4/3 is as much of a waste of money for true photographers as GPS is. Versatile cameras wouldn't use a 4/3 format. More expensive lenses will need to be made to increase their resolution and wide angle photography would be virtually impossible.

bad news for pro pentaxians ... but something has to change... maybe this is the thing... or maybe its evil... or maybe its a FF. The most likely of all IMO is another 1.5 crop APSC.

i keep forgetting that most people just want a small camera to throw around, customize, and identify with. a m4/3 will probably be the new amateur standard.

This is so correct. I have been preaching this ever since i bought into Pentax. They have several incomplete visions in the DSLR line. I feel if they just had a little more follow through, we would see a great market for their cameras. I am expecting to see some great lenses later this year though

That actually is a big fail on Pentax's end. They need to fully implement their uniqueness and make the most of it from all angles. Even if it means selling out to target with a red camera.

My impression of Pentax was always the opposite with stellar bodies, and good image quality. Sure Nikon and Cannon beat them out in some areas of IQ, but Pentax delivers in more areas than any NIkon or Cannon body. What attracted me to the brand was that Pentax is built tough... i should buy a ford to go with my camera haha

I can see this happening, but I feel like professionals will always prefer a DSLR as size is not an issue. Mirrorless cameras may become too gimmicky until the technology is solidified. Outdoor photography may be revolutionized, especially for adventurers who need a small body and strong image quality.

Image Stabilization and Focal Length

think of it like holding a big stick that extends outward for as long as your subject.

Jerky movements when the subject is close to you are quick and small in comparison to the jerky movements seen while at 300mm, which are slower and larger. You need to compensate a little more to keep the image still when at 300mm because the smallest movements at the origin are magnified the longer the stick becomes.

the inverse rule works great, but its just a rule of thumb. Shake isn't really affected by your subject moving, just the point of origin, which is why i think in camera stabilization is a little better.

You don't always need a fast shutter speed with kids. If you want to be creative, try following your kids/subject with your camera at a slower shutter speed. You will have a clear subject, and an interesting result to the background.

“Nikon’s imaging business has been expanding quite steadily over the past 10 years. But can it enjoy the same stable growth for the next 10 years? The answer is no. Growth for existing digital camera products will inevitably slow and they are set to move into a phase of saturation. I intend to keep dialogue open for everyone to decide what we should do to achieve further growth despite this trend.”

UPDATE 1-Nikon taps head of camera operations as president | Reuters

What can this mean for Pentax? I feel Pentax has a very niche market, so unlike Nikon, Pentax expansion can possibly flourish. It just has to make sure that it stands apart from the pack. What are your takes?

wow thanks for the detailed reply rico. i think you really clarified what was on my mind. i typically prize old lenses on their durability, which is my key characteristic for a stellar lens. I will stick with old prime lenses from now own =P

comcsat made us wait a week until they would come out and look at our internet.. the stupid thing is that the problem was easily fixable, there was a bad splitter where the cable runs into the house I am ready to make the switch as well, there are many cable outages during peak hours

airport security is kind of a joke, i work in one and probably see more gaps in security than i should.
beside the point.

i don't believe they take kindly to photos IN the airport, but if you are outside the fenced perimeter and not near any buildings, I doubt anyone would stop you. I don't believe they patrol the perimeter.

Good places to start though would be private/smaller landing strips and airfields. There might be less red tape in terms of picture taking.

makes sense

older pentaxians will be loyal to the brand due to pentax's long triumphant history! many of the younger individuals will be influenced by the brand image of canikon land. pentax just isnt cool anymore!

i am 22 and love the brand =)

Lens Resolution and the K-7

sorry i deleted the original post, but if you read the new one, i was interested in buying vintage lenses. With small sensors i know you need higher resolution. i was curious as to what this "cut off" is for a good resolution by general consensus. and how modern lenses compare to those meant for film.

Lens Resolution and the K-7

Ok so I am interested in vintage lenses, and was looking at the Vivitar Series 1 line up (Versions made by Komine w/ A setting). These resolutions and contrasts hover between 50 and 60 lpm.

What are the resolution values of modern Pentax lenses for APS-C and full format lenses? And what lens resolution is optimum for my K-7's 1.5 crop sensor with 14mp? I hastily bought a 70-210 f4.5 Kiron lens without thinking about how crappy it might look on my crop sensor (it is still in the mail).

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Pentax returns to shops

no there are ritz stores that are still open =P They have closed many locations. Most recent closures have been because the stores don't "fit with their brand image". The revamped their business model to include everything digital and film image related. This includes photo processing, HD tvs, video cameras, DSLR, Digital Print stations... ect.

personally, i think they are a dinosaur that just needs to kick the bucket.

ritz hasn't had them for awhile, doubt they will. privatized shops with the backing of a chain can risk buying a small inventory outside the canikon bubble. i talk to the ritz people every couple of weeks, they never know anything. i dont even think they understood what happened when their business reached bankruptcy last year. unfortunately pentax's exposure has been suffering because it took so long for ritz camera to get with the program.
