestly. At this distance I really do not see to many occasions I would go for F2.8. Honestly lower than F8 in general. If there is somewhat enough light, this is not the use of (ultra) wide angle for me. |

the FA20 is super expensive recently (if available) on Ebay.
For wide angle in my opinion autofocus is not necessary really.
On shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=889257&u=523490&m=66875&urllink=keh.com they have the &afftrack="A" version of it available if you are interested. Pentax 20mm F/2.8 SMC A K Mount Manual Focus Lens {67} | KEH Camera
Nearly bought it myself, but ended up with a Voigtländer instead.

50mm are available in huge amounts in the end.
Look at prices of FA 20mm, A20mm or similar :)
There the market is much leaner and prices jumped more.

In a German forum you can track old prices.
The price of full frame lenses significantly increased while high quality APS-C lenses slightly dropped in price.

Nothing comes over a DA15Ltd on crop
when you really used it - you love it
The only crop lens, I am hesitating to sell now that I have the K-1
Pixel peeping aside. It has great color rendering, it is compact (so you will have it with you) and (the non HD version) makes wonderful stars.

The Voigtländer 20mm are not available for Pentax anymore. Some forum members including myself found a source that have them still on stock for now. However, in the meantime the price increased... PM me if interested :)
Anyhow, the Irix is available for other mounts just now and hopefully in the next month for Pentax.
It comes in a "affordable" option and a metalic version that might proove to be a nice touch.
I just wanted to make the point that for wide angle manual lenses, including the Irix, Laowa (to manual for me, as aperture is not "A"), A-20..., could be a nice option.
The Samyang looks good, just not that good of a built for me and also quite huge.
The Irix is on my wish list after a normal prime (replacing my F50 1.7 I am so so happy). Ultra wide angle primes are rather limited for Pentax and I do not like zooms too much.
(The F50 1.7 is razor sharp, I do not like the bokeh too much and it is like a hot girl - can be a bit moody some times)

The first picture is FF.
You have to close it down quite a bit to get the corners sharp.
But a lens must have character

Went out with my still new K-1 at night.
Still getting used to the new character of my old FA31 Limited being a real wide angle lens now.
Additionally I could first time really see my Voigländer Skopar 20mm in its dedicated field of use.
I am happy :) Cologne by Night by Chris, on Flickr Cologne by Night by Chris, on Flickr

Hi,
did not read all the posts... anyhow :)
To me the last post makes also clear why Pentax might focus in the near future on "in-house" primes.
The zooms "24-70" and "70-200" are the most popular lenses. There is the biggest competition.
Who uses Pentax:
1. Fanboys aka. "Pentax is just generally the best"
2. It is as good as the competition for less bucks
3. Pentax has those nice great primes
(I am most likely 3. with a bit of 1. ;) )
Anyhow, most Pentax users will be in group 2.
They will go also for a cheaper lens.
Why should Pentax concentrate on this market segment, if there are good alternatives. Rebranding makes sense.
According roadmap they plan to have some primes next year. Hopefully even compact "limiteds". There I see they can separate themselves from all the competitors.
Lets see what happens. If the sales pick up @Sigma I think we will see more lenses again.
The Sigma mount is just a rotated K-mount. With KAF4 the rest is just some electronic contacts.
I am optimistic for seeing Sigma lenses soon again on the horizon :)
Cheers
Chris

So, got my new Voigtländer 20mm Skopar and had the chance to be in the mountains.
Still have to get used to the K-1 after years with the K-5.
With full frame all your lenses are like new - they change field of use :)

Expecting my Voigländer Skopar 20mm on Friday ;)
As I shot 95% of my Da15ltd pictures at F8-13 this should fulfill all criteria for me.
Unfortunately all recent lenses of Pentax follow the industry trend (and pixel peepers) for bulky lenses.

Plastic Fantastic
Cosina/Vivitar/... 20mm 3.5-4.5 Cosina 19-35mm AF f3.5-4.5 Lens Reviews - Cosina Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
I am to much used to my DA15Ltd and awaiting my Skopar 20mm. But it won't be (and neither my beloved DA15 is) perfectly sharp in the corners (wide open) and more than $200 :)
If size would not matter I would look at the Cosina or clone of it.
Pictures I've seen look nice considering the money invested.

Yes :)
Sometimes I even forget things that make Pentax somewhat special. Recently I was asked mutliple times if I have Bridge/Mirrorless camera because my camera (with limiteds) would look so small and you could not hear any shutter noise ;)
But stuff like that is not in ads. There should be a 4s campaign
Pentax - smaller, sturdy, silent ... just special!

15? I am not sure how many people are still going to buy either a D300s, D90, D5000, D3100 or D3000 (if they are available at all).
Soon the D5100 & D7000 must be added to the list.
This would be like counting for Pentax the K20D (D90), K5 (D7000), K5IIs (D7000), Kx (D3000), Kr (D5100)...
Yes Nikon has a slighly bigger portfolio in point of cameras, but partly only because they are marketing some old models for a longer time.
What they really have more is a "entry level" camera with the D3200 and 3 fullframe models (D600, D800 & D4).
As I "personally" see it:
D3200 - missing
D5200 - K30
D7100 - K5II(s) and most likely soon K3 with APS-C
D600 - missing
D800 - to be filled with K1 :)
D4 - 645D
With lenses it is another story ;)

The DA560mm is not a ricoh development. Yet NO lens or camera has been presented, where the development has been startet with Ricoh managment.
First hardware under Ricoh will be there in spring. Maybe this will tell us more ;)
As long the DA560 has not been tested on Film, I would say chances are high it works in FF, despite Pentax saying differently.
Many DAs work on film and especially the long tele lenses.
