Taking from the Metz site:
"Servo mode (light controlled):
With the mecablitz 28 CS-2 digital, you have a pure slave flash unit at your disposal that only flashes when you want it to – with any camera. This is made possible by its learning function, which recognizes the pre-flash of your camera and only responds to its main flash."
The new firmware added this option to the 48/50/58 flash guns.
In other words - a flash in servo mode will be triggered by other (any) flash main fire.

OK, in order to enable the "servo" mode on the Metz 58 AF-1 one should do the following (it;s more strate forward then on the 48 AF-1):
1. Update to firmware 3.0
2. Press the 'sel' button
3. Use the 'arrow' button to choose 'Remote'
4. Use the 'arrow' button to choose 'Servo'
5. Once selected, you may see a screen like this
6. Press the 'para' button in order to tuggle between setting the flash power and the flash zoom
7. Once completed - you are ready to go

I just update my Metz 58 AF-1 flash with the latest firmware, but I have no clue of how to enable the "servo"mode...
I saw the "how to" thread about the Metz 48 AF-1, but it doesn't help :(
Help any one? :confused:

The firmware is up to date (as I mentioned at the first post).
For now there is no problem with the card, since I format it, but, as I said before, I'll buy a new one (they are so cheap), and save the old one as a backup.

Fortunately the picture that froze the camera was not one of a life time…
I've format the card, took some pictures with it, and so far there is no problem with it. In any case I'll buy another card, just in case, and will use the old one as a backup.
One note though – after reading the ETTR tutorial, and some threads about using the AF button instead of the shutter button I started to use the AF button, so after I got the issue with the stuck photo, I switched to the kit lens, and as I was worry about the camera failure I forgot to use the AF button, and get more worry why the hell the camera stop focusing… it took some photos and some heart beating until I realize that I should use the AF button…

Hi All,
Today I have some strange issue with my K20D, which I don't know if it's related to the camera or to the SDHC card.
I've bought me a new (old) SMC Pentax-A 35-70 (very nice piece of glass), so I spend some time with it at the last few days.
Today I took some pictures with it (indoor using the Metz 58), and at some point, after taking a picture of my daughter, I switch to the playback mode, so the last picture I took was shown, and then the camera just froze! I've tried to go to other photo, press the shutter button, tried to cancel the playback mode – nada, nothing works, even the dials seams to do nothing.
I switched the camera off, and I saw that the photo stay on the screen for about 2 second and then the LCD turn off (maybe there was some energy left, so no problem).
I took the battery out, wait a minute or two, switch the camera on, go to playback mode and again - the camera get stuck! So switching it off again, then on, taking some more pictures and go to the playback mode again – all was good, but when I paged through the photos, once I get to the picture that arise the issue – the camera froze again!
So again off-on the camera, going to playback mode (and see the last good picture), use the dial to enter to the multi-image display mode, select the 'bad' picture, delete it, and from then on I have no such issue.
The only action I didn't take was to take the card out and see if there is still the same problem.
The card is SanDisk SDHC class 2 4GB, the camera have the latest firmware.
Did any of you have the same problem? Is it a camera issue or, more likely, a crad issue?

Hi,
How many of you have an insurance for your camera?
Personally I have such an insurance (part of my house insurance), so if the camera lost, stolen or just broke :eek: - I can claim for the costs.
The insurance is not expensive (about 70$ per year).

I second it.
My friend have a K-x camera, first he bought a set of GP 2700 mAh, and also upgrade the firmware but have the same issues.
Then he ordered Eneloops, and since then he's happy.
So, get Eneloops, make sure that you upgrade to the latest firmware, and if you can - buy an external flash (good to save batteries and to have more power and flash options).

The hat I have is of Columbia Sportswear combines with a back neck flap and an extended brim, so I didn't turned it (next time I'll rolled up the neck flap!).
Anyway, yesterday I was on a trip (without the hat :p), and all works like charm (I use the flash a lot as a fill flash).
Maybe PENTAX (and others) should add a notice about this issue regarding flash problems inside the manual guide...:lol:

I asked the same question, and this is the answer I've got from Pentax service:
"
I have spoken to the service manger.
Before going near any water, please make certain that all openings are sealed, including the hot shoe (make certain the hot shoe cover is in place). Use only very slow running water, or, preferably use a wet towel more safety. Make sure the body and the lens are completely dry before you separate them, or change battery or flash card etc.

Don't be affraid from non-autofocus lenses, I have an old A 50mm F1.7 lens, and I manage to get greate photos with it.
The lens is fast, and for portrate pictures it's a greate one.
You can search for second hand F 85mm F2.8 Soft lens, which I heard is very good for portrates.
F 50mm F1.7 (and F 50mm F1.4) are also good samples, just need to search and get lucky to find them ;)

The camera is under warrenty until Dec-2011 (I have enouhh time :cool:)
I don't think that the camera get overhitted, I didn't take a lot of pictures.
Some more detailes about the stalactite cave we were:
The cave temperature is about 22-23 degrees celsius and the humidity is above 90% all the time (monitored).
The lights are very dim (e.g. ISO 640 F4.0 @0.5 sec).
When we got out of the cave I use the flash with no problems.
I guess that the cave conditions cause the camera to work the way it works :hmm:
Another question - in such conditions, an external flash (like Pentax or Metz) should work better?

Hi All,
here is my problem:
I have K20d, and until now have no problem using the built in flash.
last week I was at a stalactiteד cave, were the light are dim.
I pop up the flash (I set the camera to Av), and the flash works fine.
After a few shots, I've notices that the flash stop firing, so I wait a few seconds (the battery was fresh and charged), but the flash didn't fire (and t should), the only thing that help was to turn the cam off and on (and after a few shots it happened again).
Any thoughts?

Something looks odd to me at the picture you've attached - did you get 18-55 AL lens with this kit?! I've got the 18-55 AL II lens (which is newer)!
I think that the new k-x will have the second version of the lens...
Strange, no?:confused:

Yes, you can get a 'M' lens (could be of PENTAX or any other brand), but as you said - then you go all manual. I have both 50mm A f1.7 f2 and found it more easy to control when setting the lens on the 'A' possition (I've also had 50mm M f2, but I'm not a full manual guy, so sold it...:o).

Hi All,
After searching this forum and the web, I finally gor an answer fro PENTAX service, regarding the trigger voltage issue:
"It is possible to use a trigger voltage up to 380V. However, the flash may not fire due to noise or reverse polarity.
Please be aware that high voltage can damage your camera. If you are using a non pentax flash, you might want to consider a Wein safe cell (safe sync hotshoe voltage regulator) to avoid damaging the camera.

I guess that it is safe to use any old flash, but (as mentioned by PENTAX service) - it is better to be at the safe side of the road and use a voltage regulator, or better - PENTAX flash unit...
BTW, I'm not sure I understand the part of the flash may not fire due to noise or reverse polarity :confused:
Any thoughts?

Hi All,
I read about this lens at the lens review section, and I notice that there are three different models for it:
Sigma 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 I Macro
Sigma 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 II Macro and
Sigma 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 M Macro
I guess that the 'M' stands for mini (and maybe it's also the first generation), but as I read, the first one had a plastic mount, and less (?) then 8 blades, and the second one had a metal mount and 8 blades.
The 'M' one has both metal mount and 8 blades (I've bought one just today).
What are the differences between those lenses? Is there an optical improvment or other improvments between those three (or two) lenses :confused:?
